Team

Wilks, Hurst, Banya, Ijaha, Acheampong, Audel, Kiernan, Mendy, Mills, Jebb, L'Ghoul

Subs: Goldberg, McCallum, Ambroisine, Pinney, Quebe

I'm not sure but I think James Hurst played for Wrexham last season?

Yes he was a Wrexham player until March, ex premier league with West Brom.

Didn't think this was ever going to be pleasing on the eye.
The two footed challenge on our defender in the final moments summed them up.
Chelmsford are a physical side and today we stood up to them well.
The complete opposite to the same fixture last year.
Had a couple of chances, our number 8 will be wondering how he never got on the scoresheet.
A few good crosses whipped into the six yard box, but no one on the end.
All things considered, a draw was probably a fair result.

That L'Ghoul bloke reminds me of Nanetti.

Some very strange decisions by the ref today. From where I was sitting it looked like a clear cut penalty for us closely followed by a clear cut penalty for Chelmsford.

A good result that could have been even better had we taken one of our chances. King did the right thing in switching to a 4-5-1 to cope with Chelmsfords direct football.

Chelmsford are a dirty team and I think lacked the quality going forward that they have had in previous season. I think theyll struggle to make the playoffs.

A good point away with more unfamiliar players. This is one area where King does well.

Chelmsford never been an enjoyable opposition

Go on their forum thread of the game, look at localfans  comments on page 7 and see what they say about you.

Pot kettle and black on their part.

The top comment on page 7 is hilarious! I dunno where he gets could of been 6 up from, must of been watching a YouTube video of the fixture last season. Yes our players may of crowded the ref but we have been a soft touch for to many seasons now, other teams have done it for years and now we are in a position to do the same.

All I learnt from Saturday was that when one niggly snide team are confronted with one that can do it back, it is seriously bloody tedious for the paying punter. On this occasion we didn't lose because we were able to return like for like. However, I'd not be paying £15 a game for the regular potential to watch that. Thankfully we haven't needed to be like that in the other games I have seen.

Not a game for the purists but more than happy to grind out a point in a game like that.

You always know that Stringer is going to put out a big physical no nonsense team and you are going to be bombarded with free kicks and long throws. Whatever people may think about that, the formula has proved very successful at this level for a number of years and Chelmsford will once again be a play off team come the end of April. You have to stand up an be counted and fight fire with fire where necessary. Cast your minds back to December last year where we rolled over and died in the corresponding fixture - there is no doubt in my mind that any Welling team from the last three or four seasons would have crumbled at some point in that game.

The back four, both individually and collectively, played well. Wilks did well when called upon and well done to the new lad Hurst who presumably has only had the odd training session with the players before Saturday, Banya was once again excellent and it will be a tough call when CBB is back in the fold. The two centre halves played well and Audel was the best player on the pitch for me on Saturday. I can understand why we tweaked the formation as it was always going to be a battle and that pitch is hardly conducive to trying to play football. It often comes down to set pieces and maybe the one disappointing aspect was that we didn't take advantage, particularly in the first half. of the quality balls that Jebb put in. Kiernan looked a threat as did L'Ghoul at times and he did the move the ball on and not overplay which he has been guilty off at times. Mills continues to work hard and occupy the centre halves although he didn't get much change out of the Chelmsford back four on Saturday.Considering we have a few injuries it is nice to see that we have put a good squad together who are adaptable and able to play different formations as and when required.

A good point for me in the grand scheme of things but once again we need to back that up with a good result at home this coming Saturday.

Up the Wings!
