Well pleased to grind out a 1-0 victory on Saturday.
You could tell after ten minutes it wasn't going to be a pretty game of football to say the least! It reminded me of one of those very early games in the 80's on artificial pitches where the ball bounced around all over the place and players couldn't control what they were doing. It seemed to take us a while to realise that you were never going to be able to knock it around and play nice football on that surface and you needed to get the ball forward quickly. Also it was a case of mistake free football and fortunately for us we only made one mistake and didn't get punished for it and when we made a couple of chances in the second half we took one of them. Well done to our threadbare squad for getting another result and I think that they all dug in but Orlu would probably be my pick for motm having backed up a good showing against Torquay the week before, Credit to the two big lads in midfield who were solid again and are both better players than they are sometimes given credit for. It was a shame to lose Barham in the week as his pace would have been ideal on Saturday and I was hopeful we could add another forward option to the mix although we may have that if Nass is back in the frame soon..??
Credit where it is due to Dan Wilks too. I haven't always been his number one fan in truth but we are starting to see exactly what he is made of and the difference having a regular keeper has made as opposed to the chopping and changing of the last few seasons. Three clean sheets in a row for him - he made some good early saves at Oxford when we need them, kept out the most prolific team in the division the game after and made the crucial penalty save on Saturday which would have turned the game against us. Add to that one of the best saves I have ever seen live at Dulwich Hamlet which was sadly in a losing cause. Will certainly be getting my vote for player of the month for February
