Message to management: - when you have a good right winger in Bodkin, don't play him on the left. When he was finally allowed to play on the right he was doing fine and then was substituted with Pinnock. Pinock incidently hardly touched the ball.
The only bit of excitment came with a mass brawl at the end. How the ref only gave one red (Kedwell) I can't understand. There should have been at least 10 yellows and a few more reds.
We also survived a good penalty appeal at the end.
On another note: - whoever organises the raffles, please make sure you can actually pick up the prize. A friend won a prize and couldn't get anywhere near the bar to pick it up and when you do get to the bar they tell you they're too busy. I stopped buying tickets ages ago because of this. Can't they be available in the club shop at the end?
Totally agree. We were pitiful. I feel sorry for wingsoldwally that this was his first performance, believe me we have been miles better than this.
Dont know why Perkins was subbed, assuming he was carrying a knock and I think a first for Jamie Day in being subbed. Didnt think we saw his best today, but then again he may not have started at 100%.
We did not boss the middle of the park but seemed to go for the long ball, best player by far was Guesty who had to battle, feel we lacked the assurance of Mooro at the back.
Why Keds was red carded is a mystery when they only ended with a yellow. With a presumed three game ban, Gleds out for the next game and the results going against us I feel the play offs are out of touch.
Fair play to Newport, the fans were behind them they raised their game and should in reality got more. They are far from the worst team I have seen at PVR this season and for the football they played I hope they survive the relagations battle.
I'm not sure I agree wholeheartedly with Alan S and BKK. Whilst this was a far from impressive performance some credit has to be given to the County. Their defence was pretty solid and capable of getting the ball out of the area and had they had a finisher there is no doubt that they would have won the game.
Substitutions baffled me. Might be a touch of rose coloured spectacles but I thought Daisy (who was subbed in the home match against Yeading and the away match at Cambridge though this may have been due to injury) was playing quite well and I didn't notice an injury. Rowland certainly didn't provide any improvement. I thought Perks was doing OK but have to admit that Che did bring a bit more and surely Pins for Bods must have been a case of new legs because tired as he may have been Bods was certainly more efective.
I'm afraid I don't regard the brawl (and it certainly wasn't the usual hanbags at 10 paces) as a bit of excitement. If I were Keds I'd be wondering why I was the only one sent off though I'd have no doubt that I myself deserved a red card. I don't think the ref or his assistant had a clue as to what had happened/was happening, especially when the ref got into the thick of it and couldn't see the incidents which broke away from the main ruck and the assistant was focused on him. I think Russ got it right in his posting on the Conference South forum and that was that more than 4 should have gone from one if not both sides and the match would then have to have been abandoned. I await with interest Ade's take on the matter.
The ref should also have done something about the Newport players incitement of the Welling fans at the end of the match.
Certainly not a National Conference standard performance by Welling and the fast fading hopes of a play off place continues.
