Not a good day but 3rd place now guaranteed which is a fantastic achievement. Roll on 5 May for the play off semi at PVR.

Still finished third, but  a peculiar line-up for a crucial match had chelmsford not blown it.. Just as well we were not playing Eastbourne away - we would have been well and truly mullered! And as I suggested, Dartford regained some pride today -  and, with just the merest hint of gritted teeth, congratulations to them. I wish I had put a few quid on them.

YOU CAN NOT MAKE THAT MANY CHANGES TO A TEAM AND CHANGE THE SYSTEM. Very honest chat with MG after the match and he couldnt understand Kings selection today. When we were down to the bare bones the team came together and ground out the results. The odd change didnt disrupt the team. To suffer our heaviest defeat of the season to a team that ends up relegated is not on. We were SH1T today and Kings got to hold his hand up and be honest, but we all know what hell say, The players I sent out were good enough to do the job but didnt follow my instructions. I Smell BullSH1T.

Let's keep today defeat in perspective. Yes it's disappointing but we have to trust SK methods when he gets it right far more than he gets it wrong. He needed to rest players and he felt try them in a different system. Onwards and upwards.

That must be the worst display of the season, we just looked like a group of strangers who happened to be wearing the same shirts, always late to the ball, persistently lumped long diagonal passes that often went straight out. Strange team selection as well with substitutes not making much of an impact.

I dont make many away fixtures and today was no encouragement to travel more next season.

Now looking for a proper performance on Saturday and the playoff semifinal at PVR.

Fortunately other results went our way so no harm done & I guess resting some players & giving others a run out might have some merit?

I would not put much hope in for a proper performance on Saturday. Nothing riding on the game so no doubt rest a few as semi is now the main focus.

My first away game today and saw my first defeat. Been to eight home games - six wins and two draws.

Couldn't understand the team selection, formation or tactics. Looks like the manager had abandoned hope of getting third and decided to rest players.

The flash point in the second half was interesting. If it had been a key game, it could have kicked off. East Thurrock players hurling abuse at Welling fans, all because their keeper, who had very little of note to do, decided to hold onto the ball and got shoved. Wish I'd videod it, as it would have gone viral.

I imagine the team for Saturday will be different with others rested. Roll on the playoffs

I think he'll play a pretty strong team as too long between Chelmsford and Play-offs

Respect to Steve King and the team for achieving 3rd spot and winning the London Cup, poor performance today, with rested players.

Next Saturday will be interesting as we don't want to risk injuries to players, but on the same token we want to bounce back from this performance and build momentum going into the play offs with a win.

It is difficult for me to get to away games. Thankfully I had to leave a bit early to pick up Smudge. Still as has been said a good achievement this season and a bye to the semi final which cannot be bad.

A big thank you to Wusa for providing the coach today, a pleasant afternoon out bar the result. Could WUSA ask the club to parade the London Cup to the fans on Saturday as it would be nice touch from the club.

I can understand that it's a really difficult balance when changing the team around. SK has bemoaned not having a big enough squad to pick from and, now he has, I suppose he wants to use that squad. I can understand changing some personnel but only keeping 5 of the starting XI from the Chelmsford game might have been a little OTT. Yes it was a warm day on Good Friday and there would have been some tired legs and maybe there are also some injuries that we are not aware of as well..?? I don't know how he decides on the rotation but I also don't know why we changed the formation as well as I doubt we will play that way in the play offs (or with those personnel) The game was crying out for Mills and I don't think he needed a rest as he had a three week one in March courtesy of that referee from the St Albans game! Whilst there was still a chance of second I would have liked to have seen a stronger starting XI playing the same formation as usual.

Having said all that, there was no excuse for the poor performance we gave. It was a chance for players to show what they were made of before the play offs and put their hand up for selection and, sadly, not very many of them did that at all. East Thurrock had plenty to play for and were clearly going to be bang up for the game but if you gift them chances and goals like we did then you are always going to be in trouble. The lad up front Higgins might be carrying a bit of timber but he has always known where the goal is at this level and, if you give him too much time and space, he will punish you. It wasn't the easiest pitch to play on and we clearly decided to bypass the midfield a lot but the long diagonal to the two smallest players on the pitch didn't seem the brightest idea to me. When Bettamer won a few high balls (and it was only a few) the other two strikers were too wide to take advantage. And when we did get the full backs in after some good approach play none of our three strikers got in the area to capitalise. Having played three central midfielders then we should have at least tried to go through them a bit more but none of them performed anywhere near as well as they can and were outfought and outthought by their opponents. Having got back to 1-2 just before half time we were still well in the game but the third goal was a catalogue of errors and, if anything, we were worse in the second half than we were in the first. Not a good day at the office at all but hopefully just a blip as we know these players are much much better than that.

I am intrigued now as to what SK does at the weekend. It is a nothing game in as much as our league position won't change - win , lose or draw. However we need to put in a decent performance before the play off games start. Also there is the matter of the players that weren't even in the squad on Saturday - is Jebb a realistic substitute for the play offs (if so surely he needs some game time on Saturday and can we really afford to leave a game changer like L'Ghoul out of the matchday squad altogether despite the fact that he has clearly had a falling out with e manager and/or is not fully fit...??

It has still been a really good season and it could still be a really great season...

Up the Wings!

Spoke to Jebby on Saturday and hes says hes ready for next weekend. Interesting what King has to say in his post match interview. For me hes got to play his strongest team as they can be relied on to do the job. Give Jebby 15minutes at the end if all is going well, but get the win and get the confidence up for the following weekend.

I agree on playing the strongest team available (subject to injuries)

However I would be tempted to start Jebb if possible. We need to know if he can do 30,45, or maybe even 60 minutes

If we just give him a few minutes at the end of the game then we won't know how much he is capable of in the play offs.

Not for me, keep Mills, Kiernan and Audel in cotton wool as long as possible. Play Nas and Jebb for a spell and give most of those who played Saturday a further chance. Nothing riding on the game other than home form top dog. Let's keep our powder dry.

Ive seen some bollox on this forum but this takes the biscuit ? Had a chat with owner and he was amazed at SK  selection? Yer because his backing  of the manager really shows he is desperate for promotion! If we had lost four players to injury and had to play reserves in play offs , we all would question SK selection. Its a small squad who will be playing massive games, get behind the team and a manager  who are only in play offs due to team spirit and a togetherness other teams dont have.

It's not a small squad at the moment though is it! Outside of the 16 that were named on Monday you can add L'Ghoul, Gibbons, Ijaha, Mccallum, Acheampong and possibly Jebb - I make that nearly two full teams.

We could lose players to injury in any game and on Saturday and/or in the first minute of the play off semi final - that is part and parcel of the game.

It's up to SK what he does on Saturday and he hasn't done a lot wrong so far this season. Whatever selection he puts out on the 5th of May all Welling fans will (or bloody well should) be behind them.

Thought we'd blown it. Chelmsford fans were convinced Kiernan dived, but it looked like he'd been clipped to me.
