We were robbed but it was expected. Referees at our level continue to be useless, gutless, naive or simply don't care. One of the reasons we've been quite successful this season is that we've had a manager and team that have been willing to play the ref. All good sides do it at our level now.
The added frustration is that our manager seems likely to leave. I hope and prey King stays and retains the majority of the squad- if he does I believe we can win the league.
But if the manager goes then likely the whole squad goes too- apart from Bradley Goldberg who is n't good enough for a National South promotion team in my opinion. If we appoint the wrong man ( someone without good contacts and who does n't understand the often cynical way that Football matches are won at this level) then next season will be a struggle. Luckily only 2 teams will go down next season from National South as the league will be extended the season after to 24 teams.
The silver lining of not winning promotion is that we don't actually need to go up! Although I'm sure King would have kept us safe it gets a lot tougher in year two when your best players (and manager) get tapped up. To compete in the 46 game National long term you need a player budget that can attract and retain a squad of 20 full time footballers. Plus a good manager, coaching, scouting and medical staff. And an executive coach to away games and some hotel stays . SO really you need an average home support of 1,000+, good sponsorship's and healthy non match day revenue. Although our crowds have increased we are still someway short of this.

The referee gave us nothing and if you look he booked our player a millisecond after a foul he was mentally looking to side with Woking.
Mousy before giving them that free kick one of their players stood over the ball when we ha a free kick we kicked it against him and the ref just laughed... its a yellow card simple . Then when Nas got clipped in box its a penalty and he saw it.
Andrew kitchen should be denoted as a referee on that basis.
In other news on Kent Online Steve King is talking about next season and having meetings with players so thankfully the early signs are that hes staying for the second season of his deal... or wants to at least . Thats very encouraging.
Chris good point, at times this season we should have got a coach and didnt and we also had to have a coach from elsewhere for Weston away as Kingsferry were owed money:
Lets see what this commercial person is like but if they are anywhere near as crap as the last three or four theyve hired I wont hold my breath.
We need to have strong foundations, at the moment they look a lot weaker next season than we had this season so much work to be done by the commercial guy and summer is the time to do it.
Interview sounds positive....hope the talks go well with MG...lets see which we will very soon...when we hear of players staying then surely that is with SK in charge

Two players signed on for this season and Coyle left the day after they were announced?!
Thankfully one was Jebb and he stayed and, of course, Steve King new how to get the best out of him (unlike his predecessor) prior to his injury.
Many people on here have a go at Dartford, which of course is understandable as they are our local rivals. However compared to the idiotic mob who follow Woking their fans are angels. Of course Woking and Dartford will not now meet in the league next season but I have to say should they be drawn together in the Cup or Trophy it will be a big COYD from me.
I stayed behind after the game, naively thinking our lads would receive losers medals (why do the play-off winners get a cup for a 1-off game, btw. But that's another thing). But on the encouragement of the guy on the tannoy, we got a super reception from the other 3 sides of the ground for a good minute or so.
A good season where we performed generally to or above expectation given who was spending what at points through the season. Much though King may not have liked the budget reduction I think he emerges with more credit having shown he can still cut it on a lower budget as well as with lots of players. That can't do him any harm going forward.
I have been to Woking for all three games this season. Each time I thought we COULD win, on none of them did I arrive thinking we WOULD win. Both teams are good enough not to be played off the park by the other so it comes down to a tight wrestle. We haven't quite been clinical enough, they have been good enough to see things out once they got in front. If you are good at that it often looks like the other side are having more of the game. In the end the Cup game leads to them getting an injection of funds and they obviously aren't mugs to come back from two down against Wealdstone. Would we have done differently if we were good enough to do it?
You aren't going to decline the promotion if you win. Are we set up to capitalise on it if we had got it, I have my doubts, much as I did last time, but for different reasons. If we can keep King, next year may be much the same. Depends on where in the division the wallets are open or not.
Two closing thoughts. Steve King, we found you an irritating bastard when we played against us for a reason. At least you have proved to be as good as we suspected you were now you are with us.
Woking, you may have had a largely good last 25 years but some of us still remember how long you were and anonymous Isthmian second division club. Many seem oblivious to this fact. Should we draw you in either cup, I'll be there. It doesn't mean that it isn't one of the more unpleasant experiences in non-league football and I won't miss it if we don't. (And this is from someone who had one of his more memorable matches in the away end at The Hawthorns in 1991)

Do you think youd of got that reception if they lost?

You mean when we draw them in the cup. I must confess I've never really minded Dartford and can tolerate Dover but there's something about Woking and their fans.
My plea to Mr King would be to stop classifying games as tough or tough tough occasionally tough tough tough and apparently last week was tough tough tough tough.
Next year if we keep the team together and strengthen in a couple of areas we will be real contenders.

I wouldn't have cared to be fair.
but you care enough that they were super
No, I said they gave us a super reception the reception they gave us was super not the fans. I've no time for them generally.
