How many times have we heard 'it's a funny old game' when referring to the glorious world of football? So why, time after time, have i read comments writing off our play off hopes? Not impressive on Saturday, but hey, we got a point. Carshalton done us a favour last night, and tonight we keep our fingers crossed hoping Eastleigh v Cambridge ends in a draw and Histon get held to a point too. Cambridge are playing Eastbourne on Saturday, who them selves can still get pulled into the relagtion zone, how many times have you seen team fighting for their lives scrape a win at this stage before? Fingers crossed Havant slip up too.
Maybe i'm being over optimistic, some would say delusional. But this is football. Stranger things have happened. An it's not impossible...yet. Keep believing.
Delusional? No but maybe a tad overoptimistic with our top goalscorer facing a 3 match ban covering I believe the last 2 matches of the season and relying on other results things don't bode well. I hope we are still be in with a shout when we meet Bishops Stotford in our final match but if I were a betting man ...

You'd have long odds and a nice sum in your pocket come the end of the season???
Premier league last season, four teams on the final day with only one to survive. Three needing results and one relying on the others. Who stays up?
O.k so it's a couple of leagues lower (and the rest) but i'm remaining optimistic. We have a pretty decent run in and with a little bit of luck who knows. Keds being banned is a downer, lets hope someone steps up and makes a name for himself in his absence.
Are we holding on to hope or just seeing the season out?
As Ade said "it's not over til the fat lady sings".
I'm still optimistic, I know it's an outside chance, but it's worth fighting for. The ideal result tonight with Eastleigh and Cambridge sharing the points, in my eyes we've got the easier of the run-ins and should aim for full points. If we still don't make it, at least we tried.
At your request JGFC, though i'm not bold enough just yet to predict the scores, here's the results (hopefully)....
We'll beat Dorchester away, Eastbourne scrape a point at Cambridge (fingers crossed everyone that they nick a last minute winner, whichever way it goes in isn't a concern ). Newport keep up their run and get a point at histon.
Unfotunately....I think Eastleigh will beat Bognor and Havant beat Thurrock. Please, please, please let me be wrong.
On the conference south guide Histon are pending a points deduction. I read they were deducted three points. Does anyone know how this stands at present?
I think you may be confusing Histon with Havant and Waterlooville re 3 point deduction. If this is the case H&W have until next week. The 14 days to give notice of an appeal against the FA decision I think ends on Monday but as its a Bank holiday weekend they might have an extra couple of days. Not really a great deal of help to us as published tables already reflect a 3 point deduction.

Oops dropped a ricket when I said 3 points already deducted in table. Checked points calculation and they have not been so no appeal by H&W WILL have a significant impact.
The odds on us getting the final play off place must have shortened significantly with todays results. We certainly have the easiest run in on paper.
Looks like it might be a last match of the season decider after all. If we do make it we will have to be prepared for the cries of "You only made it because 2 sides were deducted 3 points." to which the riposte has to be "We fielded eligible players in all 42 matches and made it on merit."

Sometimes playing the teams up the top end of the table, especially at this time of the season can be better than playing teams fighting for their lives, e.g. Eastbourne Borough. A little complacency and you can find your self a couple down and chasing a game. Very important game Monday for both sides, sure it's going to be a tough and nervy encounter.
I think Eastleigh will win at Bishop's Stortford, Havant will lose at Lewes, Cambridge will beat Yeading.
Lets hope there is a good crowd with lots of noise tomorrow.
Its in Wellings Hands to be fair and Cambridge and Havant have very tough games. Especially if St Albans get a result at Weymouth. Looks like some VERY big crowds for Welling coming up and possible securing the second best attendance average in the league.
As you say Welling must be the favourites to claim the play off spot looking at the run ins.
This is the time for players to stand up and be counted and become a hero. Kedwell suspended. So who do we rely on? Bod or put Perks up front with Che?
Im sure Ade will get them fired up. Lets hope the club dont fluff their lines.

The excellent thing is that Carthy seems to have settled back in and hit form. I wouldnt write off more goal from MC just when we need them. I also take back the "im not sure it was a good signing" Hes done the business when we really needed it and that will do for me, Well done Martin. Just wish you had of signed when you should have done. Now get those goals.

Not having been there either SoaW , I cannot make a valid summary of Martin Carthy's contribution to the game. I can however say that being in the right place to bang in 3 goals is extremely unlikely to have happened by sheer chance.
Speaking generally, it is often easy to overlook the contribution a player makes to a match when they do so in a quiet but workmanlike way. Yes we can all clearly see for example the spectacular like Bods flying down the wing but many, for example, fail to recognise the inventiveness and sheer hard work of Daisy.
