Its a real shame I have to write this but I think its important fellow fans who pay their money to support the club know about this.

Back on bank holiday Monday V Tonbridge, I was accidentally struck by a ball during the pre match warm up as I was coming back up from bending down to pick up a bottle of water. I was sitting at the side of the pitch and this ball struck me so hard it was like a missile. It hit me very hard with my right eye taking the full force whilst it was open and relaxed. I have no idea why it was travelling at such speed but I recall a Welling player coming over to apologise. Thankfully Hugo Langton was very kind and got the physio and first aider to take a look at me. They deemed I was ok, have me some ice and that was that. I do remember Goldberg looking over and giving me a customary wave, shame he could not be bothered to walk over and actually talk to me like Hugo.

Unluckily for me, I started to suffer very bad black floaters in my right eye vision later that day. Over the following two days, I had to see my GP, opticians and was referred to hospital where I was diagnosed with extensive angle recession in the eye, which is basically damage to the drainage system of the eye. Plus a small hole had developed within the eye socket. It also had incredibly low pressure, below the normal pressure range for an eye. In other words, a quite serious eye trauma. I also had bruising under my right armpit for two days to give you an idea of how hard the ball struck me. I only managed to return to work yesterday (on the advice of the hospital) and face the possibility of being out of work for a further extensive period if the hospital think I need further treatment once I see them in a couple of weeks. I have also been told I will need a check up once a year for the rest of my life because of the damage suffered.

Its important to note that I have always recognised this was an accident and have wanted nothing out of the the club. However, all I have wanted was a nice formal apology from the club and some genuine interest in my wellbeing since the incident. They really have failed in this instance and just dealt with it as if nothing had happened.

Tweets to the official club account about this incident - no response. My wife completed an online query form ages ago - never had a response. It took my wife to track down the club secretary via twitter to send a PM and finally receive a phone call. I was told I would have to go to the ground to fill in an incident form, noting that I still did not get an apology during the phone call. When I arrived at the club, the secretary was busy so another gentleman gave me the necessary form to fill in. When the secretary eventually came to see me, he told me that there are some processes behind the scenes which have changed since Goldberg took over and simply not enough people within the club know about them, one of them being incidents. This is rather worrying. The form itself should have been completed on the match day itself by a steward but no one at the club followed the correct procedures. So I filled in the form myself which was very odd on this particular day I went to the ground after being driven by my wife. The secretary took the form, gave me a copy and that was that. No apology, genuine interest in me, how am I doing, nothing. I was really taken aback. I even mentioned I had not been able to work, this seemed to just fall on deaf ears.

Im so disappointed with how the club have handled this to the point where I will not be retuning and paying my money into the club when they treat a supporter like this under Mr Goldbergs ownership. I have being going often to home games for the last 30 years and is very sad this is how a so called family club deal with situations like this.  I hold Goldberg solely responsible for this as the owner, it his his responsibility to ensure the match day protocols are fit for purpose and care of supporters is taken seriously, which its clearly not.

I sincerely hope the club gets itself into shape off the pitch with protocols to cover serious situations like mine so the next person who may be unlucky like me is treated better. Yes it was an accident, I fully recognise that but the club needs to understand this happened on their premises and they have to take responsibility in dealing with these instances seriously, its simply not acceptable.

i wish the team all the best for the season and would like to place on record here my gratitude to Hugo Langton who was very kind with how he treated me. Just a real shame the club officials and owner could not do the same.

I wont be looking at this forum again so no need to respond with comments as I wont be reading them. I also dont want any contact from the club now, they have had enough time. If someone connected to the club sees this, please sort things out. This is not how any football club should be run, regardless of level.

Very sorry to read this. Sounds like a terrible and nasty injury.

I think Chairman Goldberg would be very sympathetic, and would have relied on Hugo's reassurance that you were ok. Goldberg is many things, but quite sure he'd be contrite and if you suffer financial loss he'd put that right, and will be in touch. The last thing he wants is a claim against the insurance (they have got insurance, right?)

In any case the club has a duty of care to look after you while in the stadium, and during the game you might be expected to keep an eye on the pitch. Sure a personal injury lawyer would know the ins and outs of negligence around paying attention/not paying attention. In any event the club are insured, and it wasn't Goldberg who struck the ball. Sure he'd have relied on Hugo/Physio's report.

That said, was reading that the Liverpool CEO stayed in hospital with a fan who was injured at a bar in Naples pre-game (so not even in the stadium) ......

Really hope you are ok.... :(

The club attended to you on the day, you werent looking at the pitch taking care. Not sure you can blame Goldberg . He may not have been informed about it by his support staff . Maybe you can get a signed glove like they get in golf when a shanked drive smashes into someones head.

I am confident Goldberg would be concerned and check that you are on the mend. Had you phoned the club or gone to see Goldberg or a director then I am sure you wouldnt have had to email the webmaster or private message the media team to get some attention or bottle of Prosecco and some Ferrero Roche.

Blaming Goldberg and the club for being hit in the face while you werent watching is a bit silly especially as Hugo and the Physio attended to you immediately.

That's terribly bad luck. I was a couple of rows behind you and it was Luke Rooney who deflected the ball that struck you and who came over and apologised. I hope you make a full recovery.

That is just bad luck - I took an accidental bash to my right eye last year which is now causing me trouble but it isn't the pubs fault I was in

Are you looking for a payoff? If you are then do one - accidents happen and they are s**t but just go away if you are after money

The poster said they are not after money.

But If they are entitled to it, they should take it IMO - that's why insurance exists, for accidents, bad luck and unpredictable occurrences

I was probably a bit harsh but accidents do happen - if every time someone gets a ball in the face at a game claims then clubs will need to put nets up around the pitch
