Agreed. Whitstable deserved their win - hungrier, sharper and won the 50/50 challenges all night.

The only home players to emerge with any credit for me were Green (playing as a makeshift centre back) and Cosgrave who I thought was our best player on the night (not saying a lot mind)

So what was the score?

Might have been just as well we played badly, gave the new manager a chance to see the team in its true colours

Lost 2-1. We were 1 up at half time after a shot hit the post and went in off the back of their keeper. They had much the better of the second half and scored twice in the last 15 minutes to win.

As you say sometimes this sort of performance can be a blessing. BQ has watched a few games of late anyway so knows the size of the task ahead I am sure.

Normally, I want Welling to win every game they play but this was like a friendly for the new manager to work with his players for the first time with no league points at stake, and at least it means no midweek away game at somewhere like Dover or Margate to worry about.
