I find it a shame that all the work the academy does to get players up to the standard to be knocking on the first team door that they just get overlooked.so then welling lose them to other clubs.

Dont forget the financial aspects of coaching youngsters and encouraging them to move up the ladder.

Yeah its a shame, certain coaches/managers are not interested in blooding the youngsters in the first team at welling.im sure the 3-4 quality players that was coming through the academy at welling would rather be playing national football then sitting in an u18 pro academy. They would get so much more out of it as well. Just lost one player to Charlton because the first team are not interested in working with youngster.and Im sure there be more moving into pro academys instead of going up into the first team getting slowly worked into the set up.I know Quinton wasnt getting the results but at least he was willing to work with the academy at welling. Unlike the new lot.

The reason I say this is because they have an academy lad signed and CONTRACTED and haven't even bothered to invite him into train!! Theyve had their chance.it doesnt exactly give hope to all the other lads knocking on the door doest it. The link between the first team and academy has never been further apart as it is now.because of football politics.

If they were good enough for mens football they would play or train, simple. Just cos Charlton can take someone and let him play youth football for 4 years does not mean he's ready to play at the level we need.

Theyre good enough! They was training under brad Quinton, and in training was better and fitter then some of the players that are in the first team now. Theyve just been totally disregarded under the new lot without even seeing them play. Lets just let them all walk out the door for welling to loan them back once theyre at a pro academy

Exactly. There are some 18 year old's who are probably technically able to train with a 1st team squad but playing a game against physically stronger mature men is a different thing. Putting them in at the deep end sometimes kills their confidence and will set them back.

Oh behave yourself can't even be bothered to tell you every reason you're wrong, obviously have some agenda here. Same agenda that the former DOF had that subsequently had him removed from duties. Good day and farewell.

No agenda, and the DOF stepped away because Goldberg couldnt keep hes noes out again.just doesnt make sense to go out and loan u23 players in that aint no better thats in your own academy.and its a fact that 2-3 of the welling academy players are better then some of whats already in the first team. Ive been seeing it with my own eyes 2 times a week. Good day to you too.

That makes no sense. If the club could utilise better players than they have for a fraction of the cost, I'm sure that they would do so. I don't know enough about Steve Lovell's background to know whether he likes to give youth a chance but I do know that Tristan Lewis would. It's still early days for the new management team and I'm sure that they will be looking at the current squad and then see whether they have some academy players who will fit into their way of playing.

Was the lad who has gone to Charlton ever around the first team squad when Brad Quinton was manager?

So you're either a coach or a parent.

New management team haven't even played a game yet so how could even know what their plan is.

I watch a U21 team but I don't recommend they are good enough for mens football every week because that is naive having watched plenty of mens football at all levels. And take the JPT trophy for instance, u23 teams from the Premier league regularly getting spanked by league 1 and 2 teams

Didn't the previous team get a load of loans in rather than utilise their own academy??? Where were these 2 or 3 players then?

Couldn't keep his nose out of his own club? Dof couldn't keep his nose out of the 1st team with the agenda of trying to force academy players on the manager so that it looks good on him and then he can promote that and get another £50 a month off of another parent. Academy = Cash cow. Oh and then he sacked the manager without telling the chairman first because he wouldn't comply...

U18s arent good enough for the first team. How many have we brought through in the last 20 years? Academy football pays people wages it doesnt develop players. Even at National League level the academy players have more chance of being an amazon driver than a footballer even at step 5 or 6 and most walk away or play Sunday Football.

You cannot keep kids when League clubs want them, we lost another one to Wycombe a few years ago then he went on to a better club. Yes it would be better for them to be playing mens football but when a league clubs comes knocking they see a chance of making it as a footballer and most will go without a second thought.

Lets be fair here

Unless the academy is making us money (It isn't , Garry Fiore and Brett Smith own it and if we get anything it will be a peppercorn good will sum) and unless its producing players for the first team or to sell to league clubs. Why have we got an academy? Nothing to do with community as lots of the boys will be from outside the area.

If our academy is just making money for the directors who own it are the players being developed with the clubs interest at heart if players are going to leave for league clubs for feck all?

Pretty sure the reason for an academy is to bring homegrown players through the system into the 1st team!! With an identity on the playing style running from u8s all the the way to the 1st team. That can only work if the everyone is on board, and at the moment I dont think that will be happening at all!
There probably isnt any u18s good enough at the moment as these players will be 16,17!
The u19 national alliance squad is however playing against some of the best non league academies in the south and have been doing
Well until lockdown.3-4 players have been around the 1st with training and involvement in games, its a matter of opinion if their good enough or not but ones already left to a pro club and another has been contracted by the club and now it seems left out in the cold by the new management team! It seems to me that people on here couldnt careless about the academy its all about a quick fix, bring in so and so from down the road hes played at this level he can do a job!!but he cant run and hesi on the piss most weekends!! Oh and he played for Bromley! This has been the identity of this club for god knows how long now and look where we are!!
Just look at the successful clubs around and do they have academies???? Thatll be a yes!! Id much rather see some kid giving his all for a club hes been playing at for a few years and been working hard at getting to that point than some has been mercenary strolling around nicking a living from our club! but hey thats just my opinion.
