First and foremost hats off to Worthing who, on the evidence of last night, would more than hold their own in National League South. They were fit, sharp and quick at moving the ball and far too good for us who were the complete opposite - slow, lethargic and, in some cases, extremely unfit.
There were a number of poor tackles form us, most of which caused by getting to the ball far too late and not being in a position to compete. I get the budget situation but there is no excuse for the (lack of) performance and sheer apathy shown yesterday - pre season friendly or not.
Perhaps the most disappointing factor is that I have attended the last two pre season friendlies and, in both cases, the strides being made by Chatham and Worthing on and off the pitch is miles away from where we currently are. I would like to say we are treading water but I am not sure we are even doing that.
I believe we have a decent manager and a few decent players but nowhere near enough on the evidence of the games I have seen over the last few weeks. I know the real stuff doesn't start for a couple of weeks but we need some drastic changes in both personnel and attitude based on the last two games or it is going to be a long long season...
Very very disappointing last night. So bad in fact that I didn't seek any interviews after, we was second best in most departments ,they was quicker to the ball and counter attacked at an amazing pace. At the moment we don't look anywhere near fit enough and what worries me is our next 2 away friendlies are at well organised clubs tgat have recruited well. Yes I know its pre season but we should be making significant progress and at the moment I can't see it. Off the pitch Worthing like Chatham have a good set up, quite a good crowd last night and the bars and food hut was doing a good trade, just a pity we couldn't give a performance...on the Cray Valley Saturday
You get some funny results in pre-season though. We should have beaten League 1 Gills a couple of weeks ago and now weve lost to Isthmian League Worthing.
Very disturbing reports above. Pre season is about getting up to speed fitness and tactical wise. Sorting the wheat from the chaff etc. It appears we only two weeks away from the season starting are absolutely miles away. We will be getting embarrassed week in week out I fear.
Its just a cut and paste from last year, but apparently none of it mattered when people called it out before spending most the time at the bottom of the league. MG clearly putting all his eggs in one basket, and that is the development of the ground. Nobody at the club will officially say it but the money is there its just not being used on the playing budget. Come October and being in the bottom 5 well probably sign 4 decent players at a overinflated wage to what we could of now because theyll know we are desperate.
Gillingham I thought was ok but doesnt sound like weve improved since. Lots of work to do in the next two weeks and Havant away now sounds very daunting.
