I didn't know the referee was late, if he was, but would only comment that I would have travelled much further, was aware of the potentially delays on the A2, set off earlier and the SatNav took me on an alternative route.
A second reason for the delay was that the net at the Park End was not fully secured to the bar, so a pair of step ladders and "duck tape" had to be used.
Back to the referee, sadly he has "form" with Welling United and we always expect a controversial decision to go against us. On Saturday he didn't disappoint with the sending off. Is this why he has not progressed out of the National League South? We all make mistakes, and we appreciate that a referee is needed to make impartial decisions on incidents, but with my rose tinted glasses I am not convinced it is co-incidence that we appear to get the rough end of most of them when he officiates our matches.
I don't like Packman and probably never will but he didn't cost us that game. Not being able to defend two long throws had more of a bearing on the final score as did the calamitous defending that lead to the third goal. After the rules were explained to me after the game, I couldn't argue with the red card either and it suggests that, like me, players and management were unsure of the current rules..?? In general play in the first half I felt we were slightly better and still thought at 1-2 we could get something from the game but the penalty and red card put paid to that.
I think the young lad Biler from Wimbledon performed well and was comfortably our best player. I thought Chi and Che in spells did well as well although the manager clearly begged to differ as he subbed them both! The rest of them...mmm...let's just say that it will take a few weeks for them to gel.
I get the small budget (well I don't completely get it and I can't forget it as we are constantly reminded of it) I don't like the one training session a week - never have and never will. I used to do that much playing kids football and even Sunday football after that..?! There is obviously more to it than that but it should not excuse the condition that some of our semi-professionals/paid footballers find themselves in two weeks into the season. At this level players should look after themselves to a certain extent and take care of their own fitness to some degree and then have pre season to blow off the cobwebs. That is clearly not the case with some of ours and I don't understand why we put up with it and why we persist in playing said players. What must the likes of Brown and Harding think sitting on the bench (or not even in the squad) when they see the players coming on in the second half. This is the National League South and not a boot camp for players who need to sharpen up their fitness levels.

Spot on, as always. Packman didn't cost us the game but if it was a red card and need to learn the new laws.
Players getting caught out of position (the reason that Packman had the opportunity to do what he did) can only be worked on in training, and once a week is not sufficient, especially if fitness work needs to be included.
Good to see the team moving to 2 a week, at least we ll he on par with other clubs in the league. Shame it took a poor pre season and a couple of games for it to happen
Oh, for Christ sake, training 1 day a week didnt work in the Swaine/Waldron lets get the band get back together side. Why did anyone else think it would now?
I could understand if we were playing twice a week From the off, but thats not happening until later into October

Exactly! No lessons learnt
It's odd. Strange it took until now and perhaps fueled by lovells clear anger about the situation in his post match interview.

I think you are right. Ive only just listened to the post match interview and the training/fitness aspect was clear SL was unhappy with. Maybe the club wanted to see how things went but so obvious after two games one day a week was never going to work. As said above it never worked previously so Im amazed it was part of our preparation.
I can't help but think Lovell was part of the only training once a week decision and that part of his interview after Saturday was just deflecting some of the blame, this is just a fan/player reaction.
His words at the start of pre season were along the lines of "we may not be the best squad but we'll be the fittest and give it our all" we'll we're certainly yet to see that.
And I'm sorry but you don't sign players like Hinds (out of fan money may I add) and only train once a week, he showed a couple of nice touches when he came on that shows the ability is there but he clearly needs fitness and ain't gonna get that doing a hour and half a week.
