Just seen on facebook our pre season home fixtures are cancelled due to renovations to ensure the pitch is better than last year. Personally I congratulate the club in being sensible and taking this decision otherwise the team could end up playing on a muddy field during the winter.

I suspect the new grass isnt progressing due to it not getting enough water. Without a proper sprinkler system its always been difficult to get enough water on the pitch in dry spells.
Not sure why they are talking about last season as I can't recall any games being postponed due to the pitch. In fact not sure why they were saying pre-season games postponed as I hadn't seen any announcements about home friendlies but see in the thread we were playing Lewes and Herne Bay so maybe I just missed that.
every summer it can be a problem with the weather and watering but the Club seems to have overcome that up until now so not quite sure why it would be different this year and such a dramatic step, maybe delay your home pre-season but not scrap them all though in fairness if it was only Lewes and Herne Bay they were hardly likely to pack the ground out ! All a bit disappointing

I have noticed elsewhere many clubs have been looking for away PSFs rather than home. I think this is because leagues finished later than previous seasons thus giving less time for pitch restoration. We do not have an artificial pitch and with 3 extra league games at home plus, hopefully, a few cup games I would think the board is rightly being cautious.

Games weren't postponed but the pitch was an absolute disgrace, probably the second worst in the league. If we are putting together a squad that is going to be more competitive, we don't want to be hampered by playing on a ploughed field. The likelihood of this happening was probably the reason for delaying announcing the home friendlies.
As Dave said, it has been a shorter pre-season this year, and that has not helped, but this will not have been a decision that was taken lightly as it has cut off an income stream at the time of year when there is very little coming in.

Not forgetting it gets no breathing space because of that lot over the road. I hope their friendliest have been postponed as well.

Charlton would have been a decent pound note surely?
If it had been first team as usual but this year they were only sending their under 23s on the Friday before they had Swansea at home. Next year I have a strong feeling we will get in early to book PSF games against decent sides.

If all goes to plan it sounds like we'll be laying a artificial pitch at the end of this season so that would mean no home friendlies.

I had forgotten that put it down to old age.
