Well done to the WUFC Board for coming up with this. Ive read on the main website and the twitter account about a new initiative to attract more women to PVR on match days. For September which includes 3 home games women will gain entry for £5. A donation of £1 will go to the WUFC womens team from that fee. Concessions Under 18s and Over 65s will get the same deal for that period too.  Also when booking tickets online the £1 booking fee will be waived until further notice. Excellent stuff.

How about you flip it 360, and offer discounts to men?
Personally, got a ST, so couldnt care less either way.
Food for thought though.

Its about getting more people to attend matches. Thats a good thing. Isnt it? Isnt it. Is it a crime to try to attract the younger generation with hair into the ground. Bloody hell! Cheer up it might never happen baldy. Oh sorry it already has.

Too true, I would love to see hoards of young people banging drums and chanting for the wings in PVR. Might not suit a lot in my age group but we need to encourage youngsters in if the club is to survive the next season and the season after and so on.

Im not a massive fan of drums either but when used in a sensible way they undoubtedly make for a more roucous atmosphere. Other clubs seem to drum up ( pardon the pun) a better more intimidating atmosphere by using them. We have to get away from the old fuddy duddy middle aged ways we are in and let the kids have some fun too.

Im not sure drums do make for a good atmosphere, usually a decent vocal crowd doesnt need one.  Our temporary covered end now makes the atmosphere better anyway. Each to their own but I find them annoying.

It's a great initiative. I normally come on my own but this means I can bring my two girls for free tomorrow to see if they like it. And guess what, once they see the burger van or see a shop with merch...

Exactly this! It's about getting people in the ground. Once they are in there then they will spend more.

I've said to the club before about doing a deal for the 12.30 game. Make it £3.50 a pint between 12 and 1.30 or that's the price of a pint until someone scores a goal in that game. You've then got people in the ground spending money at the bar, food van, club shop until 3pm.

So would you rather see us play in front of 450-500 people or try different ideas to boost our attendance to 1000+ if possible?

I dont agree with everything Dulwich do but they have massively increased their crowds over the last few years to 2500+ and look at the amount they spend once in the ground. Bigger crowds = more revenue = hopefully a better team.

As for Welling Town you will need to change trains at Dartford to get ti Chatham.

Sorry to hear you are so against the club trying to attract business as does most businesses. Where would Tesco or Asda be without advertising promotions etc. Trying to attract business isnt a bad thing for a business.

We don't want to be Dulwich where a minority watch the match but surely we want a Welling that's growing commercially and can be competitive in this league and beyond. Change isn't always easy but neither is watching your club dying a slow and painful death

Just hand out the guardian at the turnstiles...

I just get pissed off with stupid gimmicks that basically stick two fingers up to people who pay full whack. I get the drive to get more people in but unfortunately it won't happen and all it will be is any women who always turn up will get half price tickets

Welling United just isn't a "trendy" club so people don't turn up en mass...if the club could get some waste of space Love Island contestant turn up the attendance would sky rocket - sad but true

Anyway great result today

All business's target different customers at different times of the year. Gyms offering cheaper deals in January etc. Cinema's offering one off cheaper tickets than those who subscribe monthly, Sky TV doing cheaper packages to get new customers in.

Why would you be against the club trying different things to get people in the ground? All good if you ask most people. The average attendance this season is nearly 1000, and this fixture last year I'm guessing got 500 at most? So the club is attracting more people. If these offers don't work then at least they've tried, how different is it to last year that we've got the desire to try and get fans through the door!?

I'd you've not been to Welling Town, how do you know they are well run?

Some people just to love to moan about anything they can.

I just hate these gimmick offers - you might get an extra 20 people for one week and that's it

Town is a well run club but I shouldn't have mentioned them as they have nothing to do with this so apologies

I go watch loads of pro wrestling stuff and they are crying out for more fans as they need the cash but they don't do this sort of thing. I should take a chill pill and not let it annoy me but it does. If there was a "men's discount month" then the BBC would be all over it and denounce the club, but the other way round and everyone applauds it...

Yes the crowds announced have really been unbelievable this season !

Our crowds have been gradually increasing for a while now but if you think there was 965 at the ground today you've got to be kidding. Most of us who attend matches have a guess what the crowd is when we are watching the game and in all previous seasons are never normally that far out, we tend to know what 500 looks like at Welling, what a 600 looks like etc, but given our capacity is under 3500 and we have a whole end shut off, if people think that in the rest of the ground it was nearly half full as the announced crowd would imply they must be on something !

As another example do people really think there was more there today than last season when we played Ebbsfleet. It was a docent crowd today probably around 700 so can they sort the adding up before they announce in future.

As for the game today, without wishing to state the obvious we were very good, particularly the front line as Oxford looked far from a poor team. Our keeper made a great save at 2 - 0 and it might have been different had that gone in. How much we would give for this to be repeated next Saturday !

I agree with that no doubt the crowds have gone up and its great. But I thought 965 looked a lot for how many in the ground. 700 would have been my guess as well, more than happy to be proven wrong and put in my place though of course.

Superb performance today.

Judging by some of the negative to change comments here, maybe we could rename the team Grinches United! At the end of last season the team had a fanbase of mostly mature male fans attending, with very few kids and very few females attending. The club board is quite sensibly trying to expand its fan base, because as has been said already, there is a possible continuous improvement cycle of more fans = more money = better players = better results = more fans, = more money etc. I bet there are some players Warren would love to have signed, but which we just didn't have the money for.

I was sitting in a stand against Oxford where there were tons of kids and parents, and they were buying programmes, burgers and chips, which is money that helps the club. We have got some top quality players, and need to be able to pay them enough to keep them, otherwise they will be off to someone paying better, so attracting new fans, and the money they generate, is really important for the present and future of the club.

I cannot comment on sales in bars or burger van only the shop. Yesterday a lot more women and families came in to look around. Last time I saw such an influx of new faces was when we were presented with the winners trophy back in 2013. Next year we begin our 60th anniversary and I for one hope the board do incentives to bring in more local people.

It's a great initiative. It means Mums can bring kids - the future of our supporter base for a lot less. This is particular for single mothers on low incomes etc, etc. Further better if it rids the club of incel types who see this as some kind of 'woke' measure that may leave them turning into Muslims blah, blah, blah. More women less racists, I say.

Really enjoyed the game yesterday and a fantastic result. Good to see a lot of families with children there too. That's a real good initiative for the club to encourage more women etc. Can't believe some of the negative comments on here when there are a lot of people behind the scenes trying to make the club more appealing. Speaking to someone yesterday we agreed that the amount of information coming out from the club on social media has been the best it has ever been and I for one find that great. Previous seasons I hardly knew what was going on before the start of the season let alone who was still at the club. Onwards and upwards.

In all the years Ive watched WUFC it has always stood out how few women, children and young adults they attract. So for the club to put on promotions to attract these groups is a no brainier. Getting old sods and middle aged men into the ground hasnt been a problem and isnt a priority.

Have you ever considered the fact that women don't really like football?

Obviously there are female fans but most women aren't really that interested - like blokes watching soaps...men and women have different interests.

And for the post above - yes I have a problem with women (eye roll emoji)

Have I "ever considered the fact women don't like football?" You should really provide some empirical evidence if that is your stated belief.

Just so you are aware:

England are the European champions of the women's game.

Football is now the number participant sport for girls and young women

England's women team will fill Wembley at their next home game.

I would suggest women have stayed away from football mainly because of the attitudes of a Neanderthal few.

I suppose when the club moves to address the lack of diversity in terms of race and ethnicity, you'll also point out that black people don't like football?

By the way, I don't even watch the women's game; but it pleases me they are growing in their interest and confidence in the sport as a whole. Some of them even have their own monies to spend.

Studies have proven some women can even drive cars.
