Walked past the ground this morning and popped in. Let's just say the pitch will be challenging to play football on tomorrow.

Looking forward to this, as Dartford are a strange team, lost 4 out of their first 7, then beat us 5 - 1 and that started a good run of only losing 2 out of 20, but have now unexpectedly lost their last two league games against Hemel and Worthing, letting in 3 each time, and looking very poor in central defence so hopefully we can exploit that weak area of theirs. We are about 2 - 1 with the bookies, they are around evens, which sounds great value for us, but if the pitch is dodgy, or players get sent off in a volatile game anything is possible.

We are on 35 points, with 60 points still left to play for. Experienced posters here say 50 points is enough for safety, so hopefully we will get 3 of the 15 points we need in this game.

Welling fans have complained about how we only play the long ball, and don't use the wings enough. So I was amused to have a look at a Dartford fans forum, and have copied and pasted what one of their fans said about their team:

"No plan b, hoof it long and no width! Give the ball away too much hence you get caught out at the back".

Typical Dartford arrogance. Tell them how to get to dressing room so wheel 2 suit cases across pitch.

Great atmosphere today a bit disappointing we didn't win. Good debut by Alexander whose pace unsettled the Dartford defence.

A very competitive derby game. Four well taken goals. I await the whinging regarding our second goal. The linesman put his flag up to say the ball crossed the line straight away. I believe his grandfather was also a linesman and was Russian too. What are the chances. Really enjoyed the game. Bloody funny watching the Dartford yoof giving it large outside the ground after. Pathetic. Some very decent performances from our players. If they show the same commitment to each game we will have something the cheer for the rest of the season. Well played lads.

We will never know for sure, but I think the ref realised he had made a mistake whistling when Ade was through on goal and scored a fab goal that was disallowed because the ref hadn't played the advantage, so he evened that out by allowing a goal that may well not have crossed the line. But whatever, a really great performance.

I thought during the game this was like a boxing match, where instead of us going on the backfoot after going ahead (which we have previously done) today for the first time I can remember we had the balls and confidence to stand toe to toe and slug it out instead of retreating into our shell. That new "attack is the best form of defence" worked so well, as yes, they got an equalising goal, but if we had just been sitting back and defending for the whole of the second half they would quite likely have scored more than one, and we'd be sitting here thinking about a 2 - 3 loss or worse.

A while back on here there was an interesting talk about how we would fare if we played a division higher, and Matt made a really interesting point to me afterwards that the division above is harder as the finishing there is more clinical, needing less chances to score than are needed in a lower division. I thought of that watching today's game, as Dartford hardly had any shots today, yet still scored twice. So a great performance from us to limit them like that, and for us to score twice against a team that has only conceded a goal a game so far this season.

The progression from losing 1 - 5 last time to a 2 - 2 draw this time, and bossing the first half, and having an equal share of the second half is really impressive, well done Warren and the guys.

Think I understand why Payne gets the bookings he does.
He was a very good player and age has caught up with him.
Now we have two very good loan signings, he is past his sell by date.
10/10 for effort, but the two loaners alongside Azeez is the way forward.
We have been lacking pace in attack, and today proved it.
Work in progress? I am beginning to get it.
Think that statement applies to the ground, the team and the management
Something they would probably agree (in hignsight) with.
All in all, one of the better days out over PVR this afternoon.
It is surprising how a decent crowd can call a decision because in all honesty, neither the linesman nor referee could have called our second goal.

Would of taken that before KO and anyone who's says differently is lying.
Today we see what we expect, effort and commitment. Many good individual performances with dunne having his best game in a welling shirt. Hopefully it continues.

The game could have gone either way and what a save near the end to make sure we got a point. To not get battered was so important to the fans after the previous matches and to compete as we did was a big improvement.  In Warren's post match interview he said was disappointed not to get the three points but it was crucial we didn't risk it for 0 points.  Some decent performances lately and Alexander looked lively, imagine if he had 90 minutes in him yesterday.

Thought Dartford got better as the game went on but how are they second? Seen much better teams this season.

I was almost level with Ade's goal, well over the line.  Glad the lino didn't bottle it, despite Dartford cloggers screaming in his face. 4 points from two tough games. I wasn't sure we would get one.

Wallop mentioned lessons learned, there is an important lessons I hope the management team see to help further improve next season. We had challenging home pre-season home games that quite sensibly got cancelled when we had to give the newly laid pitch more time to grow. But apart from a tough match against a Charlton youth team, all the pre-season games we played were against lower division teams. We won them, but I remember thinking then those lower games didn't really test our possible new players enough to give us much idea of our ability at our regular National League South standard. As we consistently won against less effective teams we weren't finding out what our manager and players response would be when things don't go well, as it is important to know characters under pressure before signings. So hopefully this pre-season we will get a much more balanced set of games, some lower division teams for hopefully confidence boost easier games, some against teams in our division, and a few against higher division teams, who would really test us and show any weaknesses before we commit to new players. Some of our departed players like Tyrique, Devonte, Palace, Tom didn't really make much impact in our games, so playing better teams pre season would have made that clearer more quickly.

So when we had our bad second quarter of the season, it was partly because as a team we hadn't yet learned how to deal when things go wrong. I think we are getting that now. They equalised twice yesterday, with actually very poor goals defensively, as we weren't doing the basic part right of defending goal side (having one of our players between the opponent and our goal, so they had two unchallenged clear shots) but unlike before our heads didn't drop after conceding, we didn't drop back, but carried on playing our attacking football.

When Ade joined us I read his Wikipedia page for an idea of who this new player was. We are his 14th team, his season best was 11 goals, scored last season at Dartford. Earlier on this season he was on 8 goals and I had a very quick word with him before a game, just to congratulate him on being in the form of his life, as it was clear by the end of this season he would set a new personal scoring best for a season. He got his 12th league goal of the season against Dartford on Saturday, setting a new PB for a season, form of his life, which is well worth recognition here!

Our win against Hungerford was our first in 6 weeks, and Hungerford are so bad, the one team in this league one can guarantee will be relegated, I remember watching their highlights of the match before we played them, and their shooting was hopelessly wide. They were then like that against us too, but we only just managed a 1 - 0 win. After that match our players didn't celebrate the welcome win, just looked totally flat, and I thought "wow, there is no team spirit here", it all just looked like unrewarding hard work for them. Warren came in with the single minded approach of fixing things by working the players harder and harder, but the problem with that single minded approach is it is very joyless for the players, no highs, no lows, just draining hard work.

I think he's realised he needed to ease up, and be more realistic, lighter and less critical about the players, so recently a training session was used for bonding, and instead of us losing that week's match from not having trained as hard as normal, we won! And last week, as preparation for a tough match against our local rivals, Warren and players prepared by zooming off for a break in Dublin. And we then played great against Dartford! So it is great to see the guys enjoying their football more on Saturday and recent games.

Can only echo what others have said on here.

I suppose I am slightly disappointed we didn't win after leading twice but, if you had offered me 2-2 five minutes before kick off, I would have bitten your hand off! If I'm being slightly picky (and I am) we essentially got caught out by the same ball for both goals. Their number four was clearly their most dangerous player and we could/should have closed him down quicker and not been done twice by the same tactic.

Loads of positives to be taken however. Dunne had his best game in a Welling shirt for me and was a worthy winner of the motm award. KLF had another good game and Alexander looks like being a real asset for the rest of the season. And great to see a big crowd and plenty of youngsters supporting the Wings - hopefully we can keep them coming back and recover the lost generation(s)

As the manager has alluded to in his interview the test now is to keep these levels up. The effort and commitment should be a given anyway but it will be a cold night tomorrow and a much smaller crowd and different atmosphere but Cheshunt will be on our faces and bang up for it. Therefore we need to maintain the levels of the last two games and put in another strong performance. We have a better squad and better bench now and we might need them all with the games coming thick and fast in the next few weeks.

Up the Wings!

To echo what Gavin has said it really is great to see the youngsters at PVR. Not only kids coming with parents but also multi generational families with grandparents as well have been popping into the shop. Its been a right pain not having enough junior size replicas available hope its better from July.

From a Dartford forum - A big thanks to Erith & Belvedere who kindly left their gates wide open until just before 2.30 granting free entry to everyone who walked past them . I mean who would actually pay to go to that **** hole

Stupid to leave gates open and also noted the E&B bar was open.

The gate problem has already been reported to the clubs chairman.
