George got a yellow card Tuesday night for charging down the ball when the keeper was about to kick it upfield. It's something we see when the striker does make contact with the ball (they often don't) and the ref dishes out a yellow. What is the law on this? If it is an offence there's no point doing it - you either win the ball, keeper gets a free kick and you get a yellow OR you don't win the ball and the keeper kicks it upfield as planned. You also have the striker off-side.
Is there any way a striker can win the ball legitimately? I suppose if the keeper dropped the ball on the floor and took a touch then George could have blocked the next kick but straight off there doesn't seem any point.
The ref was awful Tuesday just like our performance, apart from the first 20mins. Not to blame for the defeat but in some cases it will impact results with that display. Don't get how he got simple timekeeping so wrong - he played 3mins additional time after all the bookings, timewasting, chat to Feeney, goal, subs, sending off, injuries. As for the 2nd yellow, hope we appeal.
My understanding is that you are not allowed to raise a foot when the goalkeeper releases it to kick on the volley. If he puts it down on the ground, it's fair play.
