Credibility once lost seldom regained - and he has none with players or fans. He should have gone weeks ago. There's no happy ending here. If the owners want to carry on slipping towards oblivion and producing a brand of football that attracts gates of 400, it's up to them - in which case they already have the right man. If they don't, change it. Very simple

Fact is he won't be sacked under the current owner for multiple reasons and I don't believe that owner really cares about the football, just the off-field stuff. That's not to say I don't like him cos he's a nice guy to talk to and without him we would of been about to go under.
I feel sorry for Paul Whitehead, stuck between a rock and hard place, he's a man who gives a **** about everything but seemingly his hands are tied.

Rumours of unpaid bills etc are worrying to say the least. How true the rumours are is anyones guess. Training on the PVR pitch to save money says it all IMO.

I see this as a business decision as much as a footballing one. Falling crowds will directly reduce income, but it will also deter sponsorship. No new deals will go through whilst our future in this league is uncertain.

Then there is confidence, do any of us have the confidence in WF for him to lead the team next season? I doubt it. Equally Id be surprised if some of our better players arent already sounding out opportunities elsewhere.

Its also noted that in his last interview WF was clearly aiming just for the points needed to avoid relegation, if youre aiming low, youll not achieve the heights.

So overall Id vote for a change now, rather than a panic in a couple of months.

I'll take a stab to say that feeney generates income that is valued as being more important at this moment in time alla this this uni USA crap. Feeney himself said they were rich kids. An amercian on twitter said it cost 28k per term to go. Have a look at who is involved with it. I wouldn't be surprised if there are other pregratives at play.

My read of this situation is:

We have new owners, who are comparatively inexperienced, which is a polite way of saying they didn't know what the hell they were doing.

So a guy rocks up full of BIG talk, Big Time Charlie, about how he has played INTERNATIONAL BLOODY FOOTBALL, and has managed at MUCH HIGHER LEVELS, and the new owners, who were comparatively inexperienced, which is a polite way of saying they didn't know what the hell they were doing, think and want to feed off reflected glory, think (totally wrongly, look at Dowson, look at Kutrieb, not star players but they get what this league is all about) "WOW, this guy is so well qualified for the Vanarama South League!".

And they were so DAZZLED by this guy who has played INTERNATIONAL BLOODY FOOTBALL and has managed at MUCH HIGHER LEVELS, that they were too naive and inexperienced to think, "fk, it doesn't really matter what he did as a player, or MUCH HIGHER LEVELS, as that is no longer relevant, as we want him as a manager in the Vanarama South Division, who really understands what is needed at this level. So let's do due diligence, and look closely at what the fkr has actually done as a manager."

And then the due diligence of the track record of sackings and relegations becomes clear.

Which, if they had one that due diligence, would see IT IS NO SURPRISE HE IS LEADING US TO RELEGATION, HE GOT HIS PREVIOUS TEAM PIRIN RELEGATED, 3 WINS FROM THEIR LAST 17 GAMES UNDER HIM and SACKED. Before that Ards, 3 wins from 11 games and sacked. Before that Newport 7 wins from 34 games AND SACKED. He is the Titanic as a manager, not just doing badly, but consistently getting his teams relegated.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT THIS SHOCKING TRACK RECORD THAT THE OWNERS DON'T UNDERSTAND?

A round about way of saying not only should he be sacked, but he should never have got the job in the first place.

LOOK CLOSELY AT HIS TRACK RECORD, THEN NOTHING IS A SURPRISE. www.transfermarkt.com/warren-feeney/leistungsdatenDetail/trainer/35115/plus/0

Look at his recent seasons, not just one great season, but the overall picture, and what happened after that great season. Some people are born winners, others are born losers. Treat everyone like sht, who plays for you, or follows you, guess what happens.

I am being patient, I assume the manager like many of the players is contracted up to the end of the season. When we get to the end of the season everyone who makes the decisions will work out how the season has gone, and if there is enough justification to give the manager, and others, a new contract for next season, or not.

If the decision is made for a change of manager face saving all round can be done, as long as we have stayed up. Just 2 more wins could keep us up, 3 pretty surely would, the club could give thanks and spin a case Warren achieved his goal, of stability, as we have not been in danger of a bottom 2 finish we had the two previous seasons. I don't have that view, but that is a positive spin that could make a departure look better for him and the club.

Sacking the manager now has pluses and minuses. There may be some quality replacements currently unavailable, who'd be free once the season ends, so worth waiting for them so we can select from a bigger pool of candidates. And giving a new guy a fresh start next season, after a pre-season, may be good, as this is a tricky time to take over. But we are in such a slump now more waiting may be a mistake. But it is all still in our hands to stay up.

The early golden August/ September spell of 5 wins from 6 games saved us so far, as we only won 5 of the other 28 games played after. Take those early 15 points off, and we'd be bottom of the table. The owners seem let down by their inexperience and don't realise constant bad results and bad attendances make a decision based on performance rather than only on personal friendship easier, not harder.

Mistakes were made by the board at the beginning of the season which in hindsight are there to see but in all fairness nobody was complaining at the time.

The move to day time training is the first big mistake, we're paying a premium on players wages I.e a player you could get for 300/400pw is wanting 200 or 300 more because he can't work 3 days a week if at all. And it limits who you can and can't sign in the first place.

Then there was the whole business of who is signing the players, it was bull in a china shop/naivety at best. Now hopefully lessons learned and all we're trying to do is see out the season, change direction next season, but we'll see.

All said and done though for what we have paid out we should be doing better and at least playing better football. We are a ridiculously poor side and under the current manager that will not change regardless of any other changes.

I dont want us to just see out the season I want us to get to 50 pts ASAP and then win either or both the senior cups. Then Feeney can leave with the message of 'mission accomplished', stability and silverware!

I like the line from the film Cool Hand Luke that says, "A man has got to know his limitations".

That strikes me about Warren, as I see limitations in his team management, so personally just don't see the necessary football manager skills in him, the necessary connection with fans, the tactical skills to turn games our way, and the poor results in role after role speak for themselves.

But in other areas apart from actual first team management Warren has many qualities that would benefit us to keep. I talked to a player ages ago, asking why they had joined us, and he told me he had been impressed by the vision Warren and the owner gave of our future direction. So Warren has that side fans won't see, of helping attract players. He has a big network of football contacts, and that is invaluable, as we have had lots of really good loan signings we may not have got otherwise. I am not sure if Myles was here through Warren, but Myles saves must have been worth lots of saved points this season, and we'd be bottom 4 without them. So football contacts for loans is important.

The international focus of the club to Ireland and the US is also an area Warren can help in, as he has obvious links with Ireland. I remember we played a friendly he had to miss as he was scouting for a player, and being able to concentrate on player recruitment, and leave the managing of the actual playing side to someone else is actually a wise move, as management is so short term, most roles lasting a year or less, so a sideways move has more stability.

The league manager who most impressed me this season was Paul Doswell of Havant, his pre match interview before playing us showed a fantastic understanding of our club, our players, our training, our fan base. They were top 2 until December, and top 3 until March, then suddenly fell apart, 6 losses, 2 draws and only 2 wins from their last 10 games, and now in 6th place, just 3 points above 8th team, so not even sure of a play off spot, and results haven't improved with the new manager. In an interview a few weeks back he said he was stepping back from doing interviews, as he has done them so many years he wanted to give someone else a chance. Then a week or so later it was announced he was stepping down totally as manager, to hand it to a player being groomed for the manager role. He is still staying with the club, as they clearly value his expertise, but it is good that they have shown that flexibility, rather than just sack him for a bad run of results, say goodbye and lose all he can offer.

So a sideways step for Warren, out of the manager role, and into a more general one, is best for all. There is that saying in football that the one thing guaranteed in football management is the sack, and that is so true. So the clever people in football understand it is better to be in roles that aren't dependent on results from players one can't rely on, as sooner or later all teams have bad spells, and the manager gets all the blame. As a manager there are so many gaps in our manager, but positives too, I was so impressed with his commitment to us that he shared in the fans forum, the impact this team has on his family life, and having a role where he can have more family time, not tied down to training three times a week, would be a good outcome for him and the club.

But as a manager, our form of 5 league wins in 6 months October onwards is amazingly bad, the buck has to stop somewhere.

JH

It is pretty well known and reported on both National and South forums that Doswell has had a 12 match ban imposed by the F.A. This follows an altercation with the Ebbsfleet manager in 2021. It took the F.A. over a year for the case to be heard. According to reports Mr Doswell is alleged to have call the Ebbsfleet manager a German rude word.

One of the moments about this season that still makes me laugh is Stefan getting sent off for calling the ref a (and I quote) a "f-cking c-nt", as by now Stefan should know that isn't the right sort of thing to say to a ref.

But looking into Doswell and Kutrieb's rwo, Stefan's frank view on the ref is actually quite mild to what those two came up with, press coverage revealed:

"Now details of the regulatory commission which heard Doswells case have been published on the FA website. The investigation was prompted by the assistant referee's report on the incident.

The commission heard that it was alleged in or around the 42nd minute the assistant referee heard Doswell imitating Kutrieb saying unbelievable man in a German accent and then called him a t***.

It was claimed by Doswell in his defence that Kutrieb responded by saying Im going to f*** your mother to which Doswell replied that his mother was dead. Doswell then called Kutrieb a German c*** and as matters became heated the word c*** could be heard several times.

In Kutriebs initial observations on February 17, 2021, the commission noted that there was no mention of the remark about Doswells mother.

On February 25, 2021, Doswell admitted calling Kutrieb a German c*** on a number of occasions and said it was in the heat of the moment because of comments about his mother, whom he had not seen for nine months owing to the pandemic.

Doswell expressed regret at his own actions but observed that he had never before been spoken to in such a way in all of his years in football.

On November 6, 2021, Kutrieb said that Doswell stated f*** you and f*** you, you silly c*** and that he responded by saying Your mother is a silly c***. Doswell then began to insult him by reference to his German nationality."

Warren's pre-match interview for Weymouth is even funnier than the above talk, but I'll save the comments for that thread once it is up. Warren is deadpan comedy gold though, able to say hilarious nonsense with a totally straight face. One does wonder though if Doswell will magically reappear as manager in 12 matches time. OMG, so might Warren!

Last season 3 wins from 10 games for 30% win rate.

This season 10 wins from 37 games for an even worse 27% win rate

Combined 13 wins from 47 games 27% win rate, which would see him sacked in any other club.

3 goals in the last 7 games.

3 points in the last 7 games.

And a fraud who says this isn't a crisis, and that we are in a fantastic position. And a board who trusts the fraud.

I thought over the situation after the Weymouth game, and realised, for the first time, the problem is he calls himself a football manager, but isn't, as he doesn't manage problems, he avoids them, so they don't get fixed, so keep repeating. That is why our results have been so bad for 6 months, as he doesn't make changes.

Our disciplinary record is atrocious, 11 red cards in 37 games, so for 10 games we have been a player short (as 2 went off in one game), and that will have had an impact on results in those games and lost us lots of precious points. And countless suspensions from accumulated bookings, which again impact results. And the manager has done nothing to fix the discipline, just turns a blind eye to it, as it is too difficult for him to deal with, as he is not an effective man manager.

The opposition know how we will play, as we are so predictable, he has his favourite players, fringe players dont get a chance to regularly play. So it is pretty much the same team put out, which was fine when we won in August and September, but when we have been losing for 6 months after things clearly need to be shaken up long ago, different formations, players playing in different positions. Big decisions are needed but he is unable to make them.

Anyone but Warren can see the shape of the team is wrong, too many players staying back, not enough going forward, he is a defensive minded manager, all about holding on to a point, rather than being committed to going for 3. If we are up a goal, or level, he mistakenly will usually take a striker off to put on an extra defender. But then we aren't attacking any more, so then just defend for the rest of the match, and and if other sides keep attacking eventually they will score, as shown by all the late goals we concede. Loads of precious points lost from that weak mentality of his.

He can't see any of this, which is why a new manager who can see the problems is needed, as the new manager can then fix the problems. He was sacked from his last 3 managerial positions with his team in relegation spots after long runs of poor results, he isnt just an average mid table manager, he is an actual disaster for his teams, and the way things are going with Welling he will have another relegated team on his CV.

The one thing unclear is what the hell the owners see in him, it clearly isnt football related.

Im surprised to find that I feel defensive for WF. After the yellow card he didnt go defensive but kept playing for the win, right up to the end. Yes weve not been getting many results lately, and yes our disciplinary record is terrible. But in many games luck just hasnt been with us. Hes had to deal with injuries and suspensions, a run of Saturday / Tuesday games that must have put a strain on everyone and limited his time with players to change things.

Changing managers will only work if the change is for the better, who is available anyway?

Our form is so bad it is hard to imagine a caretaker manager for the last few games could do worse. I believe luck evens out over a season, so hopefully in our remaining games we will have an opponent set off, so for once we can have a player advantage.

I tried to work out just how much of a mess are we in, by looking at the remaining fixtures of the bottom 7 teams, to see who had the easiest/ hardest fixtures, to see if a final table could be roughly predicted. But at this stage of the season it is so unpredictable, Chippenham and Hampton somehow have managed to win 4 in a row to pull away from trouble, which one could never have forecast, and the top 3 have each only won 2 of their last 5 games, so this is a weird time of the season, especially with teams having 2 games a week for weeks on end, which will stretch squads and produce odd results.

The bottom 7 have broadly similar sets of fixtures. The only thing that strikes as a clear difference is how many matches they play against bottom 7 sides, as these help us as one or both teams drop points. Here is that breakdown in descending order

Welling 1/9
Dulwich 4/8
Taunton 5/13
Cheshunt 2/8
Hungerford 3/9
Weymouth 3/9
Concord 3/13

That 1 match of ours is at home to Taunton on Tuesday, after which every other match we have is against higher teams. So an absolutely massive game to win, as when we lose to a higher team it is a nuisance, but lose to a lower team and they close the gap on us. So Dulwich and Taunton look in trouble with so many games with lower teams, and Concord and Taunton having 2 games a week pretty much for the rest of the season.

Someone mentioned 50 points should be enough for safety, but in recent seasons a point a match is enough for safety, so we would need 46 points this season to achieve that and hope it is enough. We are on 42 points, so 3 points for a win on Tuesday may turn out to be enough to keep us up, even if we then got 0 points in all the games after. For me at least it all revolves around the Taunton game, get nothing from that and I can see us eventually overtaken by enough teams below us to relegate us, a draw or a win for us stops Taunton closing the gap on us. The key thing is no red cards for us, we start games so well, but red cards shoot us in the foot. But I remember what we did against Maidstone last season in a key game, so know we can do that again on Tuesday if we avoid our mistakes. Soon to find if it ends a happy walk home on Tuesday or a quiet shocked oh fk walk home.

Should Feeney be sacked?

This is the conversation we were having months ago. WF has majorly outstayed his welcome and the sooner hes out of our club the better. Very, very worrying looking at the league table. I cant see where the points are coming from.

In no way should Warren Feeney be sacked. Our away record is good and we have chances in both Kent and London Senior cups. We are close to the points we need to stay up. A change could be a disaster this late in the season. Warren Feeney kept us in this league last season. Has everyone forgotten that? Every year we change manager and have a completely new squad. That hasn't work. We need continuity and stability. All managers must be given a chance to build their teams there is no overnight fix. It is impossible to go from just staying up to winning the league the following season. Warren won the league in Bulgaria in his last job. He has many football contacts and has secured some very good loan signings. Roberts, Powell, Lyons Foster and Gavin to name a few. You won't find another manager who is more passionate and cares so much. He is committed and wants to win as much as we do.

What if the majority get their way and Warren Feeney is sacked and a new manager comes in and he too struggles with yet another completely new squad. Do we sack him too and yet again start again. That is proven not to work. We have to nail our colours to one mask and stick with it. Look at Ferguson at Man. United and Arteta at Arsenal. Patience won the day. I am nailing my colours to the Warren Feeney mask. I 100% support him. He has given up a lot for Welling United. His family life in Northern Ireland. He could easily have said at the end of last season. I kept you up, job done. Thank and goodbye but he didn't he stayed with us, even though we lost our best player Dipo Akinyemi. He showed us loyalty, we owe it to Warren to show that loyal back. Have some faith. Support, cheer, encourage and stick together. United we stand, divided we fall.

Over the past 25 games - so roughly half a season - we have picked up 24 points, that's the joint worst return of any team in the league. We've won 4 times at home this season and only once since New Year, that is not down to the atmosphere at PVR, it is because the players aren't good enough and the tactics are s***. I'm all for giving managers time when they deserve it. Warren won three games last season to keep us up and I am very grateful to him for that, however, that does not give him a free pass to send us down this season! We have a very, very tough run-in with only Taunton being in the bottom 7. We don't need too many more points to stay up but lose on Tuesday and I can't see us winning any of our remaining fixtures. WF has been given the biggest budget of any manager in the history of the club and as much as he likes to bang on about progress, we are still in a relegation fight and still playing anti-football except this time we are paying a fortune for the pleasure! If this season's performance is used as justification for giving him a new contract then I will no longer have faith in the board to run this club competently and will not renew my season ticket - and I'm not the only one who thinks like this.

This season has so many inconsistencies, so for each plus there is a negative.

Good away record, but only won 4 league games at home. Still in two cups after winning 1 round and 2 rounds, but knocked out of 2 other more money making cups early after winning 1 round in each. Close to the points we need, but recent form makes getting the points we need a real challenge. We all remember he kept us in the league as he has been living off that fact all season long. Yes, we need managerial stability after too many changes, but he has twice built his team, and 13 wins from 47 games, from teams he has assembled, tell the value of sticking or twisting. Yes, he won the league in Bulgaria, then left next season after winning 3/17 games. His contacts are unarguable, and valuable, the reason why he should stay in the club in a non first team managerial capacity. His drive is impressive, the team could easily be demoralised by now, but he has fixed that burst balloon thing that happened to us when we let in a goal, and every single player still put in their max effort game after game.

A new manager will have new ideas, new tactics, new solutions.

One of the most revealing ideas about football this year was Roy Keane saying managers are brought in to fix things. It's short term work, not long term, for most football managers. In most jobs people work for the same employer for many years, but football is short term, it is often just go in, make a quick impact and fix things, then move onto the next fixing job when one has problems in ones current role one can't fix, so need someone else to come in to fix them. So on this basis Warren was clearly a success last season, as he fixed the mess of the two managers before him that season, and kept us up. This season has turned into a broken mess. But the strange thing is in our recent games we have played well, finally getting enough guys forward when we attack, and just the stupid sendings off have given us bad results that stop the better performances and better shape going forward from being clearer.

Steve King was given the biggest budget and yes it was the best team I've seen in my time but ultimately we failed and stayed in National league South. Last year was horrible but we stayed in National league South. I think a change with 9 games to go is too dangerous. Yes I agree we need to win at home to Taunton but I really believe just 9 more points. I think Bath, Eastbourne and Hampton at home are winnable too and maybe Ebbsfleet because like Maidstone last year they may be champions by then and coasting. Chippenham and Dover away I think are winnable. Please support the team inspire them and let's have the debate afterwards

I am definitely a believer in long term managers. I know a lot of clubs change for impact and a quick fix. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. A lot of clubs with stability work better in my opinion. The manager understands the club and what it wants. I use Manchester United, Arsenal, Folkestone Invicta, Sutton United, Havant & Waterlooville and even Dartford as clubs that have used that model to generate success. I remember the pre-season before last away at Folkestone after we had been beaten easily by a club below us. One of their fans said to me 'what did you expect, we are a team that has played together for a number of years, you are a team of individuals'. Made me stop and think. If you guys win and Warren Feeney is sacked either this season or in the summer. I will be sorely disappointed but please give the next manager full support and not call for another quick change. I didn't want Peter Taylor sacked I thought he did the best he could with a zero budget. I personally would give any manager 3 years. Year 1 fix the problems. Year 2 build your team. Year 3 achieve your ambition.

I don't always think we pick the right team or rate all the players or even the tactics or formation but what I always do is support all the players that are wearing the shirt of the club I support because in that moment I want them to do well, prove me wrong and get the result. As a supporter my role is to encourage the team. If a player is having a bad game rather then boo or criticise them I will cheers and hopefully motivate them to do better. The worst thing you can do in any workplace is destroy someone's confidence it makes things worse. Your team is your team it's in the blood. You support them win, lose or draw. that's my philosophy. Otherwise we would all support Manchester City, Wrexham or Ebbsfleet United wouldn't we?
