Someone here joked I am a wannabe journalist, which amused me as it was wide of the mark, as I would be shot by any editor for being so wordy! For me it is just all about talking about things to understand them better and bouncing ideas around.
All the loan players really caught me out, some weeks ago I came late to a game, so when a new loan player came off and was substituted by another new loan player my son asked me who was going off and who was coming on, I didnt know them, and only found out later from the fab match reports it was Alexander off and Gavin on. So my match report "Welling made a substitution" wouldn't have passed any editor! Moral: leave reporting to the experts.
The relevance to this match report thread is the Welling commentary dropped out, so I briefly tuned in to the opposition radio commentary, and it was so poor, he had no idea of our players, nearly everything for us was described by him as "a Welling player", and his commentary was very dull, more like just normal talking. Then Radio Wings came back on, with Nigel's dramatic delivery, getting the opposition players names spot on, unlike the opponent's commentary.
While mentioning this, also Gavin's interviews are so good now, football management is actually really tough, interviews now really reflect the realities, injuries, problems the team has to deal with, a really honest reflection, which helps one understand and have sympathy for some difficult things the manager has to deal with.
Mark's match reports are important too, two thirds of the back page of a recent News Shopper had a big picture of Welling players celebrating a goal and match report, so the important work done on keeping a high profile for the club is great, and a long gone ill considered churlish comment by my former not so good self about report whitewashing should be fully discounted!
