Sometimes there are footie things I posted here and tacked onto other threads, often match threads, but knew they didn't really belong there, (and others pointed that out more than once!) as they weren't connected with the thread, but I couldn't see where else to post them as they weren't big enough to open as a separate thread,.

But using a general football thread gives orphan posts from me and everyone else a home!

So kicking off, some fool here said it was suspicious we have run short of money. Oh. Actually, it was me. Since then I read an article online about another club who ran into massive money problems due to the massive increase in fuel bills, £10,000+ higher fuel bills than scheduled for, and unexpectedly higher bills in general. I know we started the season with a carefully calculated budget, but these price increases will have been unforeseeable, so hats off to our board for navigating these unexpected financial demands.

Secondly, there is a great film called Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait, 17 cameras filming Zidane playing a game. It shows how he is always looking around, seeing where the players are, so when he gets the ball he already has the vision of what to do, whereas average players don't have that vision, so don't already know what to do when the ball reaches them.

There is a similar film of George Best, 8 camera on him in a 1970 match against Coventry. There IS a Welling connection here, George Best played at PVR in a Charlton player testimonial. The film is worth a watch, first half he is disappointing, walking around, watching the game, not really involved. But the second half is better, he must have been told at half time to be more involved, and he scores a great goal, and then assists Bobby Charlton for a goal  (it isn't clear if Charlton scored from a rebound from a Best shot, or if Best passed directly to Charlton). And you see his hard tackles, and the tackles he got, and his sprinting speed, and whether he wore shins pads (I was surprised), great passes, bad passes, so it shows the best and worst of him, the real match player, in a way highlights don't show, quiet game - apart from scoring a great goal and creating another goal. YouTube Football As Never Before (George Best Filmed for 90 Mins) 1970 Football As Never Before (George Best Filmed for 90 Mins) 1970 - YouTube

This thread can now be the home for the transcript of Jamison's drunken talk with Dowse! Honestly, just wait til you read what he said to him!

I remember when I was in the Sudan in early 50s. We were holding the fuzzy wuzzies away from our ammunition dump which was pretty damn dangerous. Corporal Sammy squatter mudrew said to me we need to call for the reserve force to reinforce our defences. I agreed. I sent a runner over to the communication post to get the message out. Unfortunately the head of comms a lieutenant Wazza Feeney completely misunderstood the message and failed to bring in the reinforcements instead he decided to drop our defences further back. Consequently we found ourselves overrun and our defences were breached and we lost the battle. During his court marshal Wazza Feeney blamed everybody except himself He was let off with a reprimand whilst myself a Sammy Mudrew were drummed out of the regiment and forfeited our pensions.

Thanks for your contribution Riverhead. Hope you are having a happy and peaceful Easter.

Just to explain a bit more clearly, I was struck by the Havant collapse, and mentioned it somewhere on this forum, and there was an enlightening talk about their manager, which made me see him and the Ebbsfleet manager in a different light. But god knows where those are if I want to re-read them again, as they were tacked onto other threads, whereas if there is a general thread they would be on that, and so easy to find. Same with really interesting non match related posts from other posters. Hope the explanation helps.

I looked at the programme the other day, and was struck to see Stefan last scored in November, and has not scored in the 12 games he has played since then. It made me think about how our midfield have scored so little this season - regular midfielders James 0 goals, Amadou 1 goal, Antony 1 goal, Medy 0 goals, and few assists between them. Taylor M is the only productive scoring midfielder, with 10 goals, and several assists. That lack of midfield support, that has never been recognised by the manager or addressed, is what has cost us this season.

Steve King and the Dartford manager have recently been at our games, and part of that will be vultures, looking to see which of our players are worth trying to pick off. It is why watching our last few games this season is a bit sad, as lots of these guys, who have done their best all season handicapped under hopeless management, will be gone next season. And that will be disappointing, as the fans can tell who the best players are, and it will be annoying that other teams will be benefiting from their skills instead of us, as we have a striker, a midfielder and a misplaced defender who could walk into any team in this division.

JH, you have slipped up, you should have just called it the "the JH thread" and then we could all just pass it by.

If you recall, I did ask about the possibility of a sticky thread just for JH at the top...polo might sort it out but I'm guessing right now he's having a great day out on the beer spoilt by 90mind of watching football.

Correct and welcome to you Chicken Wing, in fact it has been mentioned and commented upon in today's match day thread!

They say it is the hope that kills you, and I know this is two big ifs, but I have just realised, IF we beat Eastbourne on Monday, and IF Cheshunt lose to Worthing, we would then be 9 points ahead of Cheshunt (in effect 10 with our better goal difference), with just 4 games to go.

So they would then need to win all 4 of their remaining games (which isn't likely), and us to lose all our last 4 (which I wouldn't put past Warren to achieve!) for them to overtake us.

In short, we could almost be safe on Monday if the two results go our way.

Shouldn't this topic been in the off topic section?

My mistake, I didn't know this Off Topic thread was on the site. Thanks for moving it here.
