I wonder why we were able to put in great home performances against the top three but had no motivation or effort when playing teams near the bottom.
Feeney probably will be staying next season now.
Good performance in the second half but frustrating that we can do that today but not most of the season. Again Payne played well and kept himself out of the refs book. If only we has seen more of that this season. Crowd got behind the team. I know Ebbsfleet had already won the league but can't help thinking they have a massive step up like a lot of teams now.
What a lovely experience it was exiting the ground today with the very sporting Eurostar supporters. How generous they were in defeat in calling our players cheating C U Next TuesdayS. complimenting us on our **** hole of a ground and generally being polite sorry abusive to our players and the officials as they left the pitch. Dartford are a pain in the arse but never scum. Gravesend and Eurofleet were absolute whining miserable ****s. Theyve won the league Christ only knows what they would have been like if the game had meant something to them.
Luck evens itself out over a season, we had many games where we had lots of early chances, that we didn't put away, which allowed the other side to take the game away from us. This game was reversed, they had lots of first half chances they didn't put away, we could well have let in 3 first half goals, but that inaccuracy of theirs kept us in the game, so instead of this being a gallant 3 - 4 defeat, we won! But it was so full of action I will need to see the highlights to make sense of it all, as it looked like we should have had 2 penalties.
I was really looking forward to seeing Ebbsfleet play, as they are 18 points clear at the top, nearly double our points this season, so I wanted to see what was it they do that makes that difference that makes them better than us. The result hides the difference, but they were miles ahead of us technically, they pass to feet, and attack in numbers, Warren lumps high balls for our few attacking players to run to. They had tons of players available as options to pass to, we are lucky if we have one guy in a dangerous position to pass to.
Darren McQueen is a player who always impressed me, I wish he was in our side as he has lots of things we lack, and as a football fan it was so enjoyable to watch him play. Well done Chi for keeping him relatively under control, as McQueen is so mobile he is impossible to mark all match. The great thing about sport is it always gives one the chance to answer back, so Stefan's hattrick must be some of the most satisfying goals he's scored.
We didn't win this on luck, it was a sound team effort, the guys are clearly sick of underperforming, so they are going out with their heads held high in this and some recent games since James gave the interview and leadership actually acknowledging our weaknesses, and underperformance for 15/16 games, so they could be fixed.
The Welling highlights didn't show the possible penalty incidents, so I'll never know if we were robbed of 2 goals.
The Maidstone managers interview after we beat them at the end of last season was so funny, as he was such a bad loser, tons of excuses including putting the loss down to a bad pitch, us using the long ball to score our goals. The Ebbsfleet manager has gone to the same school of post match explanation, saying about losing to us Its not good enough because against this team you dont need to concede three goals as you could see there was nothing apart from set pieces. You need to defend them better, what we havent done". Hmm, maybe the Havant manager had a point about Kuttrieb. But most likely the Ebbsfleet manager is just sick of us, as we've had a win and a draw against them in the league, and knocked them out of a cup. The first half was rocky, but we matched them well all over the pitch in the second half, arguably defended better than them in the match, so to hell with the sour guy!
Well done Welling United on beating Ebbsfleet United and remaining unbeaten in 3 games against them. We really deserved to win all 3 but 2 will do
Congratulations to Stefan Payne on his hat trick
Congratulations to Warren Feeney on winning National League South Manager of the week. Improving the team from last season and proving the doubters wrong in keeping Welling United in NLS with games to spare. I always thought it wrong to change the manager with so few games remaining.
Congratulations to Chi Ezennolim for his much deserved awards
That's not what Alan said in fairness. We've definitely looked a better team these last few games, Dover aside. Not every post needs to look at Warren's childhood, second guess the mood in the changing room and predict crowds in single figures.
