Now that next seasons prices have been announced and frozen from last season. Thank you. I thought it a good time to look forward.
Firstly, Thank you to all the Welling United players for the season and congratulations on keeping us in National League South. It was a terrific end to the season with some good results and performances.
As you all know I have always been firmly in the Warren Feeney camp and was confident he would obtain the points we needed to stay up. I am pleased I was proved right.
There have been problems on and off the pitch this season but I hope lessons have been learnt. I am still a fan of stability and hope the current regime and management stay in place. Keeping a core of the players if we can. I do think a clear the air meeting with a representation from both sides. Club and supporters to voice their opinions and views and find common ground in a calm and civilised manner would be a good idea. Especially, now the red mist has cleared. I think there have been mistakes made on both sides.
Whether the existing set up continues or there is a completely new structure at the club I hope everyone sticks together and supports the team and club on and off the field to become Welling REUNITED. Then we can push to achieve the best we are capable of.
It has broken my heart to see friends arguing amongst themselves. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion if expressed in the correct way. I hope to see all of you next season. Take care and have a nice summer
Odin, the funny thing is there are lots of posts here longer than mine, and often less on topic than mine.
The reason I asked Alan is I see the problems equally split between the owners mistakenly appointing a guy who lacks the specialist experience of this division, and the manager who doesn't get the best as a result.
The Cheshunt manager gave a really interesting interview the other day, looking back at the season, after they were relegated. I looked at their results, they lost 10 of their first 12, then only lost 8 of their last 22, so improved as the season went on once he realised his team that started the season wasn't effective enough, so changes were needed. But by then the damage of all the early lost points was too much to overcome. He said he knew about our division from having played in it before, but it has improved tremendously in the last few years. So we were in a similar position, except we did nothing for 6 months while our results collapsed.
Now how any of this can be blamed on fans is a mystery, fans respond to the mistakes of the board and manager, but don't make those mistakes in the first place. The fans were remarkably patient for many months, far too patient in my view, it was only when attendances collapsed and reduced numbers attending made it very clear changes were needed that the players and so called manager decided to try something new, like pushing up in numbers, giving each other options in the pitch, and actually playing to win each ball. So waiting for Alan to explain what fans should have done better and how they are responsible for underperformance for most of the season, reduced attendances, hostile match day behaviour from club officials, worst disciplinary record in the league and the other areas as usual he turns a blind eye towards, as he just comes across as a voice piece of the board and manager.
In reply to Johnny I will bullet point what I think were the errors on both sides.
The club
Poor communication (Should be more updates on social media, match programme and meet and greet events)
Not changing players and system when things started going wrong after a good start.
Not having plan B Options during matches if we were losing.
Appointing someone not qualified to sit on the bench
Reacting to the bad behaviour in the wrong way.
The Supporters.
Abusing players during matches rather than supporting and encouraging them (Evident in that our away record was better than home record)
Thinking that paying admission and having too much to drink gives the right to be abusive and rude to players and staff of Welling United
Fighting among ourselves
Disgraceful behaviour at home to Taunton Town
Worse, behaviour at Dover Athletic and Havant & Waterlooville, what must these clubs think of us? (The other season many supporters of away teams were telling me Torquay United were horrible and they didn't want to play them again. I don't want that said about Welling United)
My final thoughts are the club is improving in that we now have a strong ladies team. A good U23 team, which may source players and our 1st team was an improvement on the team the previous season, finished higher and with more games to spare. I prefer to look at glass half full than glass half empty. The manager thought the long ball was the best way for our team to play that is subject to opinion. Don't like it myself, but he is working with them every day so I trust the manager to know best. Moving Manny Parry to holding midfield was a master stroke. He excelled in that position. Our defence was really strong. The problem was we couldn't score goals. How many clubs say that up and down the leagues? I like Warren Feeney and I've always wanted him to stay. There are other good managers out there. King, McKimm, Saunders, Allinson to name a few. Only the owners really know what is affordable and practical or possible. The key thing to remember is owners, managers and players come and go. Supporters are constant. Yes, we can stay away if we don't like a particular regime but really we don't have the power to change it. It will evolve but you can't please all of the people all of the time. My belief is you support your team through thick and thin. It isn't blind loyalty, it is knowing things do change. There have been owners, players, managers that I've like more than others but ultimately, Welling United come first.

Dont usually get involved when it comes to these matters as it can get very emotive. But I went to many home games and even more away games this season than I have ever been to. Can only think of one player that has had comments or as you call abuse aimed at him and that was Payne. I believe he deserved the amount of criticism he was getting due to the number of disciplinary issues that often swayed the result of a game.
Luckily he turned it round towards the end of the season and turned out to be one of our best players (IMO). I would honestly love to know of other players that have received abuse from fans? A lot of the more hearty comments have been aimed at Warren and his friend in the dugout (not Cox).
Appreciate I have not been to all the games and maybe busy shouting during the game to notice some more targeted comments aimed at other players.
When you say fighting amongst ourselves do you mean just disagreements or actual violence? Because of it is just disagreements then that will never stop and never want it to. I have a good group of people I go with home and away every week and we almost always have differences in opinions on players, management burger van etc
Seem to lay the blame at the fans door with regards to Taunton, I almost laughed at that one
I was beginning to wonder if we needed to send out a search party for the disappeared Alan, so it is good to see all is well, as I thought he had been moved to a padded cell due to his insane support of the manager!
I agree the point about not changing things enough when behind. Last season we fell behind 21 times, then W2 D2 L17, which is not good enough and shows the lack of tactical flexibility needed to turn things round.
As I sit on the opposite side of the pitch I am not particularly affected by Jayke Winchester, but after I saw he looked me up on LinkedIn I wondered who he is, and saw he has a caged fight on YouTube, which puts a lot of his behaviour on the bench into context, watch it and you'll get a clearer idea about the guy.
I don't see where this alleged fans abuse of players comes from, I've not seen or heard it, quite the opposite, fans have been remarkably patient and supportive of the players, as the fans can see the problems come from the manager, and the board not responding to those problems.
The "away record better than our home record" is something Alan has said several times, but it doesn't hold up to closer inspection. www.thenationalleague.org.uk/match-info/tables Home P 23 W8 D5 L10 points 29 Away P23 W7 D9 L7 points 30, so won 1 more game at home, got 1 more point away, so we were pretty equal home and away.
The bias towards the boards viewpoint means Alan isn't looking at causes of the issues he raises. Fans respond to issues, not create them, whereas the manager and board create the issues. So fans voice their frustrations, which is fine, as everyone is entitled to have a view, then club officials respond by challenging the fans to a fight! Then the club tries to hide this behaviour of their officials. In other clubs the officials involved would have been charged with bringing the game into disrepute, so blaming this on the fans is inaccurate thinking.
Alan is a bit starry eyed, and doesn't see these are just people doing their job, and like everywhere else, some do their job well, others don't. So why blindly trust the manager to know best? He's just like everyone, doing a job. It is a results business, clearly results showed he didn't know best. Yes, he will see much more of the players than fans, but what does he actually do with that knowledge to get the best out of the squad? Yes, we had problems we didn't score enough goals, and drew too often, but the answers were obvious, and often given here on the forum by many fans, and it was only when those things said all along by people more knowledgeable than the manager were correctly done in the last 8 games that we actually fully performed.
Individually fans can't affect too much, but collectively fans do.
Historically abuse towards the manager was worse with Hales and Smith than with warren.Fans hung up Hales Out and Smith out banners. You stood outside the changing rooms shouting abuse (not me of course Im a saint)
Never understood the level of animosity towards Hales - they were halcyon days for me in a way even if he stayed a season too long perhaps - we were at least in the Conference proper and had some terrific players during that era - far better than last season's on the whole!
Compared with some of Feeney's antics Hales was a saint!
