According to FA website our pyoung wings beat chips and ham 3-0 tonight Final table sees them in second place to Aldershot just 1 point behind the league leaders. Congratulations to them all for their effort this season.  Often see them at my local shops as the train and play just a few minutes walk from my home. Seem to be a nice bunch hope to see some in first team soon.

I won't renew my season ticket as I don't want to keep supporting Warren's delusion he is a successful football manager, rather than a below average one with a track record of being released by 3 of his last 4 jobs with them in relegation trouble at the time of his departure, and I think Welling will be the latest victims of this next season.

So I went to see the u23 game last night, thinking it may be interesting to watch them next season instead of the first team. It was the first time I've seen our u23 team play, and after all the toxic nonsense that accompanies Warren it was really refreshing to see a totally positive Welling game. The spectators were very positive and supportive, I'd guess lots are friends and family of the players, but a really nice happy atmosphere, exactly what going to a match should feel like. The football was fine, the Welling players so full of enthusiasm and energy they showed off their skills with flicks and tricks, but they weren't showboating, but using their skills to make space for themselves, and I was laughing at times, as it was so enjoyable and fun to watch, as well as enjoying the quality, and confidence that young players have.

Our number 5 in defence was the standout player to me, great vision in distribution from the back. Very clinical finishing in our goals, and we defended really well, Chippenham hardly had any clear shots. There were no poor players. The manager Reece was giving constructive advice and support to the players during the game, which again was a refreshing change to see from Warren's tantrums at his players.

Watching the u23 team was a really good experience, if you haven't seen them play I'd really recommend you catch a game, as I am sure several will go on to play for our first team, as they all played with lots of football intelligence, and I will be keen to see more of the u23s as it was a really good game of football and really promising for Welling to produce a young competitive team like this.

Sounds like a very successful season. Look forward to seeing some of them pushing into the first team.

I went into this match not knowing anything about the team other than they were second in their league. The table that Welling68 has put up is so helpful, as it shows just how much of an achievement this season that is, as I also only realised after this game this squad was only formed at the start of the season, against several teams higher up the pyramid (Aldershot, Maidstone, Bromley, Woking) so to only lose twice all season, especially when starting off the season so comparatively inexperienced, is really impressive.

U23 players slotted in neatly into first team cup games last season, so it will be a refreshing change to watch U23 games next season, as I was thinking they would have given our first team a real run for their money if playing against them, as I like the way Reece clearly tells his players to go out and express themselves, and it was great seeing the fun they were having out there, instead of it all being a bit of a slog, as some teams end up playing.

In the U23 game I saw, the first half was very even, then in the second half it was a total change, we scored early, and controlled the second half. I heard one of our fans joking that the opposition half time team talk must have been really bad, which was funny, as the game changed so much after half time.

But I had a chat at the subsequent womens game with a Welling coach who was also at the U23 game, who I'd noticed took notes during that U23 game, and he told me some things he had commented on in the half time team talk that we could focus on exploiting in the opposition, which areas to pressurise more. Looking back I saw he was right, to be honest I hadn't spotted those myself, and getting those things right in the second half may well have been the difference between the two halves and turned the result our way. It's always been a reservation I have about our manager, he doesn't often turn games round if we fall behind.
