Charlie walker and Mitch Dickinson I reckon, or even Chris whelpdale They had a really good lad from Palace on loan last year so maybe we can get a couple too.
I spoke to a Langney Sports supporter last season asking about Charlie Walker's absence from the team and was told that he is past his best. The year before last they had Charley Kendall on loan from QPR and he was outstanding. That suggests that he has an eye for good loanees (or has a good advisor).
Some teams in our Division have a massive headstart over us as they have retained tons of players, so already have settled teams, while each confirmed departure from us makes it look increasingly likely we are doing another near total rebuild.
So it is quite possible we'll have a mixed season, slow start while gelling, then a much stronger second half, and then hit our stride next season with a more settled side, as one of the great things about this appointment is players like playing for him, so play for more than one season.
Good managers dont suddenly go bad, so it will be nice if we get a good start, but in the circumstances (less than 3 weeks until our first preseason games and only 5 players so far confirmed onboard) a poor start would be understandable.
Spoke to the new manager this morning, going to be meeting up once he's settled in for a podcast interview, he seems a really nice bloke who's very keen to engage with supporters
Welcome Mr Bloor, and to all who sail with you. Wishing the best of luck for 23/24. I am sure you will secure the return of many lost causes, such as myself. Hopefully the shell shock of 22/23 soon subsides. Onward and upward, good luck!
A funny things about football is how it often lacks transparency, last season took a funny surreal twist, where it seemed each match it was some club official's turn to play "Fight the Fans!", or fans singing interesting career suggestions for the manager, yet never a word of that chaos came out in the press.
Danny has been a victim of the same sort of thing. I looked at the Eastbourne fans forum to get an idea of how they saw him, as fans can see things more clearly than anyone else, and I knew nothing about him so wanted to find out more. It was really helpful, giving a much more accurate view of things than was publicised, where the official story was he had been replaced as he was resistant to using stats to base player recruitment on.
The fans had a much clearer view of things, and saw it more simply matter of the new owner coming in, and wanting to bring a new manager in. That is standard in football, as then they can influence the new manager more easily than they could a long established one. But the unsavoury side is Eastbourne didn't come out and say any of this was the reason for the managerial change, they misleadingly came up with the "stats" explanation. As the fans put two and two together, judging by the speed with which Dorking (which is where Danny Bloor's replacement came from) sorted out a new manager, the owner's decision to replace Danny Bloor had been made a long time ago.
So knowing all this, the Eastbourne fans were really disappointed to be losing their manager, as he had got them 3rd, 6th, 8th in the last 3 seasons on a comparatively small budget, and played attractive football and significantly increased attendances. It was striking no fans were glad he had gone, which in such an opinionated world as football reflects really impressively on him. If I'd been treated like that after being so effective for so long I'd be furious, but he's a better man than me in that respect, and gave a really impressive interview about his departure "REACTION: Former Eastbourne Borough manager Danny Bloor on his departure from Priory Lane" www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0fsj7sq
So we really have been lucky to get him due to another club owner's misstep.
Great to have Danny Bloor on board - yay, a manager who likes fans and values a healthy relationship with them! Anyone remember those days?
Sounds like he has an excellent track record and as JH says above, I can't find a single Eastbourne fan who is pleased to see him leave.
Compare and contrast to those poor souls at Glentoran who have been condemned to the fan hating, arrogant moron and a season of watching 70 yard long balls flying into no man's land
Feels like I step foot back in the club again - hopefully all those associated with Feeney's reign of terror including his new 'life mate' and 'little soldier' Mr Skippy have all slung their collective hook too.
With Eastbourne announcing their going full time today, with some relative big names coming soon - I'd assume many Borough players who were preparing to be at Boro next season, will now not be. I'd also assume Bloor is on the Blower.
I was impressed with Welling's positive announcement of Warren's departure, all sorts of bad things could have been said, but no, it was a public dignified closing of the chapter, not damaging any reputations.
That is why in comparison Eastbourne's behaviour was so bad, their announcement of Danny Bloor's leaving saying, "Moving forward we will have a more data driven approach to recruitment, preparation and analysis, using the latest AI technology, equipment and platforms to manage the performance and welfare of our players. The next Manager/ Head Coach will need to be conversant in this and be comfortable and competent in implementing such an approach."
That damagingly and inaccurately publicly suggests by implication Danny Bloor would not have been able to adopt to AI, which is a red herring, as that all was a cover for the simple fact the new owner just wanted his own man in the role. What a crappy way to treat someone who has done so well for them.
But I am pleased for him he has immediately got a well deserved new door opening for him with us. It is virtually just a fortnight until we play our first pre-season friendly, I can't wait!
The unnecessary "change for changes sake" behind Eastbourne's new owner changing the manager (who had got three top 8 finishes in a row with a comparatively small budget) becomes even clearer when one sees the new owner is also equally unnecessarily and against fans wishes changing their crest.
That is all good news for us, I am open to correction, but I think Dartford's Dowson, currently unattached Steve King and Danny Bloor have the best managerial records in our division, so rather than gambling on an unproven manager, or backing an experienced one with a patchy record, we landed on our feet and got one of the league's best managers.
So instead of long posts you've now reverted to replying to yourself?
No, like lots of other posters I just post a new post if something strikes me after I've already done a post, as unfortunately my final and full thoughts on something don't always immediately strike me. Though not sure about "Reverting", maybe you have a different understanding of that word to me, as I consider it means going back to what one has done before, but as I haven't replied to myself before maybe you have a different meaning of the word in mind. Mind you, that question is off topic, the more important thing to look at is we've a manager who understands the importance of us being a happy friendly club again, and I for one agree with that!
Fantastic points from my favourite poster Johnny Hartley. At the Cray Wanderers game it was striking what a positive difference Danny makes from the bench, I listened nearby for a couple of minutes and it was so refreshing how he encouraged and praised the players during the game, and disagreed with officials in a conversational but not antagonistic way, light years ahead of last season's managerial toxic thuggery. Danny clearly prepares his team well, so trusts them on matchday, without feeling he has to constantly instruct them, all so refreshing to see after last season opposite approach.
I hadn't realised we had 6 triallists in one half, 5 in the other half, so in the circumstances it was a better performance than was immediately obvious. I can see now why knowledgeable fans here were calling for him to be appointed.
