Christie Patterson also announced he was leaving yesterday. He would have been one of the few from last season I wanted to keep, so a bit disappointed he isn't staying.

Excited to see what this new era will bring! I thought most of the Feeney signings were lazy and desperate - particularly the ones made part way through the season
Sounds like the lads we've signed have all got proven experience at this level or at least star performers in the level below.
To be honest, a return to decent attractive football and comfortable mid-table will be enough for me
Really looking forward to the new season and 'coming home' again after knobhead Feeney and his anti-football drove me away
Jay Jayden pères also who's a very decent midfielder, let face it half their squad are going to go unless they can match the players work wages from last year.
We won't be the only team looking at them but you would like to think we can get a couple of them.
A reminder in case anyone has missed this, last season we trained three mornings a week (which is full time, according to our opponents' managers!) but the coming season we move to evening training. This new evening training won't suit some of our players from last season, which may be one of the reasons why so few are with us again in the coming season.
But that is fine, this is a transitional season, we will get a squad of players who can do evening training, and then as here will be no sudden change to training timings next season, hopefully we will retain more players next season as our training times already match their needs. This move to evening training is a good idea, as it opens our horizons to a wider selection of players who have day time jobs, but are free for football evenings and weekends.
So this season is likely to be a near total rebuild, but next season will hopefully be more stable, as Danny seems popular with his players, so hopefully lots will be with us again next season.

Unless you have a Arab owner training days at this level is ridiculous. The reason we will not retain many players is that we were paying a premium on players who were not worth the money due to the fact they couldn't work during the day and football would be their only wage.. The normal non league player has a steady job and then plays football. It's worked for years and then you get some who try and break the cycle. The biggest mistake made by the club last year was training days, fact.

For the majority of the time I have been supporting Welling Utd (20+ years) they have been training 2 evenings a week. Why you feel the need to explain the Pros and Cons between training 2 evenings or 3 days a week is beyond me. We have already worked that out. Most of us worked it out years ago for god sake. We are not stupid. Try posting something we dont already know.
Actually Welling's precise training timetable hasn't been publicly confirmed, so lots of fans won't know what it is. As a newish fan I didn't know the long term background that Riverstown already knows, and it is interesting to now know, as it helps show why the move to three day training last season was so well received. I talked to a player who told me he had joined as we trained so much, and it showed we were ambitious, so it made a positive difference.
I wrote the comment as we only have 6 players lined up so far, which on the face of it isn't great with our first pre-season match just 9 days away, www.wellingunited.com/first-team/ gives us a 2 1 2 formation once Crossley Lema is added, but there are lots of complications in this particular transfer window - new manager being appointed close to the season start, change of training schedule affecting player retention, so just sharing that context. Players from last season who haven't yet been confirmed as renewals or departures include Taylor Curran, James Dunne, Medy Elito, Stefan and Amadou, so it is another season of near total rebuild, the most successful sides are stable, so I really hope we have a long term manager with a long term team built this season.
A shame Keith Boanas has left, he has so much knowledge that is now lost to the club.

The only other time that I remember day time training is when we were in the Conference Premier. Loui Fazakerley dumped Joe Healy because he couldn't train more than one day time session per week. That was not a brilliant move as Healy with no training was still far better than some of the players who trained every session.
That is great news about Taofiq coming back. I know from a conversation at the time with the decision maker the precise background to his departure, which was totally misguided and reflected so badly on the person making that decision for those unreasonable reasons, so it is great that problem has now disappeared and Taofiq can continue to play for us. Well done on Taofiq, he has shown a lot of quality in coming back to us after how he was messed around before. Again, it shows the benefits of Danny, and the fresh new start he brings.

Joe Healy, was class, scored that fantastic goal at Grimsby (I think - midweek) when he flicked it over his head and volleyed it home. Class.

We were talking about that goal last night. We didn't realise just how spectacular it was at the time.

Joe Healy. I remember when he first came from Millwall. He was playing up front with his back to goal. He didnt look great at all. Jamie Day brought him back and most thought he was mad to do so. Jamie turned Joe into a left sided midfielder. Stroke of genius. Joe is probably the best Welling player over to the last 10 or 12 years. Hes got a catalogue of wonder goals. Superb passer. The goal against Grimsby was with his right foot too. He normally avoided touching the ball with his right foot. Loved watching him play football.
Taofiq Olumowewe re-joins after a spell with us last season.
Wasn't impressed with him at all last season - the ridiculous sending off at Hemel being the lowest point, which could have ended up costing us the game after that great turnaround. Danny obviously sees something in him that I can't !
I regret I do not know how to link it to the forum but there is a very interesting article in Londonnewsonline (under sport) which gives our manager's views in respect of using the loan market.

Thank you for posting the link Mark.
In terms of Treacles comment above I am led to believe that this season we have a much reduced budget. We are competing for players with so many clubs in our area chucking silly money around and many of the players are happy to drop down two or three levels for the extra wonga.
