On grudges behind team selection, I remember last season's manager was a nightmare, as after reliable defenders like Chi and Rob made a goal conceding mistake, he would grudgefully drop them next game, which was poor management, as all players make mistakes, and you wouldnt drop a striker for missing a shot, so why drop a defender for screwing up an incident? Judge by their season long picture.
Ive noticed Winterbottom and Lachlan droppings, and hope they were not punishment for individual isolated mistakes, as the best players are those that make fewest mistakes, and they were/ are some of our most reliable players.
So I get the suggestion Lachlan was dropped to give him a break, but when the alternative is Curran, and there are weekly gaps in between games to recover, then it makes no sense.
Pressure does strange things to people, I just hope Dannys decisions like dropping Winterbottom or Lachlan werent knee jerk reactions, or grudges over uncharacteristic mistakes. We get beaten when we make more mistakes than the opposition. So Danny needs to play his most reliable fewest mistakes first 11, only changing if players need a rest.
Dover changed their manager when the owners had excused losses as the performances had been good, but when the performances also became bad knew a change was needed. Our performances are still fine, really good performances in the second half of the season, the players still go out playing positively and with purpose. If Danny wasn't blind to Taylor Curran's ineptitude at this level, by far the worst player I have seen play for us, so not picked him yesterday, we would have got at least a point from Aveley.
I think the owners don't care about relegation. I think it will make it easier for them. I also agree that at a lower level they can ground share more locally. Phoenix, VCD, Cray Valley. Realistically if Welling stay in National league South it would almost certainly mean a ground share with Tonbridge Angels. Other suitable grounds would be Bromley, Ebbsfleet United, Maidstone United, Dartford or Chatham Town but none are likely to want to or be able to ground share with us.
The current plans are pie in the sky. I don't see them being approved because of the car parking issue. However, our ground continues to fall in to further disrepair.
My suspicious theory is the board and owners don't care what division the club are in. They want the club out of the site. They will declare the club unviable and offer to redevelop the site. The pitch can become a central car park put the shops and flats on 3 sides use the 4th side for a community sports facility thus fulfilling the covenant on the land.
Welling United academy and the Football club are 2 separate entities and businesses. The existing club would be sold to Gary Fiore if it does survive or a phoenix club formed. Either way I think under the current regime the idea is to eventually relocate the club to the Academy site never to return to PVR ever again.
The sad thing is if an owner who cared about the club redeveloped the current ground, better facilities, new main stand, improvements to the areas behind both goals but no flats or shops. Put in a 4G pitch and an in house academy. Like every other club the club actually own and run their own academy then the club could be sustainable and profitable. Not to the levels of profit that the shops/housing development would make but viable. The trouble is no one has actually cared about the team or club since the Hobbin's days. It has become apparent to the current owners that to achieve the profitable goals they want on the current site the club must go. Why else would the team be underfunded and why would the board continue to tolerate an unsuccessful manager. This is just my theory I may be totally wrong and being paranoid but they are my suspicions.

I'm just an ordinary fan so others are much better placed to comment but have you ever considered that maybe the owners don't have an endless supply of funds to pump into the club, rather than suggesting they don't care?
The plans for the ground would have made Welling viable in the long term. Without the flats or the shops where would the millions come from to redevelop the ground? I'm not a massive fan of how little terracing there will be but if it happened I could see it would protect the long term future of the club.
As for the car parking issue, I spoke to a very experienced planning lawyer. He didn't see the lack of parking as an issue. If anything it's a positive.
The Hobbins' were different. They built the club but eventually there came a time when they couldn't take it further forward.
It would be helpful to have some proper communication from the club, even if it's just to tell us there's been a delay or whatever.
I agree the Hobbins couldn't take the club any further and yes I agree development with the shops and flats would be a better option but I'm told the local residents will constantly try to block the planning permission because they are worried where the extra cars will go in what are already congested streets with difficult parking. I find it difficult to believe planning will go ahead as it has been dragging on for years.
I did say in my post new owners who primary concerned was what was best for the football club because it's the club that is foremost in their heart. I would hope they would be able to fund it, maybe with other investors and grabbing any grants that were available. In addition the development I'm suggesting isn't as grand as the current plans so wouldn't cost as much. I would further suggest it doesn't need to be done all at once. The priority would be the 4G pitch then the main stand. In that way not only could you spread the cost but the club could stay there playing and still be generating income.
You may be right in that the board/owners may not have the money but my question is Gary Fiore is funding a vast investment in improving the academy so why can't he channel some of that money into Welling United Football Club?
The silence from the club is deafening. You are absolutely right they should just tell the fans what is happening and the timescale. If they were to do that it would end the speculation and people, maybe myself included, jumping to all the wrong conclusions.
I spoke with a club insider about team comms, who constantly approves my ever on topic posts and likes white minty sweets, and asked why so little news was coming out. He told me that the club had learned a lesson with the relaying of the pitch, as they had been very public about it being re-laid, then it took longer to settle in, and matches had to be postponed, so they had learned it is best to only release news when things are very clear. That was really helpful to understand.
So I guess until the development is clear we wont get any significant update, and in the meantime have to piece things together to work out our own updates and backgrounds to them.
The owners had connections with Bromley, which was redeveloped, but actually that is a red herring, as that ground has so much land around it for parking etc, whereas PVR is compact and no development space around, so the only development space is upwards, so the two developments have very little in common. The profits from a PVR development would be massive, just back of fag packet sums, but 140 flats sold for £150K each (and there would probably more flats, with a higher sale price) raise £21M. Obviously there are costs to knock off that, but one sees why such a project attracts people more interested in development than football. Then the profits from all that, plus the 3G pitch, make us heavily funded. Then thank goodness we can afford to offer Taylor Curran higher pay, to fight off the attention our star defender will attract from other clubs...

Totally agree with the first paragraph. From conversations I have had this season, my gut feeling/ opinion is that we will ground share with Cray Valley PM next season if relegated and planning approved.
I've now seen highlights of the Aveley game, and actually the third conceded goal sums up in a few seconds why we have problems. We are rubbish at blocking crosses, as shown by them taking a throw in, where they have 3 players, one taking the throw and 2 other players supporting him and we only have 2 players there, so it is easy for the opposition to pass the ball around to get a cross in. We are equally poor at marking in the box, so then they get a cross in and absolutely none of our players are bothering to stand close to a loose Aveley player to get a tackle in or a block, so he has loads of time to shoot and score.
That first Aveley goal was the same problem yes Taylor Curran was to blame, but the player that scored from that screwed up clearance had been left totally unmarked and no one standing between him to block the shot or get a tackle in. You cant get away with leaving players unmarked in our box.
It is all starting to remind me of Peter Taylor, who kept glumly saying after defeats caused by us conceding goals after giving clumsy free kicks away that we needed to cut out the mistakes, but he never did anything to cut them out. Everyone knows what I think about Warren, but as time goes on one sees his qualities a bit more clearly, and he could see that the team was hopeless defensively so took action and virtually transferred out the whole team immediately on his arrival. Looking for positives, that new defender was excellent, hardly put a foot wrong, and if Jack and Lachlan come back then we will be more sound in defence.
Closing down and blocking are basics, we conceded 3 stupid goals on Saturday from not clearing or blocking, and cant keep doing that or we will run out of games to save ourselves. Our team's big flaw is they love the fun attacking side of the game, but just arent as interested in the hard gritty defending side, and attack as a team, but dont defend as a team, leaving it for each other to do the defending and marking, and the problem is others arent doing it.
Quite a strange starting eleven Saturday but sounds like Carr is cover for Roscrow who couldn't play Saturday due to a late issue so Carr started unexpectedly, although I would have played Kamara anyway as he looked much fitter. Possibly the club is still talking to Abrahams (reading into Danny's interview) but I still don't understand Byrd out the side - unless he's had a falling out with staff? It was terrible defending so the game was lost early on.
Unless the club gets some funding, we're down. Perhaps it does suit the club as many teams would find something from somewhere in the fight to stay up. Imagine if there was a clause in the redevelopment that we had to be Step 6 or above for approval.
If 200 fans crowdfunded £5 per week each, £1000 a week for a new player or two. Club wouldn't turn it down, would they?

I agree. My point was more if the fans did fund players how would the club turn it down? They could only do that if they weren't serious about staying up, which some of the comments on here allude to (and might be true).

Ha ha, like the comment regarding the action Feeney took regarding defensive fragility.
Remember the opening game of the season away at Weymouth, or was it Taunton.
Anyway, he substituted Taylor Curran within half hour of KO.

I would give up a tenner if it meant us looking a little more likely to stay up.
I hadn't realised that Curran was at fault for all 3 goals, I already knew from watching on matchday he was at fault for the first 2, but saw from the highlights he was at fault for the third goal too, as he had been marking the guy that scored the third goal, then decided to leave him totally unmarked.
You can tell he wont care about any of that though, he never takes responsibility, just puts team mates in trouble when he passes the ball to tightly marked players who then lose it, which is why they try not to pass to him, or aimlessly backwards to the keeper. But I liked the comedy moment at Dartford, when Curran did an aimless pass back to the keeper, who rates Curran as highly as me and Wallop, so passed it straight back to Curran to actually do something worthwhile!

I think if the club intentionally wasn't competing to ensure relegation I wouldn't bother anymore. I sincerely hope that isn't even a whiff of truth in that but have heard it in multiple forums

So a lot of people who have no connection with the club are saying we are trying to get relegated? If we stay up does that mean Danny will be fired?

Honestly wouldn't surprise me, let's not forget Andy currans 'form' with involvement of football clubs. Sincerely hope im wrong, but really starting to feel like PVR will be a housing estate within 5 years. And I don't think I'm the only one who feels that.
The secret of football is not to take things too seriously, it is a game after all. So not taking myself too seriously either, I'd self mockingly mentioned my 7 e mails in 9 days, but accidentally missed the important follow up point that reflects well on Danny. A couple of weeks after I was politely asked to stop them, Danny waved to me in the stands before a match and said hi Jimmie and was fine about it all now being in the past when I had a quick word with him about it before a match, and in the bar after Dartford came over to me and the fans I was chatting with to wish us happy new year, and had a quick word with me about how many wins we need to stay up, so that was really impressive and nice to see like me he looks forward, not back, and doesnt hold onto grudges about a fan's well intentioned but silly mistakes. And club football is too small to have personal issues with one another, as sooner or later one will bump into one another.
There will be so many hidden things about managing us that will only have become apparent once taking on the manager role, but it is clear Danny is understandably starting to get frustrated.
It struck me yesterday how the money side of things is odd, as last season we had no home friendlies due to the new pitch needing time to settle in, and got knocked out of cups early. But this season we will have earned much more, lots of home pre-season friendlies, money making cup runs, yet this season's better income isnt showing on the pitch.
The Aveley highlights should have a certificate X, a certain defender does the most horrific defending anyone has ever seen!
VCD has loads of room for development and has attached training facilities that are rented out. Buy that with the profit from making PVR a housing estate. Is that what the owners are thinking?
