To add some detail, Taunton have had 6 departures in the last week. Over the last month in total, those six, and Jay Foulston have all left the club after issues arose regarding payment and funding, several so desperate to leave they have moved to teams 2 divisions lower. Looking at the squad now, only two remaining players who can operate in the striker positions.
In the midfield, just 4 players who can play in the middle three. However, of those, 2 have been used as wing backs this season so the midfield is very much down to the bare bones, as is the whole squad. The remaining players have put out a joint message complaining they have been lied to by the club, and saying that the club is being mismanaged financially, consistently spending more than it brings in, but that they will do their best while still at the club. Not very promising for them.
Looking at Truro, they are getting home attendances of around 170, as they are playing home games at Plymouth, far away from Truro, so their finances wont be great.
And Dover's second highest scorer is James Dunne.
So there are issues with other clubs that give some confidence in our R battle! It feels some of the clubs above us wont get that many more points, so it is up to us to close that gap.
Both Taunton and Truro have been forced to postpone games due to waterlogged pitches. This has been highlighted on NL fans facebook pages with a lot of people slagging off Taunton. Cannot help force of nature but it does sound as though they need some work on their pitch.

Back to Taunton. Posts on National Forum from people down that way indicate it is down to cash flow with all the postponed games. 7 players out in a week to save money some going to Yeovil. Stated chairman will not talk to manager and all communication is in writing.

The Poet was making a great point we need to end up above four teams worse than us, and I am sure Taunton will end up in that category, along with Dover, and maybe Weymouth, and another too early to say.
From being comfortably in a play off spot until October Taunton have only won 1 of their last 15 league games, at a time when they had a stronger squad than they now have, so hard to see how they will improve results. A while back they were 9 points above us with 5 games in hand, they have now used up 3 of those games in hand, and are still 9 points above us.
Because of their financial issues Taunton have lost experienced players, who have left to join clubs where they can be sure to get paid, and had to fill their squad with younger less experienced players, with 9 players aged 23 or under, so in a way are now almost an academy team, rather than a regular NLS team.
They have got 8 points from their last 10 games, which, if that form were maintained over the rest of the season (and they could well do worse as their squad has deteriorated during those 10 games) would give them roughly 46-48 points, which is relegation form. So although they are currently 9 points above us with 2 games in hand, if we maintain our level of play in the 4 second half season games we have played so far, we can overtake them.
It was good for us that both Dover and Havant below us lost at the weekend.
Taunton lost 0 - 6 yesterday, which was good news for us, as it damages their goal difference a lot, so their goal difference is now only 6 goals better than ours, but that gap will keep closing. It is so close in the table it is quite possible goal difference will be the difference between staying up or not.
The shame for them is they were doing so well earlier, in the play off area for quite a few months, before their players started quitting over fears of not getting paid.
They are now in such a mess with their transfer embargo, a squad of 16 including 5 college kids. Yesterday they had 3 players unavailable through injury, so only 3 subs, but one of them wasn't fit to play, so in effect just 2 subs. Like most teams they have around 16 games to fit into 10 weeks left of the season so lots of weeks of 2 games a week, which will be so tough for them with such a small squad.
The forthcoming home games at Tauntons ground to fit in the outstanding 20 games in 8 weeks are
Tue 27 Feb - Taunton v Weston-SM
Sat 2 Mar - Truro v Taunton / Tue 5 Mar - Taunton v Slough
Sat 9 Mar - Truro v Chelmsford / Tue 12 Mar - Truro v Weymouth
both sides away Sat 16 Mar / Tue 19 Mar - Truro v Eastbourne
Sat 23 Mar - Taunton v Chelmsford / Tue 26 Mar - Truro v Dartford
Good Fri 29 Mar - Truro v Slough / Easter Mon 1 Apr - Taunton v Bath
Sat 6 Apr - Truro v Aveley / Tue 9 Apr - Truro v Torquay
Sat 13 Apr - Truro v Maidstone / Tue 16 Apr - Truro v Dover
Sat 20 Apr (final day) - Taunton v Hemel Hempstead
5 Home dates still to be arranged presumably on Wednesdays or Thursdays Truro v Yeovil, Hemel Hempstead, Taunton v Chippenham, Maidstone and Torquay.
So taking Saturday postponement into account, every week bar 1 already has 2 games a week lined up on an already unplayable pitch, with 3 games a week happening on at least 4 weeks. So each postponement means a new week of 3 games a week there.
Moral: avoid football pitches built on rubbish tips. Arsenal are no exception! Talking of rubbish tips, how did my prediction we would easily beat Taunton go?! Now I know to my cost they always go for an away draw.
Tbf the sacking was a shambles but things seem to have turned around - I see it as a lucky accident rather than any sort of football knowledge but you have to take what you can get
Their game tonight (27th February) has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch. We will go above both Truro and Taunton if we win tonight, albeit they will have games in hand.
Surely the league has got to step in here and think about awarding the points to the away team? Theyll never get their backlog played at this rate and could have a big impact on the promotion play off dates as well as those in the relegation scrap.

Taunton's problem is their pitch doesn't have drainage, so once it is soaked by water, that water will stay there until the weather is warm enough - 12 degrees or above - to dry it out. And as we have seen over the winter, it has mostly been below 12 degrees.
To be honest both teams are responsible for their own problems, Taunton way overspending, and in building their pitch on an unsuitable ground, and Truro in playing groundshare games at a faraway ground that clearly has poor drainage, postponements, fixture backlogs and the predictable scenario of everything that has happened happening.
Saturday's match (2nd March), which technically is Truro City at home to Taunton Town, will be played at Gloucester City. On Google maps this shows as 194 miles from Truro and 75 miles from Taunton!

Gloucester City season ticket holders not going away can gain entry by showing their ST at turnstiles. Nice gesture by Gloucester to host but probally need extra dosh to cover a previous managers spending.

Plenty of time to go Leek played 5 games in 6 days in the Conference I believe and stayed up
The way things are going at Taunton, they started off the season as semi-pro players, and will end the season as amateur players that play for nothing!
It is so mad, they were under a transfer ban due to unpaid tax, paid off the tax bill, got the transfer ban lifted, signed 2 new players, now a few weeks after clearing their debts they can't afford to pay their latest tax bill or their wage bill, so will have another transfer ban.
Their pitch is built on top of a rubbish tip that was covered with clay, so water has nowhere to go downwards, hence all their waterlogged pitches. With so much more water up in the atmosphere coming down as rainstorms because of global warming, 3G pitches will soon be essential for non league clubs, both for revenue, and avoiding water logged pitches.
All the more impressive how our ground staff have coped so well with two teams playing so often on our pitch. The earth in south London is very clay based, which keeps water on the surface and is why the tube companies say it is not possible to have underground tube services this side of the river.
They have become victims of a particularly wet winter. Heavy heavy rain 3 or 4 times a week. Surely this must be the end for them. Very sad, very unfortunate but I cant see HMRC or the National League South putting up with this for much longer. Apparently they brought in two new players in last weekend, and now it appears that they cannot even pay them. Unless they do eventually manage to get some Home league games played, they will be struggling for revenue for the foreseeable future. A tragedy for them but it may well work in our favour. Not the way you would wish things to be, but it is what it is.

Furthermore, with Truro playing games at Gloucester rather than Taunton, it's further income that they have lost.

Well that final paragraph regarding TfL is nonsense

According to my time in proper London Transport my underground colleagues always spouted that the South London clay made it difficult to have deep levels lines here. They also felt the Southern Electrics did a good job south of the river so underground was not needed.

Spoke too soon, tonight's (Thursday 14th March) game now off. At least Weston fans do not have far to go back, and I wonder if the Weston club will (with justification) claim travel costs.
West country gets stranger. Truro confirm they are finishing season at Gloucester City and now Bridgewater Ladies are at Taunton. Bit like musical chairs with football grounds.
