Bloody hell. He has improved and made the step up to NLS, so is just as likely to now do well the next division up, so a great and well deserved move for him, though that is a blow for us.
Danny has been looking preoccupied the last few weeks, and I bet player departures will be part of all that, as it must be a drag developing players who then respond by moving with just 3 months of the season left, and crucial games still to be played, when they could have stayed with us to finish off the season.
Hasn't helped your bet on us (E/W) for the league title Jim.
Still, we could sling Curran up front?
In all fairness, he's better with his head than his feet.
Wallop, that is a coincidence, I looked at our odds the other day out of interest, they were 4500 - 1 to win the league. Off the top of my head I didnt think it still mathematically possible for us to do it, but apparently it is. Oddly enough, I will not invest.
I have always said Antony should play in attack, as he has height and strength to win the ball and hold onto it to lay it off or shoot, and his midfield shooting from distance isnt great (gawd, being so diplomatic there!) but he is much better shooting close. As we saw from his play behind Tristan and Kain, Antony gives great passes to strikers, so if he was one of the strikers he would make a great striking partnership with whoever he plays up front with. He is a clever footballer, has played well in every position, goal, defence, midfield, so no reason why he cant do just as well in attack.
In football as in life, as one door closes another opens, so Kain going opens the door for someone. In a home game shortly after his hatrick against Dartford I said to him before kick off in passing as I walked to my seat "hello Hero". Cometh the hour cometh the man. Kain is now history, but Antony could fill that gap really well. I bet if he is tried out in training in a striking role he would surprise the coaching team and then be one to fill the striking position. Still alarmingly quiet about Tristan's plans.
I remember Warren sticking Manny Parry in attack, but I swear if one calculated average points per game when Curran plays, and points where he doesnt, one would reach certain conclusions...
Very sad to see Kain Adom leave the club for Gateshead but it is an opportunity the club couldn't refuse him. He is now playing professionally and in a higher league. Good luck to Kain. Losing our best player and our situation in the league I think it is inevitable Welling United will be relegated.
Isnt it sad that we now say we can not stand in his way and the opportunity to play at Gateshead was too good to turn down etc???
I remember playing Gateshead in the conference back in the day and they were cannonfodder in those early years, we gave them a few thrashings.now we cant hold a flame to them in any shape or form.
Kain Adom scored the winner in Gateshead's 2-1 victory over Barnet on Saturday. Well done Kain. Hopefully we can also beat Barnet 2-1 in a couple of weeks.
