I definitely am not a fan of the minutes applause tribute thing. I much prefer the minutes silence when paying respect to someone. I thought Barrie Hobbins deserved the minutes silence.

I wanted both but I put it to the WUSA committee for their thoughts and the majority said applause. I'm sure Barrie was looking down on us tonight and would've been pleased ,especially us getting a win

I was criticised by a couple of fans for not standing up while I clapped, even though looking around people were, like me and everyone else, choosing to respond in their own way, whether it be standing, sitting, applauding, not applauding. It isn't great when there is pressure being put on people how to act, the important thing is that the club reminded everyone of these events, how it is then responded to is up to the individual and how well they knew the players or the previous owner, which in my case was they were before my time following Welling.

We are supposed to be living in a democracy, where people are free to express their thoughts however they want to, and not try to block out anything that is different to how one thinks. Personally I think it is better to show respect how one wants to, rather than how one thinks one is forced to. So Welling got it fine, letting people respond how they wanted to, even if some fans better acquainted than me with the passed players and owner don't see it that way.

There is a reason why hardly any women, kids or non white people come to Welling games, which in turn reflects on low attendances and poor finances. Creating a narrowminded hostile atmosphere doesn't help.

Jimmy, it depends on whether you believe in etiquette or not. Part of the process involved in honoring a person is remaining silent or applauding usually for one minute. It is obviously up to the individual how this process is carried out, however, I am old school in that if I believe an individual is worthy of honoring, the least I can do is to get off my backside for one minute.

Ron, I think a issue no one here will ever understand is that I have Aspergers, so dont really recognise social cues others get straight away as they have the normal social balance I dont have, and I dont have filters that most others have. So from my very different black and white Aspergers way of thinking, I didnt know the players, I didnt know the Hobbins as they were all before my time, so why should I mourn someone I didnt know. Others with a more normal social way of thinking do what most others do, whether or not they knew the people involved. Its why it never even struck me my posts were too long until it was pointed out to me, or why 7 e mails in 9 days was too much, until it was pointed out to me, whereas others would know that already so not do those things in the first place. But some fans here have been really helpful and given me great advice, which I have really appreciated and tried to take on board as best I can, as they can see my heart is in the right place even if I take too many words to say that. And the most important thing is that the people that have passed were loved and admired by those that knew them, and that is more important than how someone like me who didnt know them responds.

Point taken, now let's get back to football topics.

A minute's applause was introduced as it proved difficult at many grounds to get respect from both sets of fans, especially at derby games.  We saw this when Scotland played England last September. Hard to ruin people clapping.  Silence seems more respectful but as Spud said, you get people coming in not aware and facilities still serving etc.

Totally agree, even standing outside shop for rememberance day I wanted to just shout out shut up to people. One even tried to get into shop while we were standing in silence.
