Danny's release was badly managed, silly bringing in a new manager without training time before his first match. Danny winning his last match in charge made it look even more ill planned. Clearly the decision made before that match, so why not bring the new manager in before the match.

Chatting at our latest game about Danny's departure, a shrewd Welling fan said, "It's a results business". True. It pains me to say this, but I've reflected a lot on Alan's views on Danny's reliance on his coaches. In 8 months with Danny we were light in attack, hardly any assists, really poor shooting accuracy, that never improved, or looked likely to.

I sat near Rod's bench for an idea of the new manager, really impressed. He called out players, particularly Adam and Antony, which is well overdue, telling players to avoid letting Taunton get crosses in, as he has seen we let in goals from crosses. All he said was spot on in addressing weaknesses unfixed and repeating all season before.

Attendances dropped since Danny went, those there more subdued than normal. Danny is fine, he'll deservedly get another job, even better from lessons learned from us,so we must focus on us and our remaining 16 league cup finals, and support Rod. I like his no sugarcoating, he will knock our team into shape. Whatever happened with Danny has nothing to do with Rod. Rod's sound start, unbeaten after 2 games, deserves credit no one gives him. He's a tough gig, taking over with just 18 games to get us out of the relegation zone. We'll never know for sure, but looking closely he seems more likely to get results than Danny would have.

At one point, West Side Johnny was 'on Rod's bench' but had to, ultimately, settle for a place 'near Rod's bench'.

The background is fans have talked on social media about boycotting our games. Though I understand fans objections to how the management situation has been dealt with, I wouldn't want us to be the next insolvent Taunton. So missing matches causes problems for the club.

This is such an important part of the season now, each game is a cup final, but it seems a bit subdued. That is a shame as we have had some great results recently, so one would expect more fans, not less.

Talking of sitting location, to amuse The Poet I'll share a funny moment at the match, I don't normally sit at that side of the ground as I moved to the Erith side to avoid hearing our previous manager and bench motivating the players in matches by shouting and swearing at them how bad and lazy they were. But on Saturday I saw an area of seating that was surprisingly empty, for no reason I could see, so sat in it, only to be politely told to move, as it was the Directors seating area!

Well Johnny, you have to understand that we have seen it all before. Financial woes, good managers, bad managers, people sitting in the wrong seats(!), packed areas, empty areas, segregation decisions, policing costs, stewarding arrangements, pitch invasions, low attendances, decent attendances, attendances stagnating, floodlight problems, good players, crap players. The list goes on. The longer you support Welling United, the more you will learn about Welling United (& non-league football, in general). It may be wise for you to familiarise yourself with the club to, at least, make your posts as accurate as possible. Perhaps you could purchase some old programmes from Peter Mason at the ground? Alan has been coming for about nine years now and you may benefit from following his lead. Watching old videos may assist you further regarding crowds, etc.
As has been pointed out in the past by numerous posters (including myself), you really must take social media ('X') with a pinch of salt. You will only continue to lead yourself up the garden path. The impact is minimal. Read what people have to say on THIS forum but, more importantly, take on board what they say rather than planning some wayward response. Odin is 100% correct in pulling you, no question.
Many of us were already aware of your plight last Saturday but, again, due to your unfamiliarity with the club/ground you sat in the Directors' seats! It was a genuine mistake on your part but was, nevertheless, highly amusing. We thought you were going to sit on the bench at one stage & maybe try to get a game.
The 'West Side' was, in fact, somewhat ironic considering your move from A-B (or should that be E-W?) You can work that one out for yourself, no doubt.

So, Johnny, me ol' super statistician, whilst your concerns have been duly noted, a handful of our fans boycotting games ain't gonna send us skint. Likewise, a couple of recent victories ain't gonna boost our attendances by any significant amount.

The Danny Bloor era is over. We are now in the Rod Stringer era.

If the Wings are United...

I'm in shock. A couple of bits of praise. I like the style of Rod Stringer's management. Coaching from the touchline for 90 minutes. It's only my opinion but it's the kind of manager I prefer. I got his autograph last night to add to my growing collection and on talking to him he will give a honest and frank view. Feels his job and priority is to keep Welling United in National League South. Good luck to him I think it is a big task he has undertaken

Oh no, Rod has just had the manager's kiss of death, being asked by Alan to to sign his programme! No Welling manager has ever survived this!

I really liked Rod's X comment about fans unhappy at his arrival, due to the Danny situation, Rod saying everyone has the right to an opinion. I really like that point of view. Alan's understandably in shock people have seen his comments positively, but that is a strength of this club, as apart from a few unpleasant long standing fans who resent recently arrived fans, and who should take a look at themselves and stop being like that, fans here are fab.

All agree our play in the final third is very poor, our scoring so low mostly as supply to strikers has been almost non existent all season, as our midfield in particular don't see it as part of their job to actually put the ball into good places for our strikers to run onto. Not sure if there are assist stats anywhere, but our midfield seem to think their job is to tackle, and not to create chances for other players, or to score themselves. Hopefully Rod's noticed all that, and gets them to look for passes for strikers to run onto, and midfielders to get into better shooting positions. That will get the fans behind him.

It is great he has quickly got some new players in, as we will have 2 games a week in 6 of the remaining 10 weeks of the season once postponed games get scheduled.

More likely that any Welling fans, long standing or otherwise, 'resent' inaccurate/inflammatory posts rather than 'recently arrived fans'. All fans are welcome at Welling United Football Club, in particular genuine, recently arrived fans.
