Unbelievable, been at work all evening and keeping tabs on the score throughout, when we conceded and had a man sent off I thought oh here we go! But no, what a massive result, considering amount of new players that's probably better than the yeovil win, with Truro and Dartford losing and Taunton racking up another game that they'll struggle to fulfill its a massive win. GET IN, Awoooga.
That was by far the best performance and most enjoyable game of the season. Finally we seem to have conviction in our passes going forward and we put Worthing under pressure throughout the game.
Fish is absolutely class!! Its a long way to go still and Im not getting ahead of myself but if we can keep playing like that we will be absolutely fine!
Fish ?!? Looked dead on his feet at 80 mins after the running he put in all game. And then to come up with the energy and fight to score two at the endamazing. New chant must be Fish Fish he FINishes when he wants
What a performance, they can all take a bow. Four excellent goals, dug in at 2-1 in front, down to 10 men and then Sonny Fish score 2 superb solo efforts. Hats off to Rod Stringer, he's showing passion on the bench talking to the players all game, we looked a much tighter unit with some shape in and out of possession and dangerous on the break. Let's hope this win inspires us to go on a run and get out of this position.
I was worried about this match, in their previous game against Weymouth Worthing scored early, then had a man sent off after 14 minutes, yet scored 3 more and won 4 -1. Worthing also have Ollie Pearce in attack, on 33 goals this season, a goal a game, next highest league scorer is on 17.
But we did a great job on them, attacked as a team, defended as a team, fab saves, Pearce didn't stand out as we defended so well, we finally knocked balls up for strikers to run onto, that finally gave us a cutting edge in attack. Polo is spot on, the second goal was surely a team goal of the season. Can't wait to see it again (and again!) in the highlights, plus Riece's saves.
That Chippenham game was a nightmare as we were so slow and aimless, players on the ball walking around not knowing what to do, no one running to give him options to pass to, like watching paint dry instead of using our fantastic pace we have in our team. Against Worthing we used our great pace perfectly, all the wrong things in Chippenham were right in the Worthing game. Great to see Sonny Fish defending so well from the front, Antony's versatility in playing so well in defence, Riece playing a blinder. Rod and his coaches steering the players towards winning football.
Jimmie - Chippenham? How many did you have after the match last night?
Dodgy Dart, our West Side Johnny could actually be referring to Chippenham, believe it or not! This would be one of our earlier home games. However, it is also possible that he could be referring to Chelmsford (aka Cheltenham).
Hi Dodgy Dart, without the background context it's easy to misunderstand why I mentioned Chippenham. To explain, it was just that match was like watching paint dry, again, players walking or running with the ball instead of making quick one or two touch passes, which is one of keys of effective football.
The goal has fantastic 1/2 touch passing, zooming from one part of the pitch to another and so hard to defend against. Our strength in the squad is our speed, yet before we weren't taking advantage of that. But Worthing was a real wow match, they are used to playing together so do tons of quick passing, but we matched them on that all over the pitch, despite quite a few of our guys only recently joined, so just imagine further improvement in our team once they all play more matches together.
Brilliant performance as good as it gets an amazing game. I agree with POLO the 2nd goal was superb and worthy of any game in any division. As good as the goal we scored away at Dartford in the FA Cup. Dug deep and weren't to be denied even after having a dodgy penalty awarded against us and having a player sent. off. One of the matches of the season right up there with Yeovil home, Hampton & Richmond home Chesterfield FA Trophy home and Dartford FA Cup away. Probably one the best all-time games in my 9 years.
The more on watches the second goal, the better it gets. At its best sport is about chasing and getting perfection, which doesnt often happen as it is so difficult to do things perfectly.
But that second goal is perfect, the more one looks at it the better it becomes, as more things strike one. I made the tactical mistake of missing Antony beating Dartford 3 -2 and watched Bromley that day, as I wanted to see what the difference was between our league and the one higher up. I noticed a big difference, they only touched the ball once or twice, whereas we (at that stage) were sometimes so slow, with players taking so long to pass the ball and taking tons of touches while on the ball.
That was fixed in this fab second goal, Reice had the ball, and showed great speed of thought and immediately passed it to the wing, who took a touch to control, then a pass to Antony, who did one touch to pass to Jason, one touch to pass to Crossley, one touch to cross to Reece, who scored direct from the cross.
FOURTEEN SECONDS from Reice releasing the ball at one end to it going in the back of the net at the other end. Almost impossible to defend against such perfect quick accurate passing.
