Cracking result. Didnt expect 3 goals. WSM played the ball around well and had a lot of possession. We defended well and took our chances. We got our first goal against run of play but great to go in one up. The fought and the equaliser was just a matter of time. The two goals at end were fantastic. Well, deserved. This Welling team keeps up the momentum. Really enjoyable afternoon and well done everyone at the club.

Terribly slow start and no press in first half. But what a fantastic win in end grinding out results is what we need right now and the mentality to go with it is so encouraging .COYW !!

I'd have settled for a point late into the second half but what a finish. Weston were very pretty on the ball but defensively we kept them to very few proper goal scoring opportunities. Not a great performance but we keep rolling on. I wouldn't wish to pick players out, good or bad, but if we keep this commitment up we could see ourselves in this league next season.

A real rollercoaster of a game, both teams controlling the game for spells, they finished the second half very strongly, as late on we suddenly stopped pressing them on the ball so they had tons of time with it, and I thought we would be pleased to get away with a draw.

Then we brought on two subs, both scored, and from looking more likely of the two teams to lose, we suddenly won by two goals!

Weston are a very good team, passing the ball very well, quick and organised on the break, very effective all over the pitch, so a really good win for us.

Whatever Welling do going forward, we need to keep this manager, back room staff and nucleus of players.
Fantastic performance over the past couple of months, and made us a team that is very steadfast
We cannot go into a season with a bunch of unknowns
That basically gives away 6 games.
There will be a few looking at Rod has done here, I hope we are able to keep him.

I echo that, got to keep Stringer for next season.

Not the best performance, but great character to win that at the end. Another match we would surely have lost earlier in the season.
I thought Gene Kennedy had his best game for us today and was a little surprised when he went off, but it gave us more attacking options which ultimately won us the game.

Its funny how we all see the game differently Moo, I thought he had his worst game in a Welling shirt! I felt like they over ran us in the midfield at times, we all see it differently though

A brilliant ending and a marvellous 3 points to back up that mesmeric away victory in Somerset last Saturday.

A vital 3 points, especially with results going in our favour.

Not the prettiest game and we are possibly a tad fortunate that we were 1-1 going into the final minutes after a poor second half display and Weston piling on the pressure. However the sign of a good team is one that can grind out results when they aren't playing well and we did that today.

Credit to the players, Rod and his team. After the results that Rod's had, I would hope that he can stay for next season, but I wouldn't be surprised if a number of clubs wanted to bring him in.

I think 50-52 points is the target for safety, 3 more wins from 8 and we will be fine.

Up the Wings!

Have deserved some rub of the green for weeks and certainly came today. Fortunate def favours a team in form. Would hope to see a rod team from the off next year based on our performances and results currently you'd have to hope it would be a team fighting in the top half opposed to last few in bottom pack.

Just seen rods interview, while get the club needs financial input to support being sustainable this come to bar after or you are not a real fan is ludicrous and incredibly disappointing.

Different ways and means to get a similar message across while not alienating

Apologies Rod, after driving 60 miles to the game I decided not to get smashed in a poor bar, and drink and drive home - but see my kids before bedtime. I'm not sure why I feel bad now haha.

Great 3 points - UTW.

It was quite a good crowd yesterday, a few months back that might have been 480 instead of 680. I'm sure we can get more fans in the bar but it needs some improvement and we've come off the back of some difficult times with relegation looming, Danny Bloor's sacking and the move to Tonbridge (now not on thank god).

An opposition team gave a stat we failed to score in 7 of Danny's 13 home league games, which I wasn't aware of, and surprised me, as I'd been to those games, and it didn't strike me we'd done as bad as that. Checking results I see that's right. Much of that is down to Danny sticking to playing 1 up front, home and away, against good or bad opponents, rather than being tactically flexible.

So great to see Rod's interview yesterday, where he mentions preferring to play 2 in attack at home. We have scored in 9 of his 10 games in charge, and only lost once, so the best form of defence is attack approach is working so well. It is a credit to the team's fitness how many late goals we've got.

Sonny started this season at Worthing getting 1 goal in 5 appearances (though 2 of them were short) then 1 in 9 for Tonbridge, so him scoring in 4 of his 8 games with us shows Rod is getting the best out of Sonny. Jason is the same, also playing excellently while with us on loan. That's important, as it makes it easier to get quality players on loan, or as outright signings, if we show we improve players while they are with us.

I'd my first few words with Rod yesterday, it was tremendously reassuring to see he's keeping his feet on the ground to build a stable platform for safety. Like other fans here, I hope he stays, and we retain as many players as possible, as the last 10 games with Rod show this team can compete with any team in the league, so it would be a mistake to break all that up and start all over again next season. The quality of football is by far the best of the 4 managers I've seen at Welling.

Another welcome three points to back up the Yeovil result last weekend and nice to get a win when not playing anywhere near our best. Weston are one of the best footballing sides in this league but we were disciplined in the most part and limited them to very few clear cut chances.

With ten minutes to go i would have happily accepted a point but the two late goals were very welcome. I was not sure about the substitutions at all (especially Fish) but shows what I know as two of them scored! Adigun was a threat throughout and has been impressive in the last two games. At this level it's very important to get the loan signings right and they have to be important players who improve your team. Jury is still out for me on Kennedy (although he was very good last week) but certainly Adigun, Fish and Di Trolio have made a big difference.

Kudos to the new management team as well who have got us well organised, competitive in every game and much more resilient than we were earlier in the season. While Rod Stringer is the front man the contribution of Kevin Watson shouldn't be overlooked and, to be fair, the manager regularly acknowledges his input.

Another tough away game on the cards on Tuesday but we can give anyone a game at the moment. Confidence should be high and hopefully a good turnout of away fans will be there to support the team.

Up the Wings!

A great result after an average performance, but rather that than the seemingly endless list of Danny's games where we were "arguably the better team" but ultimately came away with nothing. This was my first game attended under Rod. The most noticeable thing is that we are bigger and physically stronger almost everywhere on the pitch. I remember some of the early games under Danny - Worthing away springs to mind - where we played lots of pretty football but absolutely powder puff in certain key positions, especially through the spine of the team. Fish is everything we didn't have up top, and we are now muscling up all of the pitch which is good to see. Weston were by far the better team in the second half, but on the break we always looked like we had the physicality in certain situations to do something......we almost played like the away team at times, but ultimately it produced 3 points

Now for the downside. The interview afterwards was a PR disaster. I don't give up anywhere near the time and effort of some on here but driving from Harlow for home games normally means an hour each way (more if there's the usual fun and games at the bridge on a Saturday), I don't drink these days anyway, so to have someone who has been here 5 minutes try and tell me what it takes to be a proper fan is both insulting and a major PR own goal. If he wants to talk to me about personally, I'd be very happy to put him straight on that point. Stick to managing the team - you're doing a good job so far mate. Don't screw it up by acting like a knob and telling people what constitutes good support and what doesn't.

I remember Treacle wrote a post here some time ago, when in passing he mentioned he plays football in a team, and I remember being so impressed with the post as it showed such football intelligence, and wished he'd post more, as the playing perspective is so useful.

I feel a bit like a detective investigating a crime scene, talking and listening to everyone to try to work out why things with Danny didn't work out better for us, as he came in off the back of 3 top 8 finishes in a row, so I was expecting us to also succeed with Danny, yet we had all these great performances that didnt transfer into great results. So why?

Treacle makes a really thought provoking comment about the spine of the team. I hadn't thought about that before, and that is why I love this forum and talking with fans at games, as there are so many new things to learn or consider. And on reflection Treacle's spine point is so accurate. I have talked about Danny's departure with lots of Welling folk, and several have summed it up, "It's a results business". The same with say, our spine, thinking of the current midfield Jason is fantastic, knocking up though balls for strikers to run onto, as he understands an assist is just as important as whoever actually puts it in the back of the net, and he's scored. Yet looking back to Dominic and James Vaughan, their vision in passing was usually passing the ball out wide, and not looking for forward passes, and not getting in striking positions themselves. Sonny's role in the spine in attack speaks for itself. And defensively our spine is fine as we hardly concede any goals right down the middle of the pitch, and Rod has been fantastic at stopping us conceding so much from crosses, or giving away stupid free kicks in dangerous areas, which Danny, Warren and Norman Wisdom aka Peter Taylor before him had never worked out how to do.

Not the best performance against Weston Super Mare I thought we looked a little tired and they were playing the better football with good passing and movement. I was happy with the 1-0 HT scoreline. I guess it was inevitable they would equalise and deservedly so but what I like about our 'new' team is we never give up and don't know when we are beaten. To score 2 goals on the break at the death was amazing. I don't think we deserved to win but I'll take it all day long.

Verdict: The mark of a good team is to grind out a result when you don't play well
