I think this season is nuts, when we were down near the bottom we played like a play off team. Now we're midtable we play like a relegation team. But we will get better again, as this is such a young squad, most today early 20s,, so all still learning.

This squad has two games to as you say get better. As we havent made the playoffs lol the season ends on April 20th. The loan players return to their parent clubs. The few contracted players will almost certainly be contracted for just season 2023/24. They and all the other players on non contract terms will then be free agents at the end of the season. Rod Stringer will have to work around his budget to invite the players he wants to stay. The players will do whatever is best for them. Id say probably 4 maybe 5 of the current squad will be with Welling Utd next season. Hopefully we can get the likes of Adigan and Fish back on loan but I doubt it.

For the good of his over typed fingers Hopefully Jimmie will find another club too

Last 4 games 1 goal conceded , 2 wins 2 draws , put the final nail in two teams coffins .Doesnt read like a team struggling

We have struggled going forward without Sonny Fish there is no doubt but our defence has been immense. We were however too shot shy and our set pieces remain very poor.

A good point last night, the kind of game we'd have lost earlier in the season.

I thought we were taking too many touches and not being quick enough to pass the ball around. Every time we allowed the ball to come to us or took that extra touch the ball got away as the pitch was playing quite quickly. Yes we are struggling for goals at the moment but we're not getting a striker this late in the season. As long as our defence does its job a point is fine.

A few months back I thought this game might have been a relegation decider. Didn't need to win it really, which is a huge compliment to the management team and players.

We haven't played as well in attack since Sonny left, but it is important.to keep him in context, he was with us for only 10 of our 36 league games, and scored 6 of our roughly 60 league goals, so we kept ourselves afloat without him, and his goals made a.4 point difference to our scores, . Sso we haven't conceded much since he went, but not scored much either, and struggled against Dover and Havant.

I like to make my own mind up about people, so finally had a chat with Rod to get a first hand idea about him, and am so impressed as he is so realistic and grounded. He has done great with no preparation this year, so looking forward to him having time now to build his own squad over the summer.

Havant wasn't a great game last night, the conditions weren't good but that's true for both teams. If it were a boxing match Havant would have won on points. Nonetheless we got another vital point in our march to safety. I think we are there now I think we were when we passed 50 points but hopefully a home win against Weymouth on Saturday will make it Mathematically certain. Our defence has been secure all season even under Danny Bloor, not very often being beaten by big margins. Reice Charles-Cook and Joe Ellul have made it stronger since they arrived. We have struggled consistently all season for goals. Tristian Abrahams did well as did Kain Adom but they have left to play at a higher level. Good luck to them. Sonny Fish was the answer and we do miss him but as was pointed out last night he wasn't our player so we have to live with. We do look a little toothless in attack but Rod Stringer knows that he isn't silly and is a good football manager. His interviews are always honest and frank. I pretty much see each game as he sees them. I would like to mention that all our defenders, goalkeepers have had a good season. Special mention to Anthony Grant, Kain Adom, Sonny Fish, Jason Adigun, Tristian Abraham and Antony Papadopoulos who have had positive impacts as midfield and forward players for us.

Verdict: Back to last night's game scrappy

Apart from a four goal margin of defeat at Bath and Torquay and a three goal margin of defeat at Truro and Braintree you are absolutely correct!

Last night was a tough watch. Conditions weren't great with a swirling wind and we seemed to be trying to walk the ball into the net rather than take on a shot..?? We have lost some potency in attack but, last night, we simply didn't hold the ball up front or pass the ball well enough.

However our three centre backs all played well individually and collectively. Three clean sheets out of four is a good return and will guarantee you at least a point. One more to add to the tally last night and that should hopefully be enough barring a very strange sequence of results.

Up the Wings!

Fish not in squad again for Gateshead tonight. What a waste of a loan. Could have scored a few more goals at Welling and ended the season on a high. Crawley made a mistake in making the move.
