Checked them out. Play at Mile End Stadium which is shown as a 9 minute walk from Limehouse Station. It also looks like it has a running track round the pitch.

Win this one on Wednesday evening and we are at home to either Met Police or Bromley. Seems league clubs entered this season are Charlton U23, Brentford B, Orient and Wombledon in addition to Bromley.

Dump of a stadium with an awful pitch sounds attractive to me, I'm going, it's quite close to a DLR station, and for all I know if we lose it may be the last game for another 4 of our players! But sherioushly folksh, this should be winnable, so could be the start of an excellent October for us, as the player releases show Rod clearly means business.
I don't fancy the Met Police in the next round though, they may still be investigating and searching for an unknown pitch invader from the 1980s...

We would also be at home in the quarter final (potentially against Brentford B) and semi final.

Well... it's a team from Step 4 James and seriously close to one of your 'other' teams. The five way scarf may be in order tomorrow night? A number of people have enquired why our Mr.Westside is obsessed with the encroachment of approximately 250 football fans of various ages (including a teenage poet & one or two other Welling residents!). Our Johnny obtained this information from my solitary reply, explaining etiquette via PM, to an unsolicited PM. Hardly an 'unknown' pitch invader. Suggestions have included Mr. Hartley having his collar felt by the Met (oooh the 'iron'(y)) at Upton Park during a failed pitch invasion to one too many Nelsons in SE9 after being exposed in relation to a certain FA Cup tie and attending a relatively local game elsewhere. Boredom (Wood) has also been suggested. D*rtford fan cannot be ruled out now JCL knows the long and winding road to Princes Park.
Well, our 'average' statistician (come on James, your standards are dropping to say the least) will be shocked to hear that it is no longer a requirement to be a Police Officer to play for the Met Police football team. It's been that way for quite a while. My skipper never wanted me to have time off...
What about your team Bromley though, Johnny? Knocking out all those imaginary Police Officers would be perfect for you. Long live the South Bank, eh Johnny? Remember...

Brentford 'B' will not forget little old Welling United.
We've injury problems, so releasing 4 players seemed odd, but thinking more about it, since we've had injury problems we've only won one of our last 5 games, and had some really poor defeats, letting in 3 or more in 3 of these recent games, so it suggests the fringe players coming in were some way below the regular starters.
And it doesn't really make much sense having lots of fringe players who one can't rely on to do a sound job if they come in. So replacing them with guys one has more confidence in makes sense
And it isnt much point for the fringe players to be fringe players, as football is all about playing games, so much better for them to go to another team where they will get a regular game. Taylor Curran is a sound example of this, he was usually a reserve or not in our squad, now he is an automatic starter for Cheshunt, benefitting from playing week in week out, as part of his problem with us is he wasn't as match fit as the opponents he faced as he played so much less than them. So the 4 releases were a surprise, but makes lots of sense once one thinks about, win win for us and the players.
The interesting thing to see is how much further does the releasing go? Rod's playing fringe players against Bengal tonight, it will be an unexpectedly competitive match, as it reminds me of the Chatham situation - us higher up in the league fielding a team unused to playing together as they have been thrown together because of injuries, against a lower team that is settled and experienced at playing together. But time will tell if some of tonight's fringe players get released, for some of them it will not just be this game at stake, but also their Welling future, so looking forward to going to Bengal tonight and seeing how the fringe players approach the game and then any future release decisions, as it still feels to me there are just one or two players still that dont really affect our games enough when they play.
Sadly Romeo Beckham rejected the Brentford offer of a contract extension, in favour of a fashion career, so we won't have David Beckham back at our ground, avoiding attention by making an attention seeking exit.
TBH I left at the start of the second half as I had not put enough in the parking machine. First half was dire and I had visions of Sheppy and Sevenoaks with the curse of the S team again. Luckily I was proved wrong and looks like I missed a decent second half. Not been to that stadium before and I sincerly hope I will never have to visit it again. My backs killing me from not having a proper seat with backrest. At least Rod has had a chance to see how players are performing before Saturday.

It was a tough watch tonight for 60 minutes but I enjoyed the last half hour. Anointed made a huge impact (setting up our first goal with possibly his first touch of the ball) and I thought Cam Andrews and Elliot Long looked really lively when they came on. It was also great to see Johnson and especially Daniel Martin back on the pitch. We've really missed Martin's energy. Disappointed with Martel and Carty, as we didn't really have any threat up top.
Looking at the new players, I thought Osew showed flashes, especially when attacking and coming inside but hopefully there is more to come as he settles into the side.
Bergkamp looked good on the ball but seemed to be lacking a bit of sharpness. Hopefully he'll buy into what Rod and Kev are building and he could grow into an important player for us in the middle of the park.
I was impressed with Lankshear. For a debut in a new team he was composed and looked good on the ball.
At the end of the day it was a win and a good opportunity for Rod to see the team back in competitive action after the shambles at BW.
A poor first half, maybe reflecting negatively on the fringe players involved, as we looked miles sharper in the second half when more regular starters came on as subs and we finally started playing to our strength of moving the ball around quickly. Apart from a 5 minute spell in the second half where the opposition briefly got into overdrive we matched them or were better, and looked better defensively than in recent games. Bearing in mind we were a rather thrown together team unused to playing together, against Bengal's settled team, this 3 - 0 win was a really good result. Had a very quick post match chat with a player just for a player perspective, as that's always educational to me, and he was happy, saying good to keep the fitness up after the break, good to keep a clean sheet.
Mardell was a contradiction, didn't do much at all, but then scored, after a great pass from Anointed, who's really improved as the season goes on, quicker, and more decisive and linking up with players around him, and scored a great goal, so an assist and a goal in the short time he played was cool. Carty looked much better than Mardell in attack for me, good positional sense, leading the line, on the shoulder of the last defender, lots of closing down, but once again there wasn't much creativity in passes to our strikers to run onto in the first half, so he didn't really have any supply. I guess Rod played a couple with an eye to possible releases, giving them a chance to keep their place in the squad, as some of the players have had limited game time so far, so presume there may be some doubts about them.
Not sure if it is a coincidence we had a big improvement in second halves at Boreham Wood and this game when Elliot came on, it feels like his movement and passing greatly improves our team link ups. Max Staham is one of my all time favourite Welling players, so great to see him back and already so effective. Teddy Perkins got a bad injury, but looked reliable until then.
Looking at Bromley site still showing their under 23 team as playing yesterday. Cannot find any results and the Met are playing today in league. Google showing match as being on 16th December but no other details can be found.
