A great balanced review from Mark, I wish I could be as balanced. Not that I have any bias against the Farnborough manager after years of watching his team (self editing, delete che_ ting) artfully manipulate their way through matches, but if they manage to beat us by scoring from conning the ref into awarding them dodgy free kicks and penalties, and then their manager comes out in his post match interview and says they deserved to win as they outplayed us, then he brings the game into even more disrepute than the ref for last week's Bath game! The idea Farnborough could get promoted is unbearable, we must win! Though highlights of this season show they are good going forward, so let's hope they don't fall back to dirty tricks. Even though they are not local, for the above reasons this is one of the matches I most want us to win each season.

Great comeback after the poor defending for their first goal. Welling's 4th goal was a ricochet of their defender

When we went a goal down, I expected the worst.
Rod has got a team that work, something we havent had for a number of years.
Nice ball to feet football that allowed some lovely balls into the box.
It worked today, but didnt at Bath last week.
My MoM, difficult to call.
If shove come to push, number 21 Martin
Very impressive and very happy
Really liked the post match DJ in the marquee.
Nice afternoon out.

Fab result, the guys had a really impressively effective pre-season fully preparing us for the league campaign, match fitness and getting the players used to playing together, so early season wins are the pay off for all the hard work over the summer and clever early signings to avoid the triallistitis of previous managers. Rod had play off form when he took over last season, fascinating to see how we do with a full season with Rod. So far it is looking good!

Anointed's goals before joining us were scored in the box, so it was a puzzle why he played so deep for us pre-season, as he forgot to play to his strengths of sharpness in the box. He still plays much deeper than his fellow striker, so wasnt always in position to join attacks, but his two goals today were in the box, so hopefully he'll start to play higher up more as a target man. This was a big step up on his pre-season form, this is a higher level than he has played before, so will take time to adjust to the quicker pace of this league, but a promising NLS debut, he couldn't do better than scoring on it!

Early days yet, so too early to read too much into things, but this could be a open division this season, lots of teams evenly matched, as after 4 games only 4 teams are unbeaten. We are 9th, with a game in hand over teams above us, and would have been 2nd or 3rd if we'd played and won that game in hand. Beating Farnborough 4 - 1 who at kick off were unbeaten and top of the table is great, an enjoyable games for us when you know the opposition manager will find it hard to come up with positives from the game. Credit to them for playing a genuine game with no gamesmanship. And nice to have a result not affected by a poor ref. Great stuff from us!

I missed the first 2 goals due to traffic in Dartford! The 2nd and 3rd were a really good play of football on the ground. Unfortunate for Farnborough for the 4th but that is football sometimes. A very good performance today and up the wings. The fan zone was still busy post match which was really good to see and I hope it continues. Let's hope the weather improves for the next home game and beer sells out! Otherwise; see all the fans at Hornchurch where they will be looking to improve on their away loss to Slough. I have all the confidence we'll get the 3 PTS!

I thought todays game was really groovy. Some of our play was far out man. Psychedelic even. After going behind to a complete mess up at the back you would have thought the negative vibes would have affected us bro. But chill dude it only gave us a cosmic lift and we played some fab football after that. Many of the dudes and chicks supporting Welling Utd were spaced out at the way we disposed of those Farnster dudes and went home very happy. Played some Lovin Spoonful tracks on my 8 track on the way home to my pad. Peace and love people.

Unfortunately couldn't make the match today but obviously really pleased with the victory. After reading the comments and listening to Rod's interview it is clear that the team worked hard and thoroughly deserved to win the game.

Also, listening to Spencer Day's assessment of the game on Farnborough FC TV, it is evident that this guy is fully prepared to give his honest opinion about the match. He has had his 'ups and downs' over the years but has been doing a pretty decent job at Farnborough.

A very strong performance today. Recovered from an early set back when we went behind to a goal from the league leaders in the 4th minute. A year ago under Danny Bloor we would have folded and collapsed. Not so under Rod Stringer we kept playing our football full of energy and bags of effort. Good pass and movement game. We got the result we deserved Welling played very well today. In the first home game I saw our defence was really strong but I wondered where the goals might come from this season. Today though I thought Chukwu and Taylor-Crossdale worked very well together as a partnership and we could have scored more goals.

To be fair to Spencer Day he congratulated Welling and said we gave them a bloody nose and were the better team fully deserving our win.

Man of the match for me was between Taylor-Crossdale, Chukwu and Martin. I would at a push give it to Chukwu just because he played the 90 minutes the other 2 didn't. It was that tight a call.

Verdict: A brilliant performance from the whole team. Congratulations lads

Always happy to admit to a mistake, so really impressed with the Farnboroughs manager Spencer surprisingly extremely honest post match interview, Spencer Day Post Welling United (A) (youtube.com) www.youtube.com/watch Farnborough fans expected him to roll out excuses, but instead he frankly says how poorly they played, congratulates us on how well we played and says about us their front 2 ran us ragged. Cool! He mentions our "hill" quite a lot, but hands off, it's ours, he can't have it!

Loved Rod's interview too, setting high standards, which is great after previous managers were happy with constant underperformance and mediocrity so never really changed things.

Great performance yesterday.

Can people refrain from constantly having a dig at Danny Bloor. He tried his best with a low budget, as did Peter Taylor.

We have now an experienced,  proven manager combined with an owner who seems to be investing money in the squad which is a combination I have not known in over 30 years of supporting the club (with the exception of Steve Kings year in charge). Its just up to the club/supporters to get more punters through the gate to make it more sustainable.

I haven't seen anyone having a dig at Danny, just people giving a fair and accurate reflection of why he was so unsuccessful for us.

As for operating in a limited budget, from what I have heard he had a budget, then overspent it by around 30%, and still carried on failing. The bottom line is, as several people have said to me when I have asked them what went wrong with Danny, as I was curious as he had been so successful with Eastbourne, so was interested to work out why it had gone so badly wrong for him with us, it is a results business, and his results weren't good enough, so he had to go. And that is not a dig, just an accurate reflection. And there was nothing to suggest anything was ever going to improve with him.

As to why his results werent good enough, he clearly didnt realise his hopeless sticking to only playing 1 up front was disasterous, his playing the same team in the same formation was disasterous. His reliance on his coaching team who couldn't give him the answers to our problems was disasterous. His inability to solve our inaccuracy in front of goal was disasterous. He never had the answers to our problems, always puzzled why our effort didnt lead to better results, and is a nice guy, great at PR, just lacking in tactical ability, just a reliance of putting in lots of effort. There are lots of bluffers in football, some get caught out quickly, others take longer to get found out. It was "Up the Borough" with Eastbourne, "Up the Wings" with us, "Up the U" with Hastings, but it's a results business, not a popularity contest. Having said this, Danny did a great job in reuniting the club and fans after the previous toxicity, and brought back a feel good factor about us.

Back to the subject of this thread....

What an enjoyable afternoon! Farnborough couldn't deal with the pressing that we employed. The work rate in each game has been superb, and win lose or draw, that's all we ask for.

Difficult to single out a man of the match for me but I was impressed with Chiori, Anointed, Dan Martin, Martello, Kennedy and the Keeper. I wasn't sure on Gene after last season but he's really stood out in pre-season and the first few games.
