I've often seen Mark Doig at matches, but he's so busy I didn't want to interrupt him. But pre-season games are less pressurised, so at a pre season games I had a really nice chat with Mark, chiefly to apologise for my totally misguided silly complaint early on when I started following Welling that he was too favourable towards us in his match reports, as over time I realised Mark is a fantastic Welling fan, like Nigel on Radio Wings, both saying it exactly as he sees it, and that's a reasons I like Welling so much, as we live in a modern world where we're not allowed to think what we think, everything has to be PC neutral, but Welling is a rare and totally refreshing example of people saying what we think, with only Wallop sugarcoating things, particularly his admiration for the deep and lasting legacy of departed Chief Executive Sian.
God knows what I was thinking of when I complained about Mark, looking back, I certainly don't, for example, here's a Mark piece from January, which, as ever, was spot on, no spin, and why I love this team and all involved with it so much, as there is no place for uncommitted lightweights here, on or off the pitch, and that makes us special.
"More misery for relegation-haunted Welling United as they suffer third straight National League South loss.
Early defensive blunders proved costly as Welling crumbled to their third consecutive home defeat.
Having gone three months unbeaten at the J Hearnden Skip Hire Community stadium, they have since been beaten at home by Eastbourne Borough, Dartford and now Aveley. Their 4-1 victory over league leaders Yeovil Town is now a distant memory and they are eight points adrift of safety with games starting to run out."
I shall leave it up to others to dissect the game but that was an awful performance. Shaky in defence, non existent in midfield and, up to the last knockings, one shot on goal all game (and that was a defender). The referee and the linesman on the main stand side were awful but that had no effect on the result, Chesham were far better than us in work rate, penatration and will to win. Rod has accepted the plaudits in the past and I am sure he will accept that this was not up to standard. Everyone is entitled to a bad day at the office, let's hope it is a one off.
The man of the match was our goalkeeper and he had 3 scored past him, just about sums the game up.

In three words I can sum up everything i've learnt in life; it goes on.
I thought the other day I've never seen us play a bad game under Rod, well I certainly have now. I saw Warren Feeney and Mark Goldberg watching the match, so I kind of expected us to have a bad day! The first and third conceded goals were both from defensive mistakes of not simply whacking the ball out of the penalty area, as by now in several games we have conceded goals from not clearing decisively. In the first half our passing was uncharacteristically poor, I don't think we strung even 3 passes together, even simple passes went wrong. Passing improved a bit second half. We didnt have any shots on target, not even sure if we had any shots at all.
So we didnt do the basics right today all over the pitch, poor defending, poor passing, and not getting in good shooting positions, and in football if you don't get the basics right you wont get anything from a game. Chesham weren't even that good, more a case of us being bad on the day. But I like Rod's frank post match interview, which is honest and accurate, unlike the opposition manager interview where he says the sending off didnt affect the match, and that they could have scored 7 or 8.

Today reminded me of a home game, many years ago, where we lost by a similar scoreline (either 0-3 or 1-3) to Clevedon Town in the F.A.Cup. It was like the team had been on the piss all night and were not fully committed. We never got going today against Chesham and their keeper made a good save towards the end of the first half to keep the score at 0-1. There is no doubt our keeper saved us from a really embarrassing scoreline, hence the MOM award.
It is rare for us to play this badly but we need to bounce back straightaway and get stuck in!
Nice to see Martin get his goal. Still showed enthusiasm even at 0-3.
Blaming defensive mix ups is a bit unfair in my opinion.
They were on the back foot all game due to midfield and attack not taking pressure off.
No movement in the midfield/attack and far too static.
Crossdale deserved to go, and hope he gets fined for that pathetic show.
That dive probably cost us a valid penalty at the other side of the 18 yard box.
Far too often you had a midfielder chasing the keeper back as both attackers appeared to be looking elsewhere.
If we could call on two other attackers for Monday nights game, I would.
The lowlights are posted, a strange game dividing opinions, a Twitter fan says we were outplayed by a brilliant side on the day, another fan called it a shocking performance against a really limited team, who will be down the bottom. After seeing the replays Ill stick by my immediate post match view about our lack of decisive clearance for 2 of the goals, but fair play to Chesham, their finishing for those two goals was good. To correct myself, we scored and had another shot on target, so offered some attack.
I remember a previous manager who always passed blame for poor performances onto players, saying they were inconsistent, too blind to see it was his job to make them consistent. The unexpectedly poor passing yesterday actually helps show how consistent we are with Rod, as apart from the 1 4 loss to Chippenham last season and this bad show against Chesham we have played consistently competitive, and 2 bad games in 5 months of football is remarkable.
I guess thats football, some days go ones way when everyone plays their best, hopefully just a few other days like yesterday hardly anyone does and one loses. Bath posted extended highlights of table topping Hemel, who we play on Monday, www.youtube.com/watch Hemel are quick on the break so a game for our defenders to be on our toes.
