Glad to see more than 4 stewards at today's game, however there's was 2 pitch evades both coming from the Torquay supporters end of the ground in the 2nd half.Ok they were on the pitch for a matter of seconds, but it shouldn't have happened. I thought the stewards were meant to watch the crowd at all times NOT stand around chatting to each other. Also they should watch the crowd for any medical issues NOT watch the match, which was the case today.
Let's hope the stewards do a better job than last week. As quoted in the matchday programme : Entering the field of play ANYTIME is strictly forbidden.
What a joke they all. I watched one 'WSM' fan kick the advertising board and damaging the board right behind the goal at the road end in the second half, 7 TIMES !!!. and the " security" were no where to be seen. Where did they give their SIA badge from Lidi??? And all the " security". were watching the match instead of the crowd. The club need to act on this and think about getting another team in, as these are useless.
Another poor show by the " stewards" please see yesterdays match reviews ( Enfield) and see what Luke had to say about them. The only good thing is the steward who did his job properly on the E&B stand by looking at the crowd and NOT the match.
I will speak to the board regarding the stewarding going forward. There have obviously been a few issues that need looking at. I think the stewarding by the main gate and turnstiles has improved and been very good recently
Very strange as one of the clubs staff was talking to me in shop doorway when a steward approached asking him about a person at vehicle entrance seeking entry. As I understood this person gained entry. Before we are critical of stewards we should ask the question what instructions they have received from the club regarding their duties. Perhaps the club should keep one turnstile open and not close everything up 15 minutes after kick off and maybe revert to opening the gates at start of second half.

Re what happened last night the reason the Steward did not let him in was he sore at the female stewar on the gat
Just to be clear this is nonsense. I was polite until they refused to go 30 seconds out of their way to get someone from the club and was being smirk saying theyre there to keep people like me out! They clearly have nothing better to do.
I also see a different steward literally get in someones face a few weeks ago for swearing and have heard a couple other stories. Get these degenerates out they clearly cause more harm than good.
Opening the gates for the second half is just not a good idea, as that happened under Barrie Hobbins rein and there was about 40/50 waiting outside waiting to see the second half for free, so unfair to those people who paid full price to get in. And how much money would the club lose if that happened ?.
Even ejecting one stupid kid sends a message to others that Welling United will not tolerate kids running onto the pitch. At least the stewards this season know what to do and were on the ball. Last season the previous bunch were far too busy collecting their litter pickers 15 minutes before final whistle.
Still think we should have turnstiles operating until second half kick off then open the gate. This seems to be normal practice in a lot of games I have been to recently. I know Gary has mentioned 40-50 people waiting at the gate previously to get in at half time free, what he failed to say this was in the 1980s not recently.

I dont want to comment on it too much as like I said, I wasnt there myself. But Im under the impression that the incident Im referring to was prior to any pitch invasion.
At least that finally gave them something worthy to do!
Just to be clear, NO club in our league opens the gates at half time. Also I told my learned Friend that I said it was in early 2004 that the gates use to be opened at halftime, Until I spoke to Barrie Hobbins about keeping them closed until 10/15 minutes from the end of the match, and I would be at the gates after finishing at the turnstiles. Where I used to operate them with my son for the past 20 years.

That would be because theyll still have a turnstile open. I disagree with opening the gate, you will have 20/30 p*ss takers weekly. However, if they want to pay they should definitely be allowed.
I was speaking to someone I know this morning who told me they couldnt get into the game the other week as he turned up 15 mins into game and the turnstiles were closed.
Considering we struggle to scrape a 500 crowd as it is, surely this needs looking at? I cant imagine any other team in the NLS are literally turning fans and revenue away! Even if its just to have someone on the turnstile until say the 35 minute mark, particularly for midweek fixtures as a lot of people have work commitments.
It makes me wonder how many other people have tried to pay for a ticket and watch Welling but have also been unable to.
whilst having the gates closed to avoid the non-payers getting access is understandable, there is a safety issue here. If, god forbid it, there was a fire 500+ people would be effectively imprisoned until the gates were unlocked. Surely they should be manned throughout even if it costs the club a few £s to pay someone?
That's what I used to do, stay at the gate from 1oclock until the end of the match but I had to give it up last season due to my hip replacement. But I have that done, I would be willing to take up that position again if asked to.

This is crazy, there are night games where I struggle to make kick when coming straight from work.

Fair play to you mate. It just seems crazy that people cant pay to enter in the first half. I cant imagine the club must leave a great impression on people either turning them away! Hopefully gets looked at.
My son has worked the gate almost every game this season and he stands there with the turnstiles open until 30 mins into the game. We even make a joke that we know its 30 mins into the game as he comes and joins us in the terraces. Anything after that is with the stewards. Maybe worth emailing the club to find out what the clubs official rules are for entering after that 30 mins.
