KM has the story re Pinno going to Margate and states that the wage gap was very significant. We also failed to sign Allan Tait from Canvey who has gone to Eastbourne
Shame, he always caused us problems when he was with Folkestone, would ahve been a good signing. Barney still says we are looking at over signings.
Beat me to it BKK so I deleted my thread and have posted it here.
I've just got my copy of the Extra which for some reason has started to arrive on a Wednesday again. It reports that the big spenders thwarted our attempts to sign Pins who has gone to Margate, Tait who has gone to Eastbourne, and Booth who has agreed terms with Lewes. Barney (PH) quoted as saying that we fell short by a couple of hundred pounds but that we still have targets. The debate about going for it at all costs and financial prudence will no doubt continue but I tend towards the latter and if we want to try and compete it must surely be at the cost of the size of the squad.
According to Barney, Pins was hungry to prove himself which gives credence to the comments made about him recently. It's a great shame that he couldn't have stayed and proved himself at PVR, which he in all probability would have done, being fit and having got the support of Ade in the form of a contact offer. Nevertheless I for one would like to wish him and his soon to be increased family all the best for the future.
Great quote from Barney at the end of the article. "You can feel sorry for yourselves or you can get on with the job. This is a big challenge and we can't wait to get our teeth into it again." Great to see that he still has that spirit and determination which kept us in the Conference for 14 years despite being the poor relations. I hope it proves to be as infectious now as it was all those years ago.

I tend to agree Bruno in that we need to exercise some prudence and it is a fine balance in going for it all guns blazing ala Leeds United and not achieving at the end of the season and being left with egg on our faces. A larger squad means people on the bench and still being paid (Daniel Moore?) but again trying to get things right. We have seen time and time again the Hornchurch of this world and it will be interestng to see what happens at Lewes, Fisher and particularily Margate if they are paying JP more than we were prepared to.
I saw socceraid last night and our ex Paul Parker, cant say I was that impressed compared to some others and he lumped one of the celebs right out of it.
Releatives went to Charlton to place their orders for season tickets today and heard from someone in the queue that PP was in the frame to replace Curbishley, God help them going on our experience.
