Thoughts from fellow Wings fans on squad update on Club website.
Seems a shame the "Annointed one" is released(leading goalscorer?) although Rod has been less than complimentary in a couple of post match interviews. Also appears limited funds available for any replacements?
Not sure what is going on, Kelly was one of the best players recently, Osew good at Slough, Chukwu missed a few, but miles better than Crossdale. Martin and Johnson still injured, along with Harvey Walker, means we are seriously weak, with a 6 pointer on Saturday. I assume the trialist left back (number 3) is joining as he was quite impressive.
Will we even be able to name a 16 man squad for Saturday? If Daniel Martin and Chiori are injured, I think that possibly leaves us with only 15 available players. It could be a long, cold winter.
My thoughts on the squad hatchet job:
- Disappointed to see Kelly and Osew go. They've been two of the most improved players in recent games.
- If Rhys gets injured again we are completely screwed!
- Ben Wells versatility in a small squad will be missed.
- Not surprised about Anointed as it was obvious Rod didn't fancy him, but he put a shift in, scored a few goals and can only keep improving with more minutes on the pitch.
Really need a couple of wins this week to bring some cheer because that announcement was depressing.
Going to need to play the first team squad tomorrow night in a pointless cup, when we need to stay in the league. Hope there are no injuries on an uneven Phoenix pitch.
What people need to understand is that getting rid of some players is easier than others. Therefore non contract players can be easier to shift before contracted players.
We all have our opinions on who we would keep and who we would release but it's not always as simple as that.
As long as the remaining players give their best every time they play then that's all we can ask. If they don't then that's a different matter....
Not sure what exactly this trial game was all about last week but maybe that could throw up a couple of young gems to supplement the squad going forward
