Sam Smith on loan from Dartford. I think this should be shirt number 65. Next one in and we reach state pensionbiggrin

For some of us of a certain age, state pension was awarded at 65!

Surprised we have signed a loan player from our neighbours, not considered good enough for their squad.

Also I recall a recent post match comment from Ryan where he indicated unlikely to be any more signings, since when we have signed 3 players (O'Keefe, Morgan and Smith)!

If someone comes up that may improve the squad, then you'd be silly not to have a look. I saw Sam Smith earlier in the season and thought that he looked quite good. I would guess that his loan period allows Ryan to see if he has the stomach for a relegation battle.

Maybe Mark, and I would be delighted if he is successful in helping to get some positive results.

It was less than 2 weeks ago, after the Canvey Island fixture  that Ryan made his comment about being happy with the squad. I know we have experienced two defeats since then but have things changed that much?

Id agree that to get a quality player in, on loan, should not be avoided. However the loan players are all, I think, on short term loans fine if covering for an injured or suspended team member - but this is not the case. Having mulled over last Saturdays debacle there is one aspect that has not been raised. There was nobody out there taking charge, no leadership, when the goalies made a mistake no one spoke to him, put their arm around him and told him to concentrate or whatever. From where I was standing, on the E&B touch line our players were generally silent, no shouts or warnings, perhaps with all the changes they didnt know other players names to give them a shout. So, I think, our 11 ended up being individual players rather than part of an integrated team.

rant over

The squad we started the season with were not great but is this team any better? I'm not so sure. John Ufuah is still our best player in my opinion.

I think this probably shows that in future it may be preferable to have players on contracts because that is what the better players want at this level (especially 2 year contracts). To be fair I think that was Brian Stathams strategy. Those players need to be scouted properly beforehand of course.
