States tonight that we are at home against Rushden and Diamonds ko 7.45pm
A call to the ground confirms no game. However the good news is that if you head out for the game on the back of the TV and find out that the ground is closed, console yourself in that it is Monday night cheap night in the New Cross Turnpike down the road.
Some team have 10 or 12 BUT thats too many, does anyone feel that 5 (and only 2 at home) is too few given the squad is being rebuilt and trialists are about.
I dont understand why we play Folkestone away when we could play a league team at home.
Remember when we used to get spurs x1s and arsenal x1 etc down. We would be better off playing Maidstone or dartford at home imo.
Would be nice to switch the friendlies around, im not sure how much we gain from Playing herne bay and Erith Town. Adie said when he came he would be working to get us some decent friendlies. Norwich, Ipswich, Bournemouth would do....
More than 2 at home anyway. That would bring in money (however little)
I think your right JGFC, we do need a different category of friendly maybe at a higher level but I think its difficult for all clubs.
Teams in the championship want to be tested against Premiership sides. Teams in the Premiership want to go on tours abroad to promote the club eg Charlton Chelsea, Man Utd. Thats not saying that we should be looking to play Chelsea, which would be nice but maybe teams above us who could give us a challenge eg Conf sides or div 2. When Kevin (INQ) Hales was here I think we played Orient and in the past we have played Millwall and Arsenal and Spurs. The difficulty is continuity of relationships. I am pretty sure that our link at Arsenal was George Armstrong but sadly when he passed away it fell by the wayside. Similarily with Millwall we had the pitch invaded, goals broken and I think chose not to play them. Thats not saying the damage was due to Millwall supporters but the club made a choice.
I was honestly fearful of the Charlton game not happening this year when the change in management team and their links with Gravesend who seem to have come into a few bob looking at the players they are signing.
Sadly though our relationship with Gravesend with Liam Daish and Ade's libel action with Gillingham may have closed some doors but maybe we do not to look a bit wider afield.
