i did say that they would send a weak team and that welling wouldnt say nothing so they get a nice crowd.. it was obvious when we never got a confirmed early date.

From charlton site (updated AFTER kick off)
A youthful Charlton side will take on Welling United at Park View Road this evening with just three senior Addicks set for action.
Record signing Jason Euell, striker Marcus Bent and centre-back Jonathan Fortune are the star turns against the Premiership club's Nationwide Conference South neighbours.
James Walker, who has matched Jimmy-Floyd Hassebaink's two-goal tally in pre-season to date, is up front alongside Bent and summer signing Simon Walton is alongside Fortune at the back.
Keeper Darren Randolph is between the posts at a club he spent time with on loan and exciting youngsters Lloyd Sam and Alistair John are also in the starting line-up.
Young striker Michael Carvill and Icelandic prospect Rurik Gislason make the bench while for the Wings former West Ham man and Northern Ireland international Keith Rowland is on the left of midfield.
Can we assume the close links signed last season are now worth nothing as theyve sent a crap team? Also feel sorry for gravesend!! they let their charlton pathetic ressies play at stonebridge road and cant get a game off them for pre season!
Time we went back to Tottenham X1s and Arsenal X1s methinks.

But it's only a friendly, accidents happen and ffs stop slating off your club and do them a favour by going to some games instead of sitting in your armchair slating everyone off and claiming to be some kind of multi-millionaire.
And you can have 1000/1 that being a charlton fan and not one of the welling anons....
Date: Wed 02 Aug 2006. Gary Haines reports from Park View Road
Charlton Wings clipped as neighbours ride high Welling picked up a Premiership scalping on Wednesday night as Charlton were upset by their near neighbours at Park View Road.
An own goal from Simon Walton in the first minute of the second half proved the difference between the two sides.
Defender Walton sliced a long clearance from Mark Goodfellow over Darren Randolph and into his own net in bizarre fashion just 20 seconds after the restart.
With Saturday's opponents New Zealand watching from the stand, Charlton could not find a way past home keeper Jamie Turner with the custodian even using his face to keep out a bouncing effort from Lloyd Sam.
Walton himself went closest to hauling his side level when his viciously-struck free-kick hit the outside rigging although the margin of defeat may have been larger had man of the match Steve Perkins not seen his first-half header bounce back off the bar.
It was a third defeat in four summer outings for Iain Dowie but it was an experimental side of youth with a smattering of experience that took to the field.
Indeed, the visiting line-up showed just three seniors in action.
Record signing Jason Euell, striker Marcus Bent and centre-back Jonathan Fortune were the star turns against the Premiership club's Nationwide Conference South neighbours.
James Walker, who has matched Jimmy-Floyd Hassebaink's two-goal tally in pre-season to date, was up front alongside Bent and summer signing Walton partnered Fortune at the back.
Keeper Randolph took his place between the posts at a club he spent time with on loan with exciting youngsters Alistair John and Lloyd Sam patrolling the right side.
As well as the experienced and the up-and-coming there was a continental flavour with Charlton fielding two trialists in midfield in the shape of Spaniard Xavier Farinos and Costa Rican Christian Bolanos.
Young striker Michael Carvill and Icelandic prospect Rurik Gislason made the bench alongside two more trialists from the Ivory Coast, Ismael Fofana and Me Aboucar Diomande.
Bolanos' second minute effort was beaten away by Jamie Turner but there was little significant goalmouth action in the opening stanza.
Indeed it was the 19th minute when the visitors registered their second shot although Farinos' scuffed drive was well off target.
Two minutes later a drive from Sam bounced awkwardly in front of Turner and the ball bounced off the keeper's face before being scrambled clear.
It was Welling who carved out the best chance to date in the 27th minute.
Jamie Day floated in a free-kick from the right and centre-back Steve Perkins rose highest with his looping header bouncing off the bar with Randolph scrambling back.
Bent spun and fired high over the bar after good work from the skilful Bolanos on the left and then dragged a shot well wide four minutes before the break.
The game sprung to life right on half time when Bolanos breezed past his man and sent a delightful cross across the face of goal.
Sadly there was no-one in the middle to finish off his good work but the chance had not disappeared.
The ball eventually fell to Walker and the striker shifted one way and then the next before feeding Sam whose well-struck effort was blocked by Turner and after yet more penalty box pinball Welling eventually cleared the danger.
Ivorian striker Fofana replaced Bent at the interval but the Addicks found themselves behind in crazy fashion less than 20 seconds after the restart.
Wings right-back Mark Goodfellow delivered a long hopeful ball forward in search of either Che Stadhart or Danny Kedwell, but instead Walton connected on the volley and watched in horror as the ball looped over the advancing Randolph and dropped into the vacant net.
Walton almost atoned for his clanger in the 51st minute when Euell was upended right on the edge of the box.
The defender let rip with a dipping, swerving effort that hit the left hand rigging and dropped behind.
Fortune headed a Sam corner well over before Turner rescued his side in the 70th minute, plunging to his left to turn away a low drive from Farinos.
At the other end Randolph produced an equally good stop to divert an effort from Luke Holmes round his left upright after some slick build-up play.
Farinos sent a fierce drive whizzing just past the upright and Gislason did the same on the run with a shot that fizzed past the opposite post as the Addicks sought a leveller.
Carvill replaced Sam for the closing nine minutes and the visitors went close when Bolanos cut inside and drove just over the bar from 20 yards.
It was that kind of night for the visitors, though, and the Wings held firm to complete a notable victory ahead of their own Conference South opener.

Perkins given man of match according to addicks site, is he back on fire again? What happened when Vines came on did he go right back or center half. Do we look ok in midfield?? Or a bit iffy? How is keds looking? Is Che looking sharper.

Having sent a weakened side, though lest we forget they were reserves and trialists for a Premier League side, Charlton paid the price and suffered their 3rd defeat in 4 matches and the cries of Dowie out could be heard from the PVR terraces.
It has to be said that after the opening 5 or 10 minutes Welling looked comfortable and played some nice football and it remained so until the last 5 or so minutes when Charlton tried throwing everything at us. Selecting man of the Wellings MoM match must have been a nightmare such was the determination and effort shown by all the players who started the match - though I personally would have gone for Daisy there can't be any argument with the choice of Perks it was that close.

They are slagging off Murray and Dowie on their forums, also saying they didnt expect to pay £10 for a reserves game, one blke walked out before half time.
I think as rightly pointed out, all of the Charlton players on the pitch are full time footballers. Massive credit to Welling who dug deep for a good result. Not to forget that in the second half we also put on plenty of trialists/non first-teamers.
As A Charlton season ticket holder I was as you can imagine far from impressed by our showing last night. Marcus Bent seemed totally disinterested and from a Charlton perspective only Lloyd Sam came out with any credit. Apart from the bizzare own goal I thought that Walton seemed solid but lacked a bit of pace. As for Welling I was hugely impressed. May and Boateng were an excellent combination in the middle of the park, Kedwell looked bright up front and the two centre halves were very solid. My sons plays for the Welling U18's and I have seen from the pre-season training that Addie Pennock has got a good spirit rinning through the team and he has you very organised and working hard for each other. I have seen a lot of gripes and sniping on this site before the season has started. Well from my perspective I feel that Welling have a lot to look forward too this season if you can keep hold of Addie I am sure that you will do well (I am also fairly confident that Charlton will not struggle this year)
