KYL Under 18’s Signings

The under 18’s have strengthened their side with the signing of 2 new players.

Year 1
Jack Gyamfi-Badu a strong footballing centre half. Jack played for JEFC (Jason Euell F.C) last season and got to the last two for a 2 year YTS with Southend United.

Year 2
Gabriel Odunaike a striker who is very quick (matches Rishi for speed). Gabriel played for Hampton & Richmond last season. Has an excellent first touch and all the tricks!!!

Keep watching this space for news of further signings.

Good news. I take it the Year 2 lad is basically getting an extended trial at the club. I would imagine we will see him on the bench for the first team at some stage this season. Baring in mind that we will eventually get a reserves team from the lads who out grow the youth set up and who are retained.

good luck to the two new lads.

Very much an U18 KYL player but I understand wanted to play for Welling United. One of many quality players who have applied to join a squad who to a man would like nothing better than to don a first team shirt.

Talk of a the formation of a reserve side is a bit previous in my opinion but was quoted as being an objective for 2007/8 by Gone Fishing who attended the official launch of Welling United Youth on 6 May this year. Going on what I saw last season and the quality of the signings (I expect there to be news of another couple), it is my belief that players from Ken's side could easily produce the nucleus of a reserve side.

Ken's lads are a very different side to last season's U18's and I fully expect to see some of them getting a run out in the County Cups with at least a sporting chance of acquitting themselves now that they are training with the 1st team. A stark contrast to last year when 4 of them as U16's and completely unknown to Ade and the other players (who largely came from the then U18 side) made appearances. Nothing would please me more than to see one or two make the bench this season, not quite true - sorry Ken and the lads but gaining promotion would top it. More realistically maybe next season when they've had a year at U18 in the KYL and perhaps some County Cup and pre season friendly experience.
