Please excuse my ignorance but anyone know why there was a 4th Official at PVR yesterday?

I thought this a strange one as well, but when I questioned it was told that we have had them before but they have not been as obvious as the guy yesterday merely sat on the sideline and threw the balls in etc and did not go out with the line up

I think the 4th official was there as a sub in case the ref died. He looked about 105 years old.

Now thats unfair he did not look a day over 104.

Saying we have had a forth official before could that have been when young Barry used to hold up the board indicating how many minutes of extra time were to be played?

All explained and taken from the official site

Slightly off topic but a fourth official was present on Saturday. However, he was only present as a standby. The scheduled referee was caught in traffic and it looked likely he would not arrive in time. A local referee was called up but the scheduled official made it on time so the standby was used as a fourth official
