An Open Message to Ade (and the players)

Ade

I have just heard your post match interview and can fully appreciate your 'rant and rave' as you put it about websites when it comes to slaughtering players as has happened in the last 2 match reports in WIE which were at least signed.

As anyone regularly reading this forum will confirm I defend to the hilt people’s right to free speech since I have made several postings on the matter and I fully accept that this will give me problems from time to time as moderator.

With regard to the anonymous personal and scathing attacks made in postings on this forum go I have to say that as far as I am aware they have all been countered by posts from those of us who are not afraid to put our names to what we post. I do, however, honestly believe that on balance postings on the forum are supportive of both you and the team – that does not mean that there should not be criticism when things are going badly, people pay their money week after week and are entitled to express their opinion of what to put it crudely they have bought. If I might make my point about criticism, I used the word appalling in respect of the team performance in my post about the Clevedon game and I felt easier about what I consider to have been my justified criticism when this was a term used by you yourself in the local press several days later. I totally agree that the criticism of one player in particular after the Clevedon game was OTT, as were the comments made at the match, and I personally addressed those matters on this forum.

I believe that as suggested in your post match interview there are a ‘couple of idiots’ who are behind the anonymous postings, though I believe the number has decreased since they made an organised attempt to try and force me to shut down the forum when it was handed to me by Tom (JgFc) and the Saturday when I know you were pointed in the direction of the forum though by whom I do not know.

My message is simple and is that almost exclusively those contributing to or just visiting this forum are behind both you and your team 110%. The anons are a pain in the a**e and I believe are encouraged by a certain party (who has to remain nameless as I have no actual proof). Beyond heavy handed and dictatorial censorship I'm not sure what the answer to them is but one thing I do know is that I will not contemplate closing the forum which was visited over 25,000 times last month. Fair, and sometimes unfair, criticism of a poor performance is a fact of life, particularly for those in high profile activities such as sport. The OTT criticism's which have appeared have been countered by identifiable individuals and I would hope that the players could take heart from this - anonymous criticism = a gutless individual, a nobody and they are certainly not worth losing sleep over.

I will be at the game on Thursday and will make a point of going into the Wings bar afterwards, something I have never really indulged in. I’m sure you know who I am and I would be more than happy to discuss your concerns further with you or any of the players face to face.

Well done Bruno. Its great to see an honest an open approach although I believe that this  is probably a storm in a teacup and Ade would probably like to move on having said his peace.

Feedback as they say be it to an individual or in this case a player should be taken as a positive provided its constructive, saying so and so is crap is not constructive. I have said that some players we have on occassions could have seen better of and hopefully they will continue to move on. Mark Goodfellow for example has been picked out but although I wasn't at this weekends game he was singled out for a fine performance, so we need to pick out the good things as well as things we need to work on.

The line here is maybe customer's or supporters. We all support the club but pay hard earned cash for our entertainment. If that entertainment is not up to standard does that give us the right to criticise as a customer?

One thing for sure, lets park it all, it was then and this is now and whatever we do we cannot change what has gone on but we can change what is about to happen. If we continue to bellyache and not get behind the team it starts from a negative perspective. If we start positively the lads have a chance to move in the right direction and prove that this is indeed a blip.

The problem is not with this moderated forum but the reports on an unofficial site that really dished it out to at least 5 players in recent weeks because they think its funny. The players read all the sites and they need to know the unofficial site is just one persons opinion and its one person ripping into individuals.

Having said that its good that you have made the above post concerning messages that appear on here criticising..

I am not sure a rather long 'open letter' was required at all

People have the right to criticise be it here, at work or indeed with the misses at home as long as it is CONSTRUCTIVE.

When the players don the red shirt as long as 100% is give (which of course may not be good enough in certain games) then they have 99% of the Welling support behind them (The other 1% are irellevent and basically should be ignored as I know that Adie does)

BUT

After a game we are all free to dissect the game, say who has underperformed, who has had a great game etc etc.

Have a look at ANY other forum and you will see exactly the same thing.

It is NOTHING to do with anon postings as many a posting on here has been done with a name (albeit a made up one that does NOT identify the person) that has criticised the players, club, owners, fans, tea bar, WSU, floodlights, wrong type of beer, wrong coloured loo rolls etc etc etc

It is a matter of freedom of speech that is (or should be) part of our constitution.

Any Independent site and I guess that you are slating WIE (which incidently has the best reports in terms of fact, humour etc) has as much right to summarise a game as this one or the Official one does. This site is not averse to a good slagging off of anything that moves so is therefore not as angelic as you think it is.

Adie knows who the true supporters are, as do the players

I will also be in the bar on Thursday if anyone would like to discuss futher

What a load of rubbish

Adie knows who the true supporters are? Who do you think you are. Yopu are disagreeing with adrian then who has said he is disgusted with comments on websites after clevedon slagging players off. That would be Russ, so is he a true supporter or is it ok for true supporters to slate the players.

Lets see Russ go to Adie, Phil, Che, Bods, Ellis, Guesty, Mooro, JT and say. Hi i am Russ and a true supporter and i write the reports on WIE.

Thats a shocking post Mark and just shows how much of a yes man you are. Sorry but thats an incredible post mark. The manager indirectly complains about WIE and cos you like russ and see your self as a TRUE fan you back him up and insinuate that Adie knows who true fans are!!

Cant you read or hear? Adie said it was a disgrace! Stop the spin mark... Everyone can see who Adie is not happy with. Dont try and make out it never happened and that you are true fans above everyone else.

Thats another disgrace.

LOL Mark, just read the 99% rubbish. ADE WAS CRITISICING RUSS and lumped him in as one or two idiots!

Mark wake up and dont say everyone else is the problem as you will look very silly. Russ' report wasnt constructive if it was spiteful, ridicule and its been noticed by the manager.

Stick to the facts mate. Dont lump anonymous people (who YOU were one of under a different name until people told you to stop!!!!) posting on here with the abuse on sites mentioned by Ade that hammered individuals in last few weeks in their "humourous true fan" reports

Youve just made yourself look silly mark and everyone will see it. People having agendas and posting anon are wholly seperate from named people taking the pi.ss out the players on a websote and your comments are laughable, what planet do you live on? Do you get a special gold colour season ticket and a sausage roll for being a true fan.

Well thanks for that - I feel honoured

If you read the post properly I am defending ANYONES right to criticise the team constructivly

Sorry but you have hardly been squeaky clean with regards to having a go.

When I mention TRUE supporters I mean that they would include anyone who doesn't care about the club but finds the time to slag it off

I am no different from anyone else that pays their £10 to get in.

No yes man

No spin

If you really knew me then you would know differently

And there was me thinking that this site had clamed down a bit and 'nearly' become a football forum again

You may find that the manager is having a go at this board too as I know he reads this one.

LOL thats it slate the forum for a reaction to your post.

Mark at least i never made up a name, claimed to know everything about the club and stirred it on here!! And its me who  hasnt been squeeky clean ??

Care to comment on why you created a log in and caused rows on here? And only stopped when people in the WSU told you too?

Grow Up mark, talk football and be sensible and open minded when discussing other issues.

Russ has the right of reply on here. And to be fair all this true fan stuff is hilarious. So you can created a log in to stir but still be a true fan but other anons are not?

Lets get back to football mark before you look even more self rightous and ridiculous. Disagreeing with the Manager and saying he knows who true fans is is taking things to a new level for you. i would say from My opinion that Adrian would see all fans as equal and would just wish people would talk to him rather than ridicule and abuse his players on an unofficial web report.

Id rather people didnt go and talk to adie about who he want happy with. It will distract him and the players and is counter productive. As Adie says, he has had his rant, move on.

Mark all youve ever done is slag me off, this forum off and go on about true fans (and creat log ins to stir!!)

I welcome your football posts but feel myself reponding to your more spinny posts would be a waste of time.

I must learn to be a true fan. You would think after 29 years i would have learned by now.

Come on you Wings

Oh and in case you or your pals are in any doubt.

Gentlemen enough please.

Arguing who did this and who did that and who is a supporter and who isn't has taken the thread away from its purpose and that was to exercise my right of reply as moderator of this forum to Ade's comments on the official website. Had I realised that what is actually a serious matter for discussion would degenerate to this level I would have locked the thread at the outset but hindsight and all that.

Ade was entiltled to express his opinions, but then so are those who contribute to the WIE website. It's not that many years ago that it was a paper fanzine, which expressed similarly strong opinions (if memory serves). I stopped buying it as I felt that some of the criticism of Kevin Hales was unfair. I expressed my opinions they expressed theirs. I don't recall anyone taking quite as much umbrage then. I may not agree with some of the stuff which gets written and I find the fickle nature of Wellings fans annoying at times but I choose to read the WIE site as I find the reports informative and amusing. Frankly the players shouldn't bother themselves with fanzines and if they do they should be big enough to take the criticism. Some of the postings on here may be over the top but do we really want to take the passion out of football? We all went into the Clevedon game with high expectations and they were shattered in no uncertain way. Some strong feelings were expressed but give me that anytime over the oh well never mind variety. Frankly whether people put their names to their comments is, to my mind, up to them.

Andrew

I will always remember what I was taught in a general studies class (what I suppose would be called a living skills or some such term these days) some 40 years ago and I have followed it ever since and that was the statement if you are not prepared to put your mark on it don't do or say it. It's just one of those odd things that stuck probably because the masters for that lesson tended to be the most eccentric and this one used the term mark rather than name.

Everyone's entitled to their say and mine to Ade is we love you but it's now time to return to perking up the team and refrain if you can from continually calling us a young team when we must have six or seven players who do not fit into that category!
