Your club must be very proud of some of your traveling fans havin a go at the braintree groundsman for the game not being on after he had been working on it since 8ish this morning .
Ok so our supporters should not have had a go at the groundsman, but its been going on for years, consideration is never given to the fans, heavy rain was forcast all day it should have been called off about midday, 12:45 inspection & then 1:15 would 30minutes really make that much difference ? And what about the fans fleeced at abondoned matches today? sometimes its better to call the game off early, at least everyone knows where they stand
forgive me if im wrong but is it not the decision of the referee to postpone games and not that of the groundsman maybe their anger was directed at the wrong person. i was present at the turnstiles when the confrontation took place and felt sorry for the guy standing there soaked to the skin and getting abuse over something he had no control over.
In fairness Braintree were upfront about the inspections and the risk the game was going to be called off. At the end of the day it was the refs decision. I wasted my train fare as well, but delayed setting off so I was able to turn back at Liverpool Street. In a way I wish the groundsman hadn't bothered trying to keep the pitch playable, as it would have saved me a couple of hours sitting on trains, but had he succeeded and we'd been top of the league tonight no one would have been moaning. It could have been worse - I remember Altrincham several years ago.
Ok Mr Anonymous, as i said our fans were wrong to have a go at your groundsman, i got a few miles past Dartford tunnel then turned round, but these pitch inspectons should be earlier, & weather forcasts listened to.fans from Welling had to leave before the final inspection im sure supporters of both clubs had wasted trips, & yes the referee was to blame.
Not sure you can blame the referree. I rang Braintree after the first inspection - at this point the pitch was playable but a lot would depend on the weather over the next hour. It continued to rain so match was called off at 1.15. I know the forecase was not good but I think he was giving the match every chance. If he had called it off at 12.00 and then the rain stopped and the pitch was playable then we'd all have a go at that as well. He can only call it as he sees it.
More important that we get an early decision next week. Don't want to be in Manchester when the words comes through!!

From what i can gather if there had of been an earlier inspection the game would have been on thats why it was not called off until 1oClock. It's a big call but the players safety surly has to come 1st.
