LEADING scorer Danny Kedwell has rocked Welling by handing in a transfer request.
The Wings striker, who has scored 20 goals this season, had previously insisted that he would have no problem remaining at Park View Road until the end of the campaign.
But Kedwell handed in a written request to Welling boss Adrian Pennock this week, presumably in the hope of encouraging further bids before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.
Pennock said: “I don’t understand what he is trying to achieve - he won’t be going anywhere until we get a decent fee.
“We haven’t fallen out but I’m disappointed with the way things have happened.
“I think Danny has been badly advised by his agent and people around him because a week ago Danny was saying he wanted to stay with us.”
Grays remain the only club to have made a firm offer for Kedwell, having had two bids rejected by the Wings. Welling are believed to require a transfer fee in the region of £25,000 to part with their prize asset.
25k? Good grief just put a price sticker on his shirt, I know thats only the paper saying that but i would rather keep him till the end of the season, WIN the league and let him go for nothing than sell him 25k. How does the Bosman thing work? Do we get nothing if he is out of contract? Hes probably worth 25k to US if he fires us to the conference in extra gate money/fa trophy money (beat tamworth and worcester is worth a chunk). PLUS we would barely sign a striker and cover their contract for a season for 25k!!!! So we lose a player better than this League potentially and sign one who may not be and are no better off financially!
I know!! get Keds' Agent to buy his contract out for 50k! If hes that certain Keds is better off away from Welling.
Delicate situation but i hope the Hobbins and Adie can sit down properly and crack out whats best for the Wings long term. We dont want someone that doesnt want to be with us and by handing in a written request days after saying hes happy if he stays for the season, he clearly doesnt want to play for Welling United anymore. 2 points of being top, hes leading the golden boot and he wants out.
I too am "dissapointed".
What do we think? 25k? 50k? keep him? its a toughy, cut our losses for the harmony of the team and let him go to the first club that bids 25k and a sell on?

£25,000 for Keds is in my view a bargain basement price and makes me wonder if we should rename the January transfer window the January Sales!!!!
Striker Age 22/23 years 21+ goals 2004/5 Kent League 23 goals in 40 matches 2005/6 Conference South 20 goals in 29 matches so far 2006/7 Conference South Asking price £25,000
Looking at non league transfer fees Is George Boyd worth £235K more than Keds? Is Aaron Mclean worth £125K more than Keds? Personally I think Boyd may well be but I'm not so sure about Mclean but that is irrelevant, any transfer fee is what somebody is prepared to pay and so far the asking price hasn't been met. You have to ask why and all I can think of is that Keds may be paying the price for the difficult to manage reputation which he earned in his pre Welling days.
With regard to any right to payment even if Keds is out of contract my understanding is that since he is under 24 we could get a fee provided that we had offered him re-engagement at least a week before the end of the season. The FA Handbook tackles it from the other direction and says "There shall be no right to a compensation or transfer fee by the previous Club of a Player who has attained the age of 24 years on or before 30th June and whose contract with that Club has expired." However there are lots of clauses about transfers hence I say my understanding.
I think there will be many who are disappointed with Keds transfer request, particularly since from Ade's comments it appears to be agent led.

Apart from Grays have any other clubs shown interest in Keds during the transfer window? I presume if he wants league football we can only be talking about league 2. Maybe the llikes of Brentford in league 1 destined for league 2 will be interested in him. Will they want to invest a hugh amount of money in someone who is untried at Conference National level let alone league level, I dont know! I`d like to see Welling get £75,000 maybe £100,000 for him but I dont think that will happen. Unless a league club gets desperate to sign a goalscorer just before the window closes that is. We are all dissappointed with this stupid transfer request but as it has been said before he seems to have received bad advice from a bad agent.
Not happy about it, the timing more so than the action.
However, I shall view it the way Reading view Sidwell. If he keeps playing, putting in 100% and getting goals and it should allow us to achieve what we want and him to achieve what he wants. Judge him on that and if that ceases to be the case then get a downer on him.
Sticking in a transfer request is hardly going to reduce any reputation he may have had for being difficult to handle I'd have thought though.
(Also think he might still be here this time next week as I think he'd quite fancy another go at Suzanne - which you'll understand if you were at Tamworth)
I don't think there will be any downer on Keds as the bottom line is that we all believe that he deserves the opportunity to play at a higher level.
Equally I don't think Keds will give other than 100% during the transfer window. If he is still at PVR when the transfer window closes we may see the impact as we did at the start of the season following the Brentford affair. IF it were to happen I'm sure Ade and his team mates will not allow it to last, not to mention the fact that football is in his blood which of itself will not let it last.

Well Said, i doubt if anyone would begrudge keds a move to a league team, he has been sensational for us and a great servant, however, the club is on a crest of a wave, looking a good bet to go up as champions or via the play offs and no one is standing in his way of a move and indeed Adie would get him a good one.
All he has done is potentially sour the dressing room and morale of players and fans AND possibly raked up all the old "hard to handle as a player" stuff.
I too hope he gets out there scores bucket loads and if we win the league and he gets his move then fantastic.
Nothing against Keds other than his action probably led by some money mad agent who wants his £s and screw everyone else. Maybe keds will say something in the press to alay fears that he wants away at all costs.
In the mean time Keds get out there on saturday and show everyone what you are made of.
If you want the move its in your hands to keep smashing the goals home.

18 January 2007 WELLING'S visit to Tamworth in the FA Trophy on Tuesday certainly proved memorable for the hardy band of Wings fans who made the long trek north, writes Paul Green.
The match was evenly posed at 0-0 as half-time approached when a power cut struck leaving the stadium in darkness.
An SOS call went out to find an electrician, but the closest available one was in Rugby and when a deadline of 9.40pm wasn't met, the match was finally abandoned.
The two sides will now have to do it all again next Tuesday and manager Adrian Pennock admitted he was feeling frustrated with the whole fiasco.
He said: "It is all becoming a bit of a farce. We had to wait long enough to get this game on because the Tamworth/Altrincham match kept on being postponed and now this happens.
"We haven't had a game since New Year's Day. It's annoying because we were on a good run and the lads are just chomping at the bit to get out there and play."
That lethargy was obvious in the opening 10 minutes as Tamworth bossed proceedings, but Welling regained their composure and slowly wrestled control of the game before the lights went out.
"It was like the Alamo out there to begin with and Paul Hyde had to make some crucial saves," revealed Pennock.
"We changed our formation quickly and were definitely on top towards the end of it, but there is nothing anyone could have done about the power cut."
Pennock was particularly impressed by the display of Danny Kedwell after the striker stunned the Wings earlier in the week by handing in a transfer request.
"He has just had seven stitches removed from his leg and I thought he was tremendous. I was very disappointed when he said he wanted to leave, but we have since had a chat about it and now I understand his reasons.
"Danny has a young family and wants to support them as best he can by playing full-time football. He made it absolutely clear to me his request was nothing whatsoever against Welling United."
The only concrete bid so far is a £10,000 offer from Grays - a sum Pennock described as "laughable".
He added: "There is no way he is going for that - we could earn £10,000 just by winning a few games in the Trophy.
"The deal has to be right for Danny but it also has to be right for Welling. To me Keds is a poor man's Wayne Rooney and can go on to great things in the game.
"We have a figure in our minds we are prepared to sell him for and any deal will definitely include sell-on clauses.
Yes sorry for that Bruno - I didn't source it because it had just come through on my Google alert and I wanted to put it on here ASAP.
Anyway it certainly looks as if Adie has had a change of heart since the request went in and is prepared to let Danny go with his blessing now provided we can get the best deal for him. I don't begrudge Danny his move either because he is clearly ambitious and who can blame him? But I would be a bit disappointed if he only ends up at a Conference club and not a Football League one because that seems a no-brainer to me.
Not a problem mate, been guilty of it myself on several occasions.
Looking back over the Keds situation I think Ade and almost exclusively those who have posted have expressed no more than disappointment at the fact that Keds felt it necessary to put the request in. Even without the clear the air meeting which the article indicates took place whenever Keds does finally move on I'm sure it would always have been with Ade's blessing and carry a raft of best wishes from the fans he has given so much pleasure to since coming to PVR.
